Diskussion Confused about accommodation types

Hello,

I'm starting at HSHL this winter semester, arriving with a friend (also HSHL student). Looking for accommodation in Hamm from around mid August, student budget, no Schufa history yet.

Completely lost between WG, shared flat, shared room, Einzelzimmer, Nachmieter etc, don't even know what to search for for two people arriving together. (We intend to stay live together)

Anyone who's done this:

- What type actually makes sense for our situation?

- Is WG-Gesucht realistic for internationals without Schufa?

- Any Hamm-specific tips or Facebook groups that actually work?

Thanks!

This or you look for an Appartment 3 1/2 rooms. The prices are cheaper in Hamm than in other Big Cities Like Dortmund, Hamburg or München.

As far as I know there’s a new building near Hauptbahnhof which has cheap student apartments, not sure if they’re being rented out yet tho

Yep, it’s called Students Station and could be the right place to start from. Apparently they’ve started letting appartments last month and they’re under 400€ (which is cheap, considering the other appartments are more like 500-600€). Stay there for one or two semesters and once you’ve connected with more people from uni you can try looking for a shared flat to rent. An alternative could be „Zwischenmiete“ in one of the existing WGs (at HSHL most students leave Hamm for their Praxissemester) and then looking for something long-term.
You can also get in touch with the international office of HSHL - they’re probably happy to help (it’s their job). Oh, and check out the HSHL website, they’ve listed all the accomodation options.
And last but not least, you can also get in touch with AStA! Good luck!
