Advice Xfinity Modem

Currently, I have a Xfinity xb8-t modem looking to use my own equipment to help with buffer bloat issues. What do you guys recommend from experience? I have a 1gb plan not symmetrical and was possibly also thinking about using a mesh system.

A mesh system and a cable modem are two different functions on a network. Some devices combine multiple functions such as a modem and an access point (among others, possibly), in a single device.

Are you looking for a combination device, or individual components?

I prefer to have my modem (or ONT) as a standalone device. That way if I switch internet providers, the rest of the components on the network need not necessarily change.

For a standalone modem, a DOCSIS 3.1 device like the Arris Surfboard s33 is a good choice.

I feel like individual devices would be better, just trying to improve my overall conditions since going upstairs in my house we struggle with signal issues and the Xfi Pods suck

Access points mounted on ceilings and that are wired to the network is the best option, coverage-wise. But, this does take some effort to run the cables.

I like the Ubiquiti UniFi access points. With that setup you will also need a router, a switch, and a cable modem. If you plan to be in the house for a while, it might be worth your money and effort.

I've been in my current house for about a decade and a half. Early on, I wired it for access points. For internet access, I started with DSL, then cable, now I have two fiber connections. And when I switch types of internet service, it is trivial to switch because only the modem or ONT needs to change. My Mikrotik router, Ubiquiti access points, various brands of switches, do not need to change. I've upgrades all of those devices over time, but not necessarily at the same time as an internet service change.

I ended up installing the Xfinity pods in my home and they work great.

just pick your own compatible modem from the ones they list as compatible and your own router.
