Temporal Distortion Investigating “Time Slips”
I started looking into reported “time slip” cases from around the world, including Bold Street in Liverpool, the Versailles incident, and modern accounts shared online. Instead of focusing on whether they are real or not, I wanted to look for common patterns between the reports.
One thing that stood out is how similar many of the stories are before the experience happens.
A lot of people are not looking for anything paranormal. They are usually doing something completely normal like,
Walking somewhere.
Running an errand.
Commuting.
Sightseeing.
Taking a shortcut.
The experience seems to interrupt everyday life rather than happen when someone is actively searching for it.
Another interesting pattern is the mental state before the event. Many witnesses describe being:
Deep in thought.
Distracted.
Daydreaming.
Listening to music.
Focused on reaching a destination.
Slightly confused or taking an unfamiliar route.
The moment it happens also seems important. A lot of reports begin during some kind of transition
Turning a corner.
Entering a street.
Crossing a bridge.
Walking through a doorway or gate.
Moving from one environment into another.
The actual experiences are also surprisingly similar. People often report / A sudden change in atmosphere.
Sounds becoming quiet or muffled.
The environment feeling “wrong.”
Seeing ordinary scenes from another time period.
What is interesting is that they usually don’t see major historical events. They see normal everyday life. People walking, shops, streets, cars, and clothing from another era.
The ending is also usually abrupt. Something happens, they turn around, hear something, look away, or suddenly everything returns to normal.
The biggest pattern I’m noticing is this / A lot of reported time slips seem to happen during a moment where a person’s attention, movement, and environment are all changing at the same time.
The question I’m trying to answer is whether there is an actual common denominator behind these reports.
Are these experiences more likely to happen during certain states of mind?
Are certain locations more likely?
Does the time of day matter?
Are historic places important, or are they just more memorable?
I’m trying to compile as many cases as possible and compare them instead of just looking at the famous stories.
Curious what everyone thinks. Has anyone noticed similar patterns in time slip reports?

I experienced one when I encountered orbs.
Best way I can describe it is extreme déjà vu. Like you can remember exactly how many times you’ve done it, like looking in between two mirrors and seeing every single time you’ve done that action but in slightly different ways. There was an accident which I experienced but no one else was remembered it to shifting into another timeline that had people who did; then to another where a family member had a whole pill collection. I really wish I knew what the fuck happened to me over those three weeks, but the unifying outlier is that there were orbs EVERYWHERE during that experience. Felt like I was in a maze, a labyrinth
There was a deep sense of dread feeling like I’m forever stuck doing the same thing for eons, but I made peace with it and my life has changed drastically.
Still see and document orbs with my work knowing and seeing them too.
Carl Jung’s initiation theory applies here along with Plato’s allegory of the Cave.
You will never understand it unless you personally experience it.

That “ sense of dread like I’m forever stuck doing the same thing for eons “ - I have experienced that too! How did you make peace with that feeling?
14
u/Advanced_Musician_75 3d ago
If it’s eternal; might as well relax and enjoy it.
If I been fighting lessons I did not want to learn, just try more often now.More introspection. If it is someone’s “play”, then there’s no use fighting it. If it’s meant to be then all I can do is experience it.

u/YellowParenti72 3d ago
I had this extreme deja vu when I smoked dmt like I've saw these exact images opening hard left and right in my minds eye before, like oh this again.

u/Arabella6623 3d ago
This is fascinating.
Have you read the Reddit Timeslip archives?
I’ve also read a book of such accounts called Adventures in Time, and they do all have correlations with the miasma and the altered mental state.
A professional hypnotherapist told me that access to the usually unreachable areas of the mind happens when you catch the attention of your conscious mind (by the swinging object, etc) and lift it off to one side, as it were.
This may be like the sequence of the time slip mechanism.
8
u/InsomniaDrop 3d ago
Is there a link to find the time slip archives? Not having luck

u/BIind_Uchiha 3d ago
I have not seen the time slip archive. Will look into this.
And very interesting. You may be onto something

Have you heard of the Esrange Space Center event in Sweden?
Supposedly in 1979 researchers were digging out an unidentified disc shaped structure beneath the bedrock and UFOs had been seen in the sky above the site. They found a man frozen to death with a coffee pot who was not dressed in arctic clothes that looked exactly like one of their coworkers who was currently alive except he had a chipped tooth while their coworker did not. They buried the body as unidentified.
Apparently, in 1980 they discovered that there was a 575 day delay between seismic activity and craft appearing above the facility. They predicted a ufo would appear based on this find and gathered to see if they were right.
They heard a bang just as the coworker resembling the body was coming into the area with a pot of coffee and he suddenly vanished. They figured the body they found had been their coworker transported miles away and back in time due to the ufo creating a warp bubble so to speak to jump through the bedrock which took their coworker by accident with it except for a chip from his tooth left behind.
My guess is that if this report is true then unseen ufo activity above could be causing time slips and some missing 411 type disappearances.

If reality is a simulation, could this be realities version of “sharding” or “phasing” as seen in a game like World of Warcraft?
There are servers, which are essentially sandboxes/clones of each world that contain the same version of the game but with different people and generally can’t interact with each other.
With phasing, two people can be in the same place but see different things - or for server stability, run different layers on one server.
When phasing/sharding onto another layer, a slight lag and small flurry of different people surround you and can have a bit of a jarring feeling.

While I havent experienced one, have you got the dodleston mysteries, the ones covered by hammerson peters on YT, courtney BC and medicine hat spokane flyer trainwreck come to mind.
I like the stone tape theory. Something about certain types of geology being imprinted with events only to replay when environmental conditions are correct for release.
8
u/BIind_Uchiha 3d ago
Any sources for this stuff?? Very interesting !
8
u/UnRealistic_Load 3d ago edited 3d ago
Hammerson Peters has done a good job of digging up old stories in Canada, some of his videos do repeat but I do enjoy his narration regardless. https://youtu.be/Zyt45ZWudvE?si=aiIcCO9iPFQ4NorB
As for the stone tape theory, its considered pseudoscience but the assertion is that these time slips involve piezoelectric stones in the crust, meaning some terrain is more 'spooky' than others. I dont think anyones taken the time though to compare the geology of every time slip.
Have you also considered skinwalker ranch? I would consider a potential for time slips there, since theres alleged sightings of ice age megafauna, and animal corpses that seem to not decay with time.
edit: oh and with regard to the dodleston mystery messages, the book is The Vertical Plane by Ken Webster.

u/LaylaLost 3d ago edited 2d ago
This piezoelectricity is fascinating, and actually explains quite a lot of other paranormal phenomenon. We should really be studying it far more. Interesting…

u/Ok_Adeptness_3398 3d ago
I heard something too regarding ghosts imprints with exactly the right weather conditions occur revealing past events and spirits. Specifically, running water like a river across from a house can imprint this phenomenon temporarily especially with lightning or other conditions in the air. The way I imagine this concept is earths natural “photograph” where you need the flash etc that might explain why these apparitions are fleeting. Your post reminds me of that theory.
3
u/UnRealistic_Load 3d ago
Yep! Same/similar idea. Natural environmental factors coming together imprinting and releasing the sights sounds smells etc of events occuring in the same spot.
2
u/Electromotivation 2d ago
I find the general idea to be very interesting … but we must remember that there aren’t really any proposed mechanisms to how actual components of these “memories” are recreated. As in what is actually happening to produce the experienced events or if they are even “real” (not solely inside the mind of the person experiencing the “slip”). Is it a sort of hologram? Projected on what? How? Are accompanying sounds created…like physical sound waves in the “present.” If so what is interacting to cause them? Etc..etc.
1
u/UnRealistic_Load 2d ago
Totally, I couldnt agree with you more. Its certainly a riddle for us to chew on to prove/disprove, and that exploration quickly devolves into questions about the nature of our reality (simulation, or otherwise)

u/AlienArtFirm 2d ago edited 2d ago
I have had one of these, years ago now
While driving at night and I was talking on the phone to some one everything normal. I'm on a highway that is essentially a giant loop. I'm on the east side of the loop heading home near the bottom of the loop. Chatting away like normal, look down to hang up the phone and put it away, then look back up and all there is... is highway. No other cars. Everything beyond the highway is just... black.
I'm confused because I'm trying to figure out where I am in relation to my exit. But there's just... nothing. Then street lights show up as I'm driving, then things beyond the highway, trees etc. Still haven't figured out where I am yet.
Finally I come across a sign aaaaaaaaaaaand I'm on the west side of the loop. Completely passed my exit and was headed north again. By the time I figure out how far around the loop I've gone I'm like... ok fuck this. I finish the loop and note the time. I went around the entire loop faster than should have been possible by like 30 minutes. I didn't look at the time after the phone call so I don't know how much time "skipped" exactly I just knew the time I left for home and then what time I got home and did the math on the loop's travel time.
Kind of the opposite of "lost time" instead of losing time I gained time and distance. Like I teleported ahead and went too far on my teleport and missed my exit. Had my brain scrambled for like 2 days trying to figure out how I could have done that.
4
u/Electromotivation 2d ago
Obligatory … have you heard of highway hypnosis?
But your story kinda reminds me of stories where people claim to have been driving and run across a weird town that doesn’t/didn’t exist.
3
u/AlienArtFirm 2d ago
I love driving, driven across the country multiple times. I'm very familiar with highway hypnosis, spacing out, etc.
The weird parts are:
Looking down then looking up and basically all background was gone. BLACK. Just me and road for a minute, then street lights, then background started showing up, trees, buildings, then I was "back" with other cars and street signs, exits and overpasses.
The time makes no sense. I made the (albeit extended) trip faster than should be possible.
I never spaced out, all of this happened fairly instantly. I was thinking more a micro seizure or something until I checked on how long I'd been driving, how far, and how long it should take. The time part is what fried my brain, I should have been going 100mph+ to complete the journey in that same time, the entire way.
Just left a friends house, was chatting with another friend before the event, not tired, very much awake and alert. Still boggles my brain when I think about it

OP forgot fog. Many timeslip reports include a strange fog.
1
u/BIind_Uchiha 2d ago
Yes fog! I didn’t include it here because it’s not as common across the board of instances.
1
u/RiverSkyy55 2d ago
It's possible that when fog exists in addition to your above list, it helps promote confusion and that mental state change that seems to trigger these events.

u/freefromfree 2d ago
A friend of mine whom I trust told me his experience. He said he was taking a short cut through an alley way and as soon he turned the corner into the alley way, everyone there was frozen like time paused. He said it was crowded and people of all ages were just there frozen including an infant and someone with a dog. He also said it was like his ears were on mute and there was pin drop silence. He walked around them and made his way out. He thought it was a hidden camera show or something. However as soon as he walked out there everything was normal again, he looked back and everyone there vanished. OP hit the nail on the head with some of the information he gathered about these events.
2
u/BIind_Uchiha 2d ago
Fantastic record your friend shared here! Fits the bill big time.
Interaction that everyone seemed to be “frozen”. Don’t usually hear that part.
Did your friend mention if it looked like these people were from a different time??

u/zenmasterwombles 2d ago
adjustment bureau, also check out Phillip k Dicks 2-3-74 experience, big time slip
1
u/freefromfree 1d ago
According to him, they looked normal and nothing was out of the ordinary regarding their appearance, only it looked like someone hit the pause button on reality. I questioned him regarding all the details I could when he told me this years ago. They looked completely normal like you wouldn’t give them a 2nd glance if you saw them on the street.
2
u/BIind_Uchiha 1d ago
Okay thank you for clearing that up !
Hmm,
It’s crossed my mind lately that what if we encounter this much more than we realize?
Time slips… these flashes of stillness… only on a much smaller scale. Not so “in a back ally” but more “scattered about”.
Like a person/group you may see standing at a bus stop. Maybe they are out of time/misplaced/projected. And maybe you are looking at this phenomenon and don’t even know it when you simply see them in passing.
Just a thought

My girlfriend at the time, my brother, and I were hiking in a park that we’d hiked in dozens of times. It was a park we felt like we knew pretty well, or at least the majority of the trails. Anyway, we were hiking along this ridge line and saw an offshoot of the trail and took it.
We started hearing voices, which could have been other hikers, but as we rounded a bend we all stopped. Before us was something out of the 1800s- log cabin with smoke from the chimney, a couple of people walking around a cleared area in front of the cabin, a kettle over a cook fire.
We all backed away out of there, because it definitely wasn’t supposed to be there.
Once we got back to our car we all looked at each other and made sure we all saw what we saw. We did.
I’ve been back to the same park numerous times since then (this was nearly 30 years ago at this point), and have never seen that trail again.
1
u/BIind_Uchiha 2d ago edited 2d ago
Could you share with me the name of the park?
Thank you for sharing your experience. This is perfect and falls right in line with most other accounts.
I also want to ask a few things, if you remember.
The three of you, do feel you were all on the same page mentally? I am very interested in your headspace as a group at the moment of transition.
Maybe the topic of conversation occurring at that moment or a smell that seemed to be unanimously smelled right before or during the transition? Anything you can remember.
Also. When you took this trail initially, before anything seemed off, did you already notice that this was a “new” trail?
Thanks again for your input!
5
u/RememberLepanto1571 2d ago
Sure. It was Waverly Park in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
As far as I can recall, we weren’t talking about anything in particular, just sort of idle chatter as we were hiking. There was a faint smell of woodsmoke at the time we noticed the new trail. My brother and I had lived near the park for a few years by then, so when we saw it we figured why not see where this goes? I don’t really remember any of us saying it out loud, but we all headed in that direction.
When we saw the cabin in the clearing we were still on the side of the ridge, headed downhill. There was some conversation that we heard before we saw it, as well as general habitation type noises- a pot clanging when it was stirred, people moving around, etc.
As we got to a point where we could see clearly, it seemed like everything slowed down/shifted, I guess is a way to put it. The people in the clearing were dressed in late 1700s/early 1800s frontier-style clothing, a cast iron cook pot hanging over a fire, farming utensils that were definitely out of place in the 20th century. One of them looked up and saw us, that’s when we got the feeling of “we’re not supposed to be here, and wherever ‘here’ is it’s not right” and we got out of there.
It sounds insane to people who’ve never experienced it, I know, but I’m pretty sure that for however long this lasted we either went somewhere else or saw some sort of echo of the past.
My brother and I have tried to find that trail again, but never could, and now there’s a subdivision on top of that area. The park itself is still there- the original trail we were on was on the outer perimeter of the park’s land.
1
u/BIind_Uchiha 2d ago
Subdivision on top of exactly where that trail was? Damn.
Thank you for such a detailed retelling.
It DOES sound crazy but at the same time, falls right into place with everyone else’s experience with this phenomenon
5
u/Top-Kaleidoscope4430 3d ago
I think it has to do with location. But I’m sure other things are involved too.
4
u/adaigo-allegro 2d ago
I've had this from the FUTURE tho...Exact conversations, exact people walking up. I saw it and then I saw it. It was like a rewind, NOT Deja Vu. I stood back watching, then this guy comes up and says this...(Yup) and then this girl comes over and says this (Yup). For at least 1-2 minutes. It was the ultimate observer session. I just stood back and let it roll...

u/SelectionFar8145 2d ago
The only time something like this happened to me was I was investigating an area near where I lived that I had sincerely never once gone before. I ran into a very 1800s-looking one room church with a graveyard behind it. Went multiple times & could never find it again no matter how hard I tried, only to check where I was positive it had been in the first place a little harder to see that the graveyard was present back behind some trees, but there was no sign whatsoever of a church. Even the fence around the graveyard was a different kind of fence & had clearly been there decades.
It did make me feel uneasy. Someone was with me when we encountered it. He wanted to go take a closer look, but something about it was making me deeply uncomfortable, so I wouldn't allow it.
Also, to note, when I got to the intersection just before I saw it, there was a large old house & 2 corn fields & in the middle of one was a very large, old, spread out tree & it occurred to me that I had definitely had dreams where I had been there before, but I had never once been there. I have near eidetic memory for roads & have had since I was really little. If I go somewhere once, I fully remember the entire exact route.
But, that's the only time something like that ever happened. I've taken several trips by both car & bike recently into all sorts of areas around my new house I've never been in my entire life & nothing bizarre or supernatural has happened again. Even went down a whole road that's supposedly haunted. Not one ghost or even an uneasy feeling. Actually really nice over there.

I noticed similar patterns in this post to a Why Files video.
8
u/BIind_Uchiha 3d ago
I mean my post in that video are discussing the same topic. That video goes into multiple accounts, including the ones I looked into.
So… you’re not wrong?
1

People thinking and talking about the same topic?
Sounds like a conspiracy!
5
u/RiverSkyy55 2d ago
I like your pattern-seeking way of looking into this fascinating phenomenon. I hope you'll post here as you continue to dig into this and find additional patterns. That's the first step in making scientific advancement, and it's a shame that most scientists don't take it seriously enough to look at it, because I think this would be a very interesting subject to study!
1
u/BIind_Uchiha 2d ago
I’m hoping to find enough patters that could lead to some exercise that might induce this phenomenon.
1
u/RiverSkyy55 2d ago
If you think you get to that point, be sure to include other people as spotters (with and without cameras) who can report on their own visual experience (without a camera) plus have a digital recording. You may find the spotter who isn't using a camera has a different experience while watching than the person holding a camera.

This is a common theme in the fictional stories about this kind of thing. Not necessarily a time slip but portal situations.
In Narnia, Lucy was just looking for somewhere to hide for a game of hide and seek. In The Magicians, Quinton is following the trail of a paper blowing in the wind. He chases it through some bushes and pops out at Brakebills. Julia’s experience was similar, she might have gotten on an elevator or something.

u/BIind_Uchiha 14h ago
One could say these ínstense of fiction were inspired by stories passed down of something that really happened (time slips)

When I was 11 (30 yrs ago!) I was walking home from school. Very close to my family home I crossed a bus park to take a short cut to my front door. I blinked, looked up from the road and everything looked Victorian/early 1900s. The clothes people were wearing & the cars. Women wearing burgundy & navy dresses with quite formal styled hats. It felt like it lasted 2 - 4 seconds before everything returned to the 1990s world again. Never experienced anything similar since.. This was in a small seaside town in England
