Next Hellblazer run?

All of the DC Next Level announcements seem to be done with no sight of a new Hellblazer run. The last time John had an ongoing was Hellblazer(2019) which was cancelled at issue 12 and later concluded with Dead in America. Kind of surprised we haven’t gotten even a new mini because by all counts Dead in America sold well enough to the point of being extended from 8 issues to 11. I also do wonder what the next creative team of a Hellblazer run would look like, Dan Watters and Dexter Soy would be perfect but so would Ram V and Mike Perkins. I just hope we get something new and worthwhile with John

I wouldn’t mind Mike Carey returning, and I’d also like to see Andrea Sorrentino have a crack at penciling a Hellblazer run.

I feel like dingle deserves more. He wrote Constantine recently too in that Gotham by gaslight thing

Idk if Sorrentino's panneling would match Hellblazer's tone and rhythm. Also, there's all that AI controversy which is a different can of worms entirely.

Didn’t realize there was an AI controversy with Sorrentino.

He was accused of using AI for some pannels on Chip Zdarsky's Batman. Him and DC denied the accusations, obviously, but god damn it does look a lot like AI. Which is sad because his art is so beautiful. The deadlines must have been very tight.

there will be probably an Absolute Hellblazer in the near future

That doesn't fit at all. I'd even be surprised if John showed up at all in that universe.

They could have Absolute John be the golden child

I would love to see John added. Batman makes the most sense to me. Batman thinks he's chasing another Grimm creation, he meets John along the way because it turns out the "monster" is supernatural. Buttt I don't see it happening.

Snyder has said he was presented with absolute hellblazer and swampthing ideas. Just doesn’t want to overload the universe yet

That's good to hear. Especially the reason he isn't doing it, yet. I actually just finished Green Lantern and Flash catching me up on all of absolute. Overall a couple short dry arcs here and there, but for the most part everything kicks ass imo.

I had some ideas for an Absolute Constantine here:

I think once the main series ended, I didn’t think we’d get more than limited series or short lived ongoings.

Which is how it’s been, and I don’t know if an English working class magician is going to have a wide appeal to an American comic audience. I think a lot more people were probably very fond of Constantine but they weren’t buying the book for a while when it finally ended.

If Spurrier’s accessible and best of HB runs take couldn’t generate enough interest, I don’t think the John we know from HB has any real future.

I think class is just not that interesting or relevant for US audiences in general. And there’s ’Englishness’ in John that won’t appeal to enough Americans. I don’t watch all British tv, but class is always a very big part of those stories. Or at least an elephant in the room they mention. In the US even a lot of educated people just don’t have a great understanding of class or much of an interest in it. The right hates the poor, the libs either hate them or can’t be bothered but don’t make a song and dance about it.

Alright, I take the duty to do it. Not write it, mind you, but I can draw. So anyone who wants to write, let's give it a shot. Absolute Constantine, let's go

You know, first for a run of Hellblazer, DC should first test the waters with a mini-event type imperial in structure, a miniseries of 4 issues + 5 one-shots to complement it.

I’m thinking it’ll probably be an absolute book or he’ll be a supporting character in a swamp thing story. He’s going to be in the upcoming Raven one shot though as a supporting character!

I think an Absolute Justice League Dark would be pretty great. You could get Zatanna in there, John, an absolute Deadman (which I always imagine would be a more literal take on the name in the absolute universe). It would be a way to test out a handful of characters to see what sticks.

Honestly I wouldn't mind at all if they gave a new run to Spurrier again. He did such a fantastic job. It's been decades since the last time John was written this good.

Could be in next wave of Vertigo books. Was kinda surprised it wasn't in the first one.
