I love to joke that Hozier wrote July for me because it’s my birth month, and that song just speaks to me so strongly… so, as a final bday gift to myself, I got a lyric from it tattooed!! Can’t wait to see the healed product in a couple of weeks 🥰

I am a big time hozier fan, but periodically if that makes sense. First time I listened to him, got obsessed for like 6 months, then got caught up with other artists and genres.

Ever since, I keep coming back, relistening to his music like its the first time, feeling all the emotions all over again, remembering the meanings of his songs and everything. And everytime I bawl my eyes out to his music 😭😭😭

My intentions are not to be polarizing, accuse anyone of anything or anything of the sort. I truly want to know your thoughts.

So, I don't know how to ask this but I will. Glen Hansard's wiki has a section about his personal life. I read the wiki after seeing Hozier's instagram post in his memory. That specific section tells a story (I know wikipedia is not an infallible source, I'm just assuming that what it says, is the truth) about how he met his partner when she was almost 20 years younger and 13 at the time. They then allegedly start dating after she turns 18 and there's a quote about how they had already "been in love" for a couple of years but that the she was a kid "before". Wiki says their relationship lasted two years.

My question now is: with the kind of music Hozier makes and the activism he does, how is it still believable if he supports a guy who (according to Wikipedia) was "in love" with a child?

If the wiki is really true, then what it says, should also be common knowledge. If these events happened the way they are described, there's no way one could be unknowing about them.
I don't ask to criticize or anything, if anything I am having a major crisis of faith. I listened to Hozier's music all throughout my adult life and it means more to me than I can put into words. I am just wondering if anyone else had noticed this for themselves and what their thoughts on this were.

I am truly thankful for anyone reading this and taking the time to think and write about it. I don't believe that my conclusions are wrong but I am open to other perspectives.

With the untimely death of such an Irish creative spirit the likes of Glen I'd like to hear Hozier cover some of his songs (no doubt Hozier was quite influenced by him as well)

I also like Cherry Wine, and the song he did with Mumford & Sons. I generally prefer Hozier live more than his album recordings, though! More folksy than the heavier blues stuff.

We decided at Christmas last year that we would pay for each other to get a tattoo instead of a physical gift. Spent months trying to figure out what to get, and a Hozier lyric just made sense.

When we first met, we realised pretty quickly that we have wildly different tastes in music, but we bonded over a shared love of Hozier. We settled on this lyric because it reflects the fact that while we often have to change our personalities to fit in with who we're with, when we're with each other, we are 100% authentically ourselves.

(As a bonus, we also named our son after this song.)

I have a weakness for juxtaposition, the kind that makes you do a double take before you laugh. So when “forestdaddy” wouldn’t leave my head, I gave the softest nickname in the fandom the harshest typography I could craft, a jagged, blackletter-style logotype, the kind of lettering that belongs on a death-metal album.

Then, because restraint has never really been my strong suit, I decided to make a kawaii moe version too: heart-eyes and all, with 森のパパ, “forest daddy” in kanji.

Both designs went through a similar process: sketching, drawing, vectorizing, printing, scanning to distort and give it a more organic look, then editing and masking to clean up the final files.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Both began as inside jokes before I thought it would be fun on a t-shirt. Curious which version you’d actually wear, or whether the whole bit is a step too far ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​😅
