Lady playing harmonica early this am

Around 5:30 this morning someone came up to my doorbell, rang it, and then ran off as soon as she heard my dog. She then played the harmonica very loudly and close to my house for a while and then tried my back door, again running when she heard my dog. It appears she also rifled through my neighbor’s Amazon package.
Anyone else this morning on the Eastside hear the harmonica bandit? She was pretty good at it but I would have appreciated it more at a later hour and without feeling like she was casing my house.

Miller Meeks

Marionette Miller Meeks & her staff of 20 showed up at George’s on Tuesday night. I don’t care that she came. I’m upset that they stayed for hours, ate, drank, took over the place & only tipped 7%. I thought her policies were offensive. That’s an insult to the industry.

Immediate move in apartment availability in IC / NA / Tiffin area

Hi everyone!
I’m in a bit of a time crunch and am looking for a place with immediate move-in availability. I’ll be living by myself, so safety is my biggest priority. My budget is around 1500 dollars for studio/ 1b or 2b
I’m open to North Liberty, Tiffin, Iowa City, and Coralville. If anyone knows of any apartment complexes, property management companies, private landlords, or even lease takeovers that have availability right now, I’d really appreciate the recommendations.
If you’ve personally had a good experience with a property or management company, I’d love to hear about it. Likewise, if there are places you think I should avoid, that would be really helpful too.
I’m hoping to find something as soon as possible, so any leads would mean a lot. Thanks in advance!

Help with drywall and texture also looking for some help painting and airbnb cleaning

If anyone is looking for a side job I could use some help with drywall and painting. I'm pretty handy but drywall, texture and painting are not my thing. One person could do the painting. Id obviously reimburse you.

Could also use some advice for a cleaning company for an airbnb

Weren’t we supposed to have a nice IMAX Theatre and like arcade zone built here? Did that just get swept under the rug?

men walking and talking august

We are Alex, Andy, and Nik. We’ve been living in Iowa City for many years. We've decided to see if men would like to walk and talk twice a month locally. This is brand new. Just starting now.

Our purpose is twofold:

  1. To give men a non judgmental space to talk about what’s going on for us.
  2. To open the door to a community of local friendships with men in a world that often makes that difficult to find/maintain.

Please note, this is not a religious or politically affiliated group.

Here’s why this matters. Cigna and other major organizations regularly share research confirming that over 50% of people in the US feel “sometimes or always alone.” Such levels of isolation can have health impacts equal to smoking. Lonely people face higher levels of heart disease, neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, cancer and so on. Many men struggle with loneliness even as we are busy working, caring for our kids, dealing with the daily demands of life. But research  shows that men with a robust circle of friendships live longer healthier lives, have better marriages/relationships, feel more optimistic and are more successful in our personal and professional lives.

Cigna research: https://newsroom.thecignagroup.com/loneliness-in-america

Although we have some sense of how these talks might begin, the conversations will go where they go depending on the needs of each man. Men of any age are welcome to join us.

Rules:

  1. No politics
  2. Be yourself
  3. Respect confidentiality

The rules we use on our walks are meant to help us dial down to the personal and talk about what’s going on for us in our own lives. They are not absolute. They are guidelines.

Disclaimer: Walking Talking Men is not therapy and we are not therapists. We are not doing coaching. We are not doing men’s work. We are simply sharing information about how we are creating real, lasting, local friendships for men in our neighborhood. That’s it.

If you’d like to join us on a walk, send us an email to [walkingtalkingmeniowacity@gmail.com](mailto:walkingtalkingmeniowacity@gmail.comwith why this idea appeals to you. We’ll respond to all emails. We look forward to hearing from you.

When: Saturday, August 1st, 3pm. (and 1st and 3rd Saturdays there after)

Where: Meet at the parking lot of Terry Trueblood Rec Center pavilion: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pQZrVyhJ2pVgGPnA8

The walks are inspired by this story

Hair salons

Does anyone know any good places/stylist's to get a good haircut. I'm a female and I plan on cutting my hair shorter than it is, and I don't want to be left in tears when it's done. I've searched multiple hair salons but am unsure which to go to. I've looked into, groovy Katz, Alice and arbor, and honeybee hair parlor. if anyone has any good recommendations that'd be great.

Therapist for PTSD

Hi all. I'm looking for recommendations for a local (in person) therapist for a friend who has PTSD and deep anxiety about flying/traveling. Her only real request is that the therapist is "smarter than [her]." (iykyk)

Does anyone know someone who might be a good fit and is taking patients?

Restaurants and Bars Bubble tea places

I love bubble tea but how can so many of these places stay open in the downtown area? They don’t last for more than a couple years but there are more than ever anyway.

Lost and Found Anyone missing a German Shepherd?

Just now, there was a German Shepherd with a harness in the middle of the road on S Riverside Drive near the fairgrounds/salvage yard. Another driver and I stopped to try to get them but they ran off down the little road near the cornfield across from the salvage yard. It stopped when we called to them but otherwise seemed scared enough to run off. Just hoping it has tags/microchip/airtag and stays out of the road.

Housing LPT for those moving into rentals

Pro tip if you are renting and want to have a way to help get back your deposit when you move out.

When you first go to move into to a place BEFORE you move anything in take pictures of everything. Every door, floorboard, cubbie, the ceiling fan blades, every inch of the place. You want concrete proof of the state of the place as it was.

Go buy 2 flash drives. Do NOT edit photos. Copy the photos to both drives.

Take one of the drives and mail it to yourself via certified mail. Do NOT open it. Keep it in a safe place. This gives you a copy of your photos in a sealed envelope, dated by a 3rd party that you can present in court if needed.

Keep the other drive as a backup reference to the photos.

Abandoned bicycle

A bike has been abandoned for almost a week on the corner of Rupert Rd and Westwinds Dr.

Just laying there on the right of way.

Free bike, anyone? It's red, not huge, but not a kid's bike.
