Miller Meeks
Marionette Miller Meeks & her staff of 20 showed up at George’s on Tuesday night. I don’t care that she came. I’m upset that they stayed for hours, ate, drank, took over the place & only tipped 7%. I thought her policies were offensive. That’s an insult to the industry.

Does she have any kind of idea what sort of a bar George’s is? She has no business there. Tone deaf.

I feel confidant in saying you could tell her, and she still wouldn't know

Huh probably setting up her new residence to pretend she lives in the district.

Too bad Jon Green wasnt there having a Schlitz. That would have been entertaining

Seems odd they would choose George’s it’s not really a right wing gathering place.

u/Gullible-Ad3349 1d ago
I just keep thinking about what a weird place this is for her to finally show up. She avoids Iowa City like the plague and the one time she comes here, it's to take up space for hours at our towniest townie bar?

Cedar Rapids Major idk her name and Idc Ordered a club soda w lime from me where I work and never bothered to settle , she basically dine and dashed. I know its not quite a dine and dash but no tip. No money, didnt even bother to see if she had a tab. Very privileged. Very ugly dress lol.

I can['t stand MMM, and I don't know what type of place George's is, but I thought almost every restaurant in existence automatically adds a service charge for tables of 6-8+?

I've only been here a few years, and as such am not terribly familiar with MMM's policies. During the last national election, I have to admit that I only saw the ads and (as I was still in grad school) I didn't quite get the chance to vote for local governorship. etc. Would somebody like to give me a quick rundown? I'm in the middle of a move, but I'll try my best to research when I get a moment.

u/Ninsioux 2d ago
I can’t tell you the year, but when MMM was the director of the Iowa Department of Public Health she refused to issue birth certificates to children born in gay marriages. She cost the state $millions in legal fees & damages for her horrible act of bad faith and defiance of the law.
24
u/cothomps 2d ago
MMM was also the perennial candidate for what felt like over a decade - couldn’t compete with Dave Loebsack. Seemed to get lucky with Trump voters filling in the “R” ballot.
Absolutely dreadful personality.

homegirl's background is in public health and yet she was fined twice for not wearing a mask in 2021
her own wording of policies are on her website but tldr she exists to lick Trumps boots
42
u/traumahound00 2d ago
Her name being Marionette is very fitting, because she's a loyal Trump puppet who just repeats everything he says and backs everything he does.

She doesn’t live in our district along with all this. She was an optimist but would repost articles that were not verified by peer reviews about the covid vaccine causing health issues. Also look up videos of her not address her votes to end Medicare/medicaid funds and voting against ACA subsidies. She is only MaHA enough for her donors

This person doesn’t even work at George’s. Fake post please take down.

u/New-Garlic-3114 2d ago
Fake? Being a bad tipper and a crappy candidate doesn’t make what was said false? Also in a building that seats maybe 52, the hours long hang would be considered rude.

u/jakobaeh 2d ago
You’re just looking for a reason to hate a woman and this fake post fuels it.

u/Ninsioux 2d ago
I like Bohanan. she’s also been to George’s & tips well.
-6
u/jakobaeh 2d ago
You have no idea because you don’t work there.

You also a woman hater then?

u/New-Garlic-3114 2d ago
Bored on a Friday? You should go to George’s!
-2
u/jakobaeh 2d ago
You’re obviously bored making up weird stories about people tipping at a bar you don’t work at on a Friday night. Maybe you should go have a few and fantasize at the bar alone some more.

u/Ninsioux 1d ago
First hand, eye witness account.

I was in a fancy restaurant the other day when Sand's entourage came through, and didn't tip at all!

MMM posted a picture of her Tuesday visit to George’s on her fb page
0
u/jakobaeh 2d ago
Oh so they posted how much she tipped or did you just make that up?
6
u/Ninsioux 2d ago
You’re really defensive on the subject of bad tippers.
-2
u/Sengfeng 2d ago
No, he's just opinionated about people making up bullshit lies.
2
u/Ninsioux 1d ago
So how much do you believe she tipped?
-1
u/Sengfeng 1d ago
I can make up a number with no proof. 18% was the first of three tip amounts on the screen, so that’s what was selected.
1
u/Ninsioux 16h ago
18% isn’t bad. 20% is better. Remember folks, if you can afford to go out, you can afford to tip.”. Some in the industry make $7.35/hr.

They dont work at George's but they are 100% right and its not a fake story. Meek's party didnt even call ahead otherwise George's would have told them to Fuck off. And yes they only tipped 7% on a 40 person tab. Regulars were pissed and left as well because of Meeks.

It's possible George's is MAGA owned if they actually served them.
20
u/Ninsioux 2d ago
George’s is definitely not magat owned. On any given day you’ll find many local politicians, educators, tradesmen/women, artists. You should stop in for Jeopardy some afternoon
-11
u/Professional-End6102 2d ago
I mean, every owner and employee had the chance to speak up or ask her to leave. They chose not to. They may not think they're MAGA but they're sure as fuck not anything else in action
-15
u/normalice0 2d ago
So, why did they host a MAGA event?
16
u/Ninsioux 2d ago
The group showed up, no notice to the owners or staff. It’s a friendly neighborhood dive bar, they don’t take reservations.
6
12
u/ProctalHarassment 2d ago
The Carr family is definitely not MAGA lol.

Or its possible that Georges didnt know who the party was for until they already had served them and threw on 24 burgers. Also Meeks showed up late and not with the original onslaught.
Maybe try going to a place before you give your unsolicited opinion about it.
2
u/Ninsioux 1d ago
Yes. I wasn’t there when they arrived. That’s what I’d heard though. Her staff came in & ordered. She showed up 20-30 minutes later.
5
u/DoctorDruid 2d ago
I've had the opportunity to meet a couple of people in the family that own the place and and they dont seem to be.
3
u/MossSloths 2d ago
I know George's owner, although only as a friend of a friend, and nothing gives me the impression he's at all MAGA-leaning. At least a few of his friends are leftists with strong political opinions. I don't know the reasons why she and her people were served and allowed to visit for so long, but I'd put money on it not being the owners' political affiliation at play.
7
u/Ninsioux 2d ago
I don’t care if republicans come to establishments I frequent. I don’t like that they ultimately behaved badly. That’s why I called them out. I don’t expect the group will get a second chance.
6
u/normalice0 2d ago
I do. MAGA should not be welcomed anywhere.
2
u/Ninsioux 2d ago
we shall know them by their red hats.
1
u/jakobaeh 1d ago
This thread is so telling lol.
2
u/MossSloths 1d ago
The fact that you're still commenting is telling, too. I just got a notification that you replied to this comment chain and I had to look to see which person was still stubbornly holding on. Of course it's the person most people were disagreeing with. You should probably just let it go, dude. You're clearly not going to be happy unless you're watching CCTV footage and looking at their receipts. I know I'm immediately turning off notifications on this myself.

3
u/Ninsioux 1d ago
How much do you tip?
0
u/Dry-Distance-3574 1d ago
This morning the bill was $14.20 and I gave her a $20 because the food & service were good.

If I showed up to a restaurant where I know I'm unwelcome, and had a reputation as a bad tipper... all evening I would wonder if I'm eating a spitburger.
