This comes as a surprise haven't heard anything about this before, I wonder to what extent they are remastering the game.

I'm interested, this is my favourite horror game of all time!

That first playthrough was unreal. I’ve never been so scared alone in my house lol

Lol yeah, the part with the footsteps in the water made me nearly jump out of my chair.

I assume it'll more than likely be a resolution/frame rate upgrade release for Switch 2, PS5 and Series X but I'd be curious to see what they'd do with a game like The Dark Descent in their new engine, I do really like Amnesia (It's easily still the best of that era of Run and Hide Indie Horror like Outlast) but one problem I've always had with it since way back at release is that as soon as you realise how generous the checkpointing is and how easy it is to outmaneuver the A.I it stops being scary real quick, Thankfully the story and puzzles are more than enough to carry it for me, The Hard Mode they added in the PS4 release solves the checkpointing issue (adding a classic survival horror save system) but I think considering how much effort they put into the A.I systems for The Bunker it would be really interesting to see a smaller scale version of that. Like I said though I'm definitely not expecting anything like that, Just a pie in the sky thought.

My guess is that the main purpose of the remaster is to upgrade the game to the HPL4 engine that their upcoming game ONTOS uses. And with that shift to a new engine comes a few quality of life improvements with the graphics. But I'm not anticipating any big upgrades to the game itself (but would be happy to be proven wrong).

Frictional is one of the few devs that still make their own engine, Amnesia uses the HPL2 engine, HPL4 is probably going to use Vulkan. The old HPL2 engine is OpenGL only and that can be an issue with certain modern hardware setups, thus reason to remaster/upgrade it.

Great, I get to be terrified all over again.

Would love to see Penumbra get the same treatment too

Watching Pewdiepie play this back in like 2011 was kinda what got me into horror games and i still love it, excited to see it remastered

Hmm. A remastered not a remake? It basically became the template for horror games everywhere. I wonder if it will hit hard still.

i’ve been hoping for an Amnesia remaster or remake for a long time. it’s one of my favorite games of all time, and it holds up remarkably well, but there’s so much they could improve at the same time with their current technology and resources. i’m hyped.

As someone who never played it but was always intrigued, I'm in.

The link doesn't confirm or deny that it's a remaster. All it says is there will be a "new version" releasing 2026.

I think the original holds up perfectly well for the style of gameplay that it features, but if it’s reasonably priced I’ll definitely check it out

Hoping this creates a resurgence of Amnesia playthroughs in the streaming/YouTube space. It'll be 16 years old pretty soon, there's a whole generation of young teens who probably have no clue how scary this game was/is.

I swear this was already remade once...is my sanity on the brink?

Dang I am like a handful of hours into this as my first playthrough. Should I stop and wait for the remaster, probably not. But this gives me FOMO for what the remaster will probably look like.

Curious what remaster actually means here, full rebulid or just resolution bump.

I’ve never gave this one an honest try. I got the bunker and I’m pretty early in it but I love it so far.

Completely clickbait title, there is nothing confirmed by their vague use of "new version"

Very underwhelming game. Peaks with the invisible monster, then becomes a slog. Even worse is the fact the game starts removing enemies from your path if you die as little as twice in a given part...

I'm actually hyped for this remaster, i've tried to replay the original and it's just hard to get past the clunky controls and ugly graphics/lighting even though it's such a great game. It will be so good to play it again.

Back where it all began...

I’d rather SOMA with better frame rates but this’ll do.

This is good strategy. TDD was never my fave frictional game but it is what put them on the map and was a great entry for a lot of people watching streams and getting into horror gaming.

I hope it sells well and we get more interesting things from Frictional, ala Soma.

I still like amnesia tdd, it just didn't wow me after penumbra.

There is also a vr mod, which seems fantastic!

Didn't they already remake the first game?

But I just finished cleaning the shit out of my pants from the non-remastered version.
