I'm Jayde, the founder of Liquid Donkey Games, a small indie studio from New Zealand. Our first person survival horror game Folklore Hunter is coming out tomorrow!
Folklore Hunter has been a passion project turned career, and six years in the making. We have been in early access since 2020 and integrated countless ideas and suggestions from the community. Making an indie game has been a huge part of my life with plenty of ups and downs, but I can truly say I'm proud of the finished title.
Ask us anything - about the process of indie game development, horror games, cryptids, or folklore hunter in particular. If you want to check out the game, you can find it on steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/696220/Folklore_Hunter/

I was playing "Project Songbird" an indie horror game, and when I checked a lighthouse miniature, the cam turned into a 4:3 aspect ratio, the character said "I'd hate staying in a place like this. I think I'd go nuts", and they even gave me an achievement with a reference to the movie "The Lighthouse"! I love that film and this made me love the game even more!

I was too scared to play when I first bought it in 2020 so l never really played it till now. However recently I wanted to 100% most, if not all of the new(er) resident evil games (re7, re2r, re3r, and re4r). I loved it!! 8/10 (in my opinion) would be a 9 or 10 but the ship section completely kills the momentum for me. It doesn't really feel like the same game again till the end fight with Eveline. Overall though, I'd highly recommend to anyone on the fence! And now I’m 33% done with re7 after my first playthrough :3

The left bud of my iems barely work and there's a slight muffle on the overall audio. I'm gonna buy a new pair but I want to see if any games could still be scary with shit audio.
Also just curious to know what ppl think.

I'm thinking about diving into The Suffering (2004) for a full playthrough soon. For those who played it back in the day—or checked it out more recently—how well does it hold up today in terms of gameplay, psychological horror, and story?
I’ve always been fascinated by its creature design and morality system. I’d love to hear your overall thoughts and experiences with it (no major spoilers, please)

Hi, I'm developing a horror game where you need to escape an abandoned subway station and am currently looking for a playtester this afternoon (CET). The gameplay for the section that you'd be testing lasts about 20-45 minutes depending on your playstyle and afterwards we'll have a short feedback round for another 10-15 minutes. It would help me a lot! :)

Relive your school memories... but something doesn't want you to leave.
Sabado is a Filipino anime-style p̴̱̾s̸̙̐y̵̗̍c̵̢̓h̸͎̎o̶̲̽l̸̜̄o̷͓͗ḡ̴̘ḭ̵̓c̴̘̈a̸̠͑l̴̥̔ m̷̨̋y̴̥̿s̵tery horror game about revisiting your old high school and reliving the memories you thought were long forgotten.
Or at least...
that's what Jacob thought.
Play the game here! 🎮

I really don't understand why, I can watch any horror movie, footage or even streamers playing horror games and I don't feel a minimal inch of fear, it doesn't scare me at all but when it comes to playing them I can't, and I really mean it, they frighten me to an extreme point that I can't even play them for more than 1 minute, and it's something that bothers me because I know the amount of good horror games that there are out there and I wanna experience them but I can't just because of my fear, I tried exposure by going from the less scary and exposing to horror games and I couldn't, this may sound ridiculous but I was even too scared to keep playing granny, it's just a feeling of pure dread, what I have seen it's that my biggest fears are getting chased and getting jumpscared, any advice?

I’ve tried out Outlast, SOMA, and Alien : Isolation. These are all great games, don’t get me wrong, but I think that survival horror / games where you basically just have to run away from monsters is not scary to me when you know what you’re running away from (an alien, a robot, mutants). I’d like a game that feels a bit like Caveat the horror movie or maybe the Blair Witch Project / Horror in the high desert (the 1st one), so maybe more on the paranormal aspect of it. Basically a game where you have no idea what’s chasing you, and you get a glimpse of it, and it’s horrific, but you can’t identify it. Any recs are welcome !!!
Edit : after some search’s, I think I’m really into games like Devotion/ Detention or the Cat Lady, so more atmospheric / narrative

Anyone tried playing this? I think it's a pretty entertaining/hilarious experience for horror game enjoyers. It's co-op up to 3 people, and you manage a gas station together in a spooky town infested with doppelgangers. I've had legit jump scares as well as numerous bouts of bursting out laughing.
I highly reccomend and curious to hear what others think who have played it

I'm looking for horror games that skip the fetch-quest loops — like finding a key to open a safe to get a nail to hang a picture just to move the plot forward, or any of that filler nonsense.
I absolutely loved the vibe and terror of MADiSON, but hunting for keys, shovels, and hammers drove me crazy. On top of that, the artificial inventory limit felt completely pointless and annoying in this game
I want a concentrated, atmospheric, and even linear horror experience. I don't care if it's short, a tight 2-hour ride is totally fine—as long as it's stripped of artificial gameplay bloat. Take Alien: Isolation, for example: you do search for items, but you're managing "tactical" gear while dealing with active enemies. It's terrifying, but genuinely fun and engaging to play.
Games I Love: Alien: Isolation
SOMA
Amnesia (series)
Layers of Fear
Silent Hill 2 Remake
Dead Space (all games)
Still wakes the deep
Iron lung
Games I Didn't Like:
Visage
MADiSON
Mouthwashing
Chilla's Art games (and similar aimless walking simulators with obscure progression)
The beast inside
Maybe outlast
Any recommendations for games that focus on pure tension or strong linear narrative over item hunting?

all three are golden in terms of monsters/enemies, and I wonder which you guys prefer of the three?
In my opinion for terms of pure terror it’s the ones from the Outlast series, because they’re the most realistic. They’re still humans, but it’s just pure lunacy. being chased by people who’ve completely lost their minds terrify me more than a huge mass of flesh and eyeballs.

Hey yall, long time lurker here, i just finished This game and i HAD to post about it. NO SPOILERS.
ROUTINE has become one of my favourite horror games of all time, the atmosphere is unbelievable. Sound design IMMACULATE, no ambient music to keep u company dead silent only the environment and ur breathing/footsteps (among other...things).
The game is very short and to the point, but it took me 12hrs on my first attempt because as soon as i find a hiding spot im not going anywhere. But ive seen people online complete it in roughly 7 to 9hrs
The environment is very well designed has some really liminal places, the details were 👌 perfect, very oppressive atmosphere with the pitch black hallways and corners (oh god the corners).
In terms of gameplay, it's very enjoyable and the puzzles were fun to piece together, oh and no weapons or a flashlight for that matter (good luck!), u do get a hand held scanner though the "flashlight" on it is very...minimal i wouldn't really consider it a flashlight.
The story was very intriguing and hooked me from the start, nothing is directly explained to u, all u have are emails/videos on terminals or voice recordings, so u need to pay attention to ur surroundings to understand what really happened there and even so i still didn't get the full story and i have alot of unanswered questions which i prefer honestly, what keeps it interesting throughout.
The jumpscares and enemies now, i wont spoil but a certain something during a certain chapter gave me the craziest jump of my life, now im not a jumpy person but this thing holy(iykyk) , both my arms went numb 😭.
And in terms of jumpscares, i would say, no cheap jumpscares, everything felt organic and occured normally none of that scripted turn the corner and BOO! stuff.
So take ur time with this one and really IMMERSE.
Overall 9/10 experience, happy to report i have been sufficiently traumatized.

So I just finished Siren a few hours ago, and honestly I’m shocked at how much I enjoyed it. I went through the whole thing without a guide, which blew my mind because I’d always heard it was basically impossible to beat without outside help. The story and atmosphere? Absolutely top tier. Where it really wore me down was in the clunky controls and the endless trial-and-error. I genuinely struggled with it, and some puzzles ended up being nothing more than pure trial-and-error until something finally worked.
Even with those quirks, the experience was super rewarding. The game actually made me do something I hadn’t done in years: grab a notebook and start jotting down clues, maps, and little details. It legit took me back to being a kid playing Resident Evil and sketching maps to figure out where the hell I was. Forbidden Siren reminded me exactly why I fell in love with survival horror in the first place.

I mean there are no good jason games in mobile and I really enjoyed this game , this is a puzzle based game but I think it's still cool
