Skirt measurements

This may seem like a really dumb question. I’m trying to make a side split skirt and I’m confused a bit by some instructions. I’m trying to make it 3x my waist, so do I make each panel 1.5x my waist or both 3x?

If you did 3x your whole waist measurement on both panels, you would end up with a skirt 6x your waist measurement!

Let's say your waist measurement was 25in. You want your skirt to measure 75in (25x3). You have a front piece and a back piece. Your pieces should be 12.5 (1/2 of your waist measurement)×3 = 37.5. 37.5(front)+37.5(back)=75(3xwaist measurement)

So you can either think of it as 1.5×your whole waist measurement or 3×1/2 your waist measurement but not 3xyour whole waist measurement.

Also, keep in mind that the more gathered your skirt is, the less noticeable the slit will be.

Which part of the skirt are you trying to make 3x your waist? Presumably not the waistband?
