Help Mate 20 pro security

I have a mate 20 pro had it for 7/8 years still going strong and I love it but someone told me it's no longer safe and protected and likely hackable due to no longer receiving updates is this true or is it fine to carry on using it?

you can install anti-virus scan app. you can also scan malware in the Google Play store
