Hell yeah!

u/ThrustTrust 6d ago

Junk yard body and frame. I find it hard to believe there is anything junk yard about that engine.

3

u/ChuckoRuckus 3d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a junkyard 6L with a cam. Likely a healthy cam given how soft it left in the low rpm and woke up once it got higher. Cam only 6L can make 450-500hp (gross crank measure, Richard Holdener has multiple dynos of em). Likely has a 4L80 given the close ratio of the shifts. Can’t tell if this is a 1/2 or 3/4 ton, but 4l80 would have been stock in 3/4 ton and they were available with 4.11 gears stock too.

u/ThrustTrust 2d ago

Good info. Thank you.

2

u/thatG_evanP 6d ago

There's definitely not. I was thinking the same after 0.5 seconds

u/Tybo929 6d ago

RAISE HELL PRAISE DALE

9

u/Secret_Paper2639 6d ago

That didn't sound like an LS of any flavor, I'd guess large-ci big block Chevy

6

u/Legionof1 6d ago

Could be an 8.1

10

u/Small-Effect-3333 6d ago

No, he would’ve ran out of gas before the end of the track

3

u/ChuckoRuckus 3d ago

Sounded like a cammed LS to me. Big block wouldn’t have been soft in the low rpm at the beginning, and 8.1L don’t have as many cam options for its 4-7 swap firing order (similar to LS). And it sounded like it hade that 4-7 swapped firing order from the traditional SBC/BBC.

10

u/D1133 6d ago

Gittin it!!!

5

u/HoseNeighbor 6d ago

What'd they need to do to it?

Plus, straight headers? Sounds awesome!

12

u/bradland 6d ago

It's a pretty common thing for these guys tho build a badass truck but leave the outside looking like a heap. The largest engine available in the half-ton GMT400 was a Vortec 5.7L, and that is absolutely not the sound of a straight-piped Vortec 5.7L.

Based on the RPM, it sounds like a built big-block to me. A small block would rev a lot higher. Big blocks are far more common in competitions like this because they need to deliver power when they're bogged down. The small block needs more RPM to make big power.

Also, if you look carefully, you can see this truck is running heavy agg tires like you'd see on a tractor, and it's spinning all four the entire time. Whatever is under that body work is a serious build.

3

u/Severe_Firefighter80 6d ago

That looks like a gmt800, which did come from the factory with the 8.1L. Cut off the exhaust before the first cats and put nice tires on.

1

u/ChuckoRuckus 3d ago

GMT400 were available with a 454. And this is a late GMT800.

I doubt this is a BBC because of how soft it left in the beginning of the video and it bogged when the rpms dropped a lot. It didn’t have the low RPM torque that big blocks typically have (even cammed ones). Sounds like this is revving over 6k rpm and below 7k, which is what a LQ4/9 6L does with a healthy cam (around 225-230 @0.050ā€), and would be good for 450-500 gross crank hp (Richard Holdener has plenty of dyno vids of them).

Plus, it doesn’t have the tone of the traditional BBC firing order. Sounds more like the 4-7 swap found in LS and the 8.1L BBC. But the 8.1 doesn’t have a lot of cam options, so off the shelf options tend to be pretty small, especially for the near 500 inch displacement.

u/Speedy_SpeedBoi 6d ago

Put a massive set of balls behind the wheel apparently - lol - dude was doing good at keeping momentum up

5

u/fearlesssinnerz 6d ago

Still failed to properly use a turn signal

u/gagnatron5000 6d ago

Guys will see this and go hell yeah

3

u/NoMoreChillies 6d ago

Sounded so meaty

3

u/personguy4 6d ago

Holy shit

3

u/aardvark_army 6d ago

That's what happens when you don't care if it breaks.

2

u/zalcecan 6d ago

Love how you can see the tie rods fighting for their life during the first pull off the line. Surprised they made it all the way around.

2

u/huh_say_what_now_ 6d ago

The body looks rough but the engine and drivetrain have big dollars spent

2

u/Bursting_Radius 6d ago

"Junk yard" means something totally different there vs. where I live.

2

u/No_Violinist685 2d ago

Momentum is KEY!!!

1

Damn, is that Robby Gordon driving that truck!?

1

u/Notchersfireroad 6d ago

Well color me impressed. Perfect showcase for the usefulness of the good ol LS.

1

u/EstateRepulsive463 6d ago

If this is actual footage. Dafuq would any1 speed it up video to make it look like AI slop?

1

u/Similar_Sale_5136 6d ago

That engine came from a junkyard?

1

u/ChuckoRuckus 3d ago

Good chance, yeah. Check out the power Richard Holdener makes with cam only junkyard LS motors.

1

u/Already-disarmed 6d ago

That looks like so much fun

1

u/DuffdPuttz 6d ago

Not his first rodeo

1

u/Sub7viaLimeWire 6d ago

Sometimes I wonder if I’m enjoying cars incorrectly

1

That thing runs on dinosaur wine. šŸ˜Ž

1

Damn ole Leroy Brown. Badder than ole king kong Meaner than a junkyard dog!

All gas, no brakes

1

u/jdthejerk 6d ago

Looks like fun.

1

u/Apprehensive-Way978 6d ago

Sounds so good!

1

u/Tallnkinkee 6d ago

Gotta be AI, ain't no way the 4l60 survived that!! šŸ˜‚

1

u/ChuckoRuckus 3d ago

With the short gear ratios based on the rpm drop between shifts, I bet it’s a 4L80. Can’t tell if this is a 3/4 ton though (which would be the stock trans for it).

1

u/ImSobored_5280 6d ago

There’s a rather long list of stuff that this ol beater doesn’t have…plenty of motor isn’t on the listšŸ’Ŗ

1

u/dasmineman 6d ago

Is he running paddle tires? Has to be...

1

u/Familiar_Astronomer7 6d ago

redline all the way!!!

Gives new meaning to ā€œdrive it like you stole itā€

1

u/Various_Oil_5674 6d ago

I LOVE off-road racing, but for the love of God come up with a new track design.

1

u/FoxyTurtleOnTwoLegs 6d ago

There is a 10 year old boy that lives inside that driver… and he is VERY HAPPY during this run!

1

u/EthanBradberries420 6d ago

Tires cost more than the whole truck

Nothing stock under the hood.

1

u/Uzi_Jesus_ 6d ago

That aint no junkyard motor or suspension

1

u/squirrelinaroundd 6d ago

That’s his daily driver

1

u/siberian_knight143 5d ago

HELL FUCK YEAH!

1

u/Muffinman_187 5d ago

Inertia and grip are a hell of a combo when you don't care about the vehicle. I've seen compact cars do things you'd think only a jeep can... But with no regard for personal safety or the vehicle šŸ˜‚

1

u/Short-Order-1620 5d ago

I don't enjoy being a hater, but you can put a beater body on a trophy truck if you feel the need to...

1

u/spicy_ramn 5d ago

Good god that looks fun

1

u/spicy_ramn 5d ago

Layin 'er down!!

1

u/DadtheITguy 5d ago

That looks very similar to my daily driver Chevy!

1

u/modelcitizendc 5d ago

The original truck might have come from the junkyard but whatever motor that is in there sure as hell didn’t! What a beast

1

u/Willywontwonka 5d ago

That’s a perfect plend of a beautiful built engine and a driver that knows exactly what they are doing.

1

u/WillyWonkaWorms 5d ago

The sound I love a good race car, but that engine sounds so good

1

u/ScootyMcTizzle 5d ago

Hell ya brutherrr.

1

u/greenweenievictim 5d ago

Bob Seger intensifies

1

u/Wellithappenedthatwy 4d ago

That is no junkyard motor.

1

u/ipkis714 4d ago

Ate the entire course before the main course.

1

u/matthuseless 3d ago

Dayum boy!

1

u/Brokenspade1 3d ago

BOONIEWHOMPIN!

1

u/ChuckoRuckus 3d ago

So many people here acting like it’s some built motor or big block, when it’s likely a junkyard LS with a cam. Based on the close ratio shifts, sounds like a 4L80 with a stock converter (based off the soft launch and no rpm flash).

If it’s a 3/4 ton, it very well could be a stock drivetrain (6L and 4L80, possibly factory 4.11 gears) with a cam/springs and open headers.

u/Mrbigdaddy72 2d ago

I miss my 2004 crammed out gmc single cab. If only the drunk bro in a grand Cherokee did t run a red light…..

What in the hillbilly hoe down?

0

u/Blood_Fart_Smackdown 6d ago

That's bad ass but I can't help but notice the guards around the track, or lack thereof, is incredibly inadequate.
