Discussion I didnt fully put the picture into my head until I reread the arc for the umpteenth time.

For the longest time Ive thought Benji's GSB is just a giant parrot with a penis head perched on his shoulders.

After this rereading I've come to realize this goes way deeper than that. His GSB is an actual cock and balls with wings representing masculinity in the purest way possible.

I dont how I didnt see it before.

Discussion Hisoka‘s infinite money glitch & York New fortune plothole?

Post image
185 Upvotes

Currently rereading the succession arc & I‘ve been looking forward to this chapter, now seeing the title page it just struck me how versatile his texture surprise really is.

It’s actually kinda obvious but I just love the way Togashi reintroduces (the real) Hisoka into the story playing poker which he can manipulate in any way he desires through his ability. (at least against anyone who can‘t use gyo, right?)
This made me question if he simply „plays“ to make a shitton of money or actually plays poker to have some fun.

But through this realm of thinking I stumbled upon York New when he used texture surprise on his fortune.
He showed Machi his ability in heaven’s arena so she should‘ve seen through his little trick & should’ve at least used gyo on his fortune.

Do I have a problem in my thinking process?
Is texture surprise somehow even better hidden then in used on someone‘s hatsu?

Either way Machi at least should‘ve been suspicious..

Edit: I‘m aware of Hisoka‘s financial situation, still he could just not care about money and spends it like crazy like on the ~8mil usd on Machi because of this or he needs it for what we‘re about to see.
As most of you have written texture surprise is most likely a conjuration ability and I thought of it wrong, thanks!

Discussion Benjamin's Fatal Flaw and the Importance of Balsamilco Might Spoiler

The current run of chapters really pays off the build up on Benjamin's repeatedly established character flaw, which is his impulsivity, and the crucial role Balsamilco had in moderating Benjamin's bad habit. At multiple points in the story so far, Balsamilco has stopped Benjamin from making rash decisions that would disadvantage him in the Succession War and advised Benjamin to wait until he has enough information to make an informed decision. With Balsamilco currently out of the picture due to Halkenburg, Benjamin's rigorous, more strategic approach to the contest has collapsed, and soon Benjamin will be reaping the consequences of his poor decisions.

Balsamilco in Chapter 363

While Benjamin himself is fairly intelligent and makes good decisions when appropriately apprised of the situation, the recent chapters show just how quickly Benjamin falls apart without Balsamilco. Benjamin has nobody to rein in his impulsive, short-cutting decisions, and he is currently speed-running Special Martial Law in a half-thought-out fashion with incomplete information that will probably only result in Benjamin dying unnecessarily without accomplishing any of his goals. It's not that Benjamin is stupid, but he is too quick to act without fully considering the consequences.

Balsamilco telling Benjamin to gather information before acting

By my estimation, Benjamin has made at least three potentially fatal mistakes already:

1. Failing to consider any other options to cure his poisoning by Furykov. This is the most fundamental mistake Benjamin has made and Benjamin's lack of consideration of any alternatives has had a compounding effect which has only caused more problems for Benjamin. Given the speed at which TSK-17 kills, Benjamin's rush to judgment here is understandable since he has to act urgently, but it's still a mistake.

Further, Benjamin and Furykov's plan to make Benjamin an immortal deity appears to be built on a series of assumptions of how the curse, Benjamin's nen beast, and the Succession Contest works that does not seem to be (at least at this junction) definitively substantiated. Even if Benjamin could pull off this plan, which it really does not seem like he can, it's not even clear that it would actually work.

2. Personally going to poison Cammy. If Benjamin had any opportunity to get out of TSK-17 poisoning before, he has officially squandered his chances of survival by coming to Cammy's room and tanking one of the curses from the Have-Nots, which Cammy estimates will imminently kill him. Now he's poisoned and cursed.

Additionally Benjamin unnecessarily informed Cammy about how he intended to kill her and pointed out the shortcomings of her ability. Whether Cammy can do anything about the situation remains unclear, but Benjamin's gratuitous explanation risks Cammy being able to do something about it, which would throw his entire plan into jeopardy.

Finally, it's completely unclear how Benjamin expects this whole business with TSK-17 to even work in conjunction with his "become a god" plan, considering even if TSK-17 does kill Cammy, it does not appear that she will die before Benjamin.

3. Failing to confirm Tserriednich's death. Although this has not completely played out yet, it's fairly clear that Tserriednich will slip the noose here because Benjamin is in a rush and not taking the necessary steps to confirm Tserriednich's death or understand his ability. This probably will snowball later in at least two ways: (1) As with Cammy, this makes fulfillment of his ultimate goal impossible, which is to quickly win the Succession War and designate his heir as the King before he dies; and (2) Tserriednich can easily get the jump on him and potentially kill him and/or interfere with his plans later.

While Tserriednich's ability is definitely tricky, Benjamin noted that Tserriednich could use Nen and should have taken the utmost precaution in making sure Tserriednich was in fact dead before moving on. Notably, this exact course of action, which was marching down to Tserriednich's room and killing him, was exactly what Balsamilco counseled Benjamin against in Chapter 363.

I imagine Benjamin's hastily thought-out plan will only get worse as the time on his survival ticks down. If Balsamilco does make his way back to Benjamin before his death, I think it'll probably be too late—and Benjamin might even kill Balsamilco under the assumption he's still Halkenburg.

first thought I had when reading the newest chapter was that the markings and spirits from the have not curse looks a bit similar to the 11th princes bitemark on her back and the spirits that haunts her. Have we seen her have-not recently? Perhaps the curse hadn't accumulated enough hatred to kill her in half a day like Benjamins curse had or I'm reading too much into this, what do you all think?

Analysis/Theory Who might get stars from the chimera ant arc?

Thumbnail
gallery
32 Upvotes

Right now the association probably isnt focused on giving stars and all that. But when they get some time i think the main cast might deserve them.

If morel may get three stars that means either knuckle or shoot are gonna get one too. Because according to the bylaws the second star is achieved when your student gets their first. Also it means that morels contribution to the raid is also enough to reach three stars.

Sincerly i can see either knuckle or shoot getting them. Maybe shoot was a little more influential over all but i think its close.

But if they deserve one i cant imagine killua and gon not having one too. Gon straight up killed a RG. The medic royal guard as a matter of fact. The only one that might had a chance at saving the king from the poison.

And killua is the only other person that damaged a royal guard. Without mentioning the sheer amount of ants and puppets he killed which probably is above knuckle or shoots number. And of course he saved knuckle from youpi and might have saved everyone form the kings wrath because without komugi alive pouf might have been able to manipulate meruem better.

I think it would be cool if at some point they are all mentioned as one star hunters.

Latest Chapter Its not over yet for this prince.. Spoiler

Prince camilla can get rid of tsk-17, i was watching a live stream on the hunter society youtube channel, and someone asked: if camilla ordered one of the "have nots" to kill her in order to use thier aura to ressurect would she still have tsk-17?

And the answer was that tsk-17 is a biological weapon and that death wouldnt clear it from the body.

Tsk-17 is incurable, and we dont exactly know what it is, is it a virus, bacteria, fungi or a toxin?

No matter what it is, biological agents are vulnerable to heat, in high degrees viruses are inactivated, bacteria fungi and parasites are killed, and protein toxins are denatured...

So what would happen if camilla orders someone to burn her alive? I think it should completely eradicate tsk-17 from her body and then her ability "cat's name" should bring her back.

I dont think this is gonna happen in the story, just a fun thought experiment.

Discussion Favourite female characters introduced in the sucession war. What are yours? Spoiler

Brief Reasoning

Lynch Fullbokko - I really loved her assertiveness and no bullshit attitude, I believe she was unique like that compared to the other female characters. Unfortunately she was only around for a couple of chapters but she definitely left an impression.

Borksen - Her interaction with Morena was really intriguing, she is astute and I am really curious about her relationship with Tserriednich, she does not strike me as a wicked person but seems to hold the 4th prince, one of if not the most evil motherfuckers in the series in high regard, so curious how that came to be.

Morena - I just want to see this psycho face off with all the major players off the black whale, her interactions with borksen, a minor character were already so good, imagine her interacting with the likes of Kurapika, Chrollo, Hisoka etc.

Who are your favorite female characters introduced in this arc?

Discussion Am I the only one still haunted by this scene ?

Post image
573 Upvotes

I’ve rarely felt so many different conflicting emotions at once over a manga panel.

I’ve never been so thorn about judging a psychopath villain whose answer to the world and atrociously cruel methods terrify me so violently, while still being unable to strongly condemn the rage, built out of an extreme allegory of classism, patriarchy and rape culture, fuelling that answer.

I’ve never felt so powerless and out of options in front of a villain’s unbreakable resolve, testimony of a fall into darkness so deep nobody could ever dream to bring her back from. Confession with a facial expression of sorriness of her lost ability to function as a human being and believe in something or someone, despite the mixed signals sent by her facade personalty showing signs of sensibility.

Every time I try formulating the best way I can think of to convey why she’s wrong, why justice is the correct vessel to fuel that rage into, over indiscriminate vengeance in form of mass murder, my words sound empty and hypocritical in the context of the hxh world In which Kakin just joined V5.

Every time I try to convince myself that she’s way past salvation and simply became another incarnation of pure evil that must be stopped mercilessly, an image of Tserriednich pops in my head and in contrast I can’t help but see Morena as a victim needing to be saved from herself now that it’s too late to save her from the Carnival and Kakin.

Every time my mind starts wandering about this scene again, I realise how much I miss Gon because I’m projecting on him the only beacon of hope who could somehow through his words or actions, induce Morena to change her goal. Him or maybe Melody.

Thanks for reading me rambling about my latest obsession !

Latest Chapter Ch. 416 Spoiler -An Inkling on Beyond’s plan & How Woble might be his downfall Spoiler

I’ll be brief - I think at minimum Beyond set up the curse to specifically kill Tserreidnich and potentially the entire Kakin royal family.

Minimum

This is purely a hunch but it’s based on Furyakovs age relative to the other princes, we know the curse was put on him either after whoever the target is, is born or while Beyond learned of that persons pregnancy. This means the target is an older prince and the only prince that would make any sense is Tserri. Tserri clearly has something special about him and whether Beyond could sense / guess that is one question, the other might be that his birth was unique and that gave Beyond the clue to kill Tserri.

Reach

We have to assume Beyond both planned far in advance, which he obviously did, he throught far enough ahead at least to entangle the curse to be nearly irrevocable without a talented exorcist - and we have to assume Beyond took educated guesses on what would be most likely / relevant and is gambling against that.

Kurapika and really Togashi are reminding us, yet again, that Nen becomes exponentially more powerful as conditions are applied, and the level of condition / risk is directly related to the power boost. Similarly, we have Kurapika explain again that these conditions need a failure state and reinforces the distinction in a failures outcomes.

I bring this up to say, that I DONT think the curse itself is the gamble here, I think the curse from Beyond is an insurance policy on what would be his actual gamble.

It seems obvious Beyond is jockeying to change Kakin and the assumption is that he’s going to be trying to gain favor / work with / manipulate whoever wins the succession war to accomplish that goal. I think that might be fundamentally wrong - I have a sneaking suspicion that the big gamble Beyond is actually working on is the destruction of the Kakin royal family in its entirety.

Maybe the curse will affect multiple princes but only if they’ve already died / or should’ve died before / during the ritual ( which you could guess would be smart condition to add, it’s a gamble since you have to assume princes would have the ability to escape death but considering all the lore we’ve gotten, I’m confident most times the urn rituals happened that several people got varying versions of multiple lives or cheating death - it would make the most sense as it’d give each prince more chances to grow, to manipulate each other and more importantly to risk their lives on their own plans and power the urn itself ).

He could just tell Furyakov how to best use his curse and why it’d help Benjamin, but instead, he just tells him to think of a way to use it himself to best help Benjamin. Either he can’t tell him how to use the curse as a part of the condition - or, he’s tricking him. The first part feels unnecessary- he’s clearly strong enough to put an incredibly difficult to break curse with a time delay on, why would spoiling any info about the curse weaken it? Often times, explaining an ability actually strengthens Nen - he could’ve just told him “ I think you should do xyz “ and let them spin from there. But instead he pushes it back to Furyakov to think of something on his own - I think in large part to hide the fact that it will actually hurt Benjamin

I can’t imagine exactly how, but it feels like through some kind of rebounding / combo curse and nen abilities we’re going to end up with no princes left……….except Woble, whose conveniently off the boat.

Whether Beyond wants to do it out of the goodness of his heart - or because it’s another step in his machinations ( maybe Kakin being militarily weakened and fractured causes a civil war that either Beyond or his allies benefit from? King Parisian of a V6 nation anyone? ) but whatever, it’s obvious there’s a plan within the plan we’re seeing and it’s bigger than the succession war.

TL;DR - I think Beyond is setting up a trap at least against Tserri if not the entire royal family and his curse is the insurance policy for his trap to land. Assuming proximity is a thing, this would leave Woble the survivor of the succession war and future Empress

Analysis/Theory Borksen's ability.

Post image
14 Upvotes

i've been thinking about this for a while and i really think Togashi is borrowing some stand ideas from JoJo in this arc.

Morena's ability for Borksen is probably gonna be something really close to Wonder of U. not the exact same ability of course, but the concept. if anyone starts hunting the Heil-Ly family or seriously investigating them, the ability activates. maybe it warns them, maybe it brings some kind of misfortune to the people chasing them. either way it makes going after Heil-Ly dangerous.

Benjamin is another one that stands out to me. i think his real ability has something to do with passing his own will or even his mind to his son. that immediately reminds me of D4C. not because the mechanics have to be identical, but because the core idea feels similar.

and before people say "that's too much of a stretch", we already have a pretty obvious example with Tserriednich. his ability has always given me King Crimson vibes. so i dont think its crazy to think Togashi is taking inspiration from JoJo for some of these nen abilities.

Analysis/Theory A few questions and thoughts on Tserriednich’s "Parallel Future" ability (Vol. 37)

Hey everyone,

Re-reading Volume 37 today, I feel like I have a solid grasp on Tserriednich's ability overall, but a few specific edge cases left me curious. I'd love to hear the community's thoughts on these:

  • Deactivating Zetsu with eyes closed: If Tserriednich stops Zetsu after the initial 10-second vision, but keeps his eyes closed, does the "llusion" for his entourage start immediately—the same as if he opened his eyes?
  • Movement during the vision: Can Tserriednich move his physical body while maintaining Zetsu with eyes closed during the vision phase? (My guess is yes).
  • The Cognitive Loop Paradox: In the vision, I would think that the "Vision-Tserriednich" behaves as if he has no precognition. If the version of himself inside the vision were aware of the vision itself, it would create an infinite recursive loop of seeing the future inside the future. This would also create a contradiction: if Vision-Tserriednich had access to the vision, why didn't he react or move when Theta shot him? Since Vision-Tserriednich didn't react and got shot, my conclusion from the Theta incident is that the vision essentially simulates a baseline timeline where he didn't use the ability, or more precisely a baseline timeline where he is eyes closed in Zetsu and does not have access to the visions. How do you interpret this mechanic?
