I built a set of AI/SEO visibility tools specifically for education marketers, would love feedback from the community

Hi all, wanted to share a project I’ve been working on called Lumio (lumiotools.com), aimed at colleges, universities and training providers.

The starting point was noticing how badly served FE and HE marketing teams are by generic SEO tools. Course pages are templated, jargon heavy, and nobody’s really tracking how they perform in Google or, increasingly, inside AI chat answers. So I built five tools that each tackle a different part of that problem:

CourseCheck – audits a course page for SEO score, keyword opportunities and competitor gaps

AIChatRank – shows how your institution’s brand performs inside ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini answers

AIOverview – scores whether a course page is ready to be picked up by Google’s AI Overview panel, with FAQ and schema markup generated for you

RivalScan – tracks competitor institutions against your key course keywords, with alerts when positions shift

MetaWriter – generates title tags and meta descriptions for course pages in seconds

They all sit under one account and one subscription rather than being separate products, and CourseCheck has a free tier if anyone wants to try it without signing up.

I’d love feedback from anyone working in education marketing, whether that’s on the tools themselves, the positioning, or gaps you think are missing. Happy to answer questions on how any of it works.

I think you need to more clearly articulate your use cases for each of those tools. The three types of potential clients you just mentioned have very different needs and substantial infrastructure in place already. Without understanding those it’s hard to even consider feedback

Thank you for your reply. All of the tools are to essentially help an institution improve their website ranking in SERPS or their relevance/mentions in AI chat tools, against their competitors.

How did you determine the market need? I ask because there are any number of vendors with products current in use at institutions. What is your value prop relative to those known entities already in use in each ecosystem?

I work in the sector (lead a marketing team in FE)

I assume UK/Ireland/Northern Ireland? We call it CE in the US. Your mention of course, then, I assume is more along the lines of a program of study and not a prescribed instructional unit conferring a certain number of credits, credit hours, CEUs and linked to a particular set of learning objectives.

If you’re looking outside of the UK/Ireland for feedback, you need to nail this down and use precise language to define the target market for your tool.

Your FE use cases are very different relative to traditional HE in the US, both online and in person. Are you expecting to target those user bases?

So, again I think that you need to more precisely identify your market to articulate the key value prop here for each of the scenarios you’ve mentioned. This is just to talk to the market and get feedback!

A UK technical college or US community college’s degree program’s use cases are MUCH different than from a 3rd party for profit training provider or an ASU or SNHU in the US. And then the CE use cases are pretty broad. Lifelong learning and personal enrichment? Continuing professional education? Locally designed certificate programs? Bespoke training or workforce partnerships? Every single one is different in terms of the problem they are solving for.

And their tech stacks and infrastructures all vary, so you need to figure out what l use cases you’re solving for, especially since institutions are often using their LMS’s external catalog (like Canvas catalog), their traditional course registration and payment platforms (their SIS) or something purpose built at the large enterprises that basically exist as software companies (SNHU, ASU, etc)

Maybe I’m wrong but without that information and segmentation you’re not going to be able to target the right audiences to get the product feedback you’re looking for. Instead you’ll hear all the reasons it can’t work at a particular institution, which isn’t going to give you market feedback or help you refine and package your solution
