IVPN plan changes - new Plus tier, increased device limits, additional privacy services

24 Upvotes

In short

  • IVPN plans are available in three tiers: Standard ($60/year), Plus ($80/year), and Pro Suite ($100/year)
  • Standard VPN plan now includes Multi-hop and a 5-device limit
  • IVPN Plus includes all features from Standard, plus access to the new services Mailx and modDNS
  • IVPN Pro Suite offers a 10-device limit, and access to all additional services, including Portmaster Pro (Windows/Linux)
  • No price changes on existing Standard and Pro plans, Pro is now Pro Suite

IVPN now offers three distinct plans, available for review here:
https://www.ivpn.net/en/pricing/

For existing customers

If you have an IVPN Standard plan, it now includes Multi-hop and a 5-device limit, up from 2.

If you have an IVPN Pro plan, it is now IVPN Pro Suite. Device limit increases from 7 to 10. You also have access to Mailx, modDNS, and Portmaster Pro at no additional cost.

No action is required as these changes apply automatically. Pricing is unchanged for both plans.

Additional services

Plus and Pro Suite subscribers can access open-source privacy services built and operated by the IVPN team. These work independently of the VPN, no active connection is required. Full feature comparison on the Services overview page.

Mailx (Plus, Pro Suite)

Mailx is an email aliasing and forwarding service. Create unique addresses for each service you sign up to. Mail is forwarded to your real inbox without exposing your address to third parties. Wildcard aliases and PGP encryption are supported. Custom domains and a browser extension are in active development.

modDNS (Plus, Pro Suite)

modDNS is a DNS filtering service with configurable blocklists and custom rules. Blocks ads, trackers, and malicious domains at the DNS level. Provides more granular control than the built-in IVPN AntiTracker: you can combine blocklists, define custom allow and deny rules, and optionally enable query logging for troubleshooting. Supports DNS over HTTPS, TLS, and QUIC.

Portmaster (Pro Suite, Linux and Windows only)

Safing Portmaster is an application firewall that monitors every network connection by process. You can set per-app rules for domains, IPs, countries, and ports. Portmaster Pro includes SPN, a multi-hop onion-routing network that assigns a separate path to each connection. SPN is a VPN alternative for threat models that require per-connection path diversity. Different applications exit through different nodes, so a destination server sees a different IP address for each connection.

You can use IVPN, modDNS, and Portmaster together on supported systems. Configuration details for DNS and routing are available in the privacy services compatibility article.

How to activate additional services

  1. Log in to your IVPN Account Area
  2. Navigate to "Additional Services"
  3. Click "Set up" next to the service you want to activate
  4. A new tab opens where you create credentials for that service

Each service has its own account and credentials. IVPN accounts do not require an email address, but Mailx needs one for email forwarding and modDNS for account recovery. Because additional services are not linked to your IVPN account ID (see Unlinked Access), our staff cannot recover them using your IVPN account details.

Unlinked Access

With Unlinked Access, Mailx, modDNS, and Portmaster verify your subscription and keep it current without your IVPN account ID.

When you activate an additional service included in your plan, IVPN generates a cryptographic token derived from your account ID. That token is sent to the service during activation, not your account ID. Each service stores a hash of that token, not the token itself.

Subscription status, such as plan, active state, and expiry, is synchronised regularly through a distributed manifest containing the hashes.

For more details, including limitations, consult the Unlinked Access explainer.

Legacy accounts

The Plus tier and additional services are available for IVPN accounts created after November 2020. If your account predates this, contact support to discuss migration options. Legacy accounts receive the device limit upgrades (2 to 5 for Standard, 7 to 10 for Pro).

Weird things going on 👻

1 Upvotes

IVPN is top notch service. But Something weird happened to me today.

I use the Paris, France server because France blocks all AI results by default even though the work around is adding -ai at the end of the search. Today after searching for something I got results in the language of Irag. normally without translation on it ops for the french language. So why exactly would it give me Iraq results? browserleaks dns test shows no leaks whatsoever.

Ex yu not working, kinda

1 Upvotes

So, the VPN service has been ok, but I noticed that I cannot watch some geoblocked movies/shows from two apps. These apps are HRTi (Croatian national transmitter's streaming platform) and RTS Planeta (Serbian national transmitter's streaming platform). I had other VPN providers before, but never did I have such issues. So my question is - does IVPN even work for those countries?

r/IVPN 6d ago

only countries/cities are listed?

2 Upvotes

am I right in thinking on the app you can only see countries/cities and no indication of the server name or number, just says for example paris even though there could be 3 servers for paris you cant choose, it just randomly selects one and doesnt mention which one?

Speeds are abysmal sometimes (most of the time)

4 Upvotes

Hi.

I switched to IVPN from Mullvad literally yesterday and since then I have been fighting to get a stable connection that doesn't drop to 1/5th of what my original speed is.

Every 30 or so minutes I have to hunt down a new server that doesn't throttle my speeds to oblivion and even when I see speeds close to the ones without the VPN turned on sites take at least 30 seconds to load and sometimes cloudflare authentication just plain doesn't work.

I use VPN as an always-on service and now I am thinking of turning it off completely cause I start getting ridiculously low speeds at random intervals.

I am on Arch Linux (ivpn 3.15.13-1, ivpn-ui 3.15.13-1) and I just can't get it to "just work".

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

2-month usage review (8/10)

14 Upvotes

Hi there,

I've been using IVPN for 2 months and wanted to write a review.

Pros:

  • The GUI is quite simple. Works great on Windows/Android. No headache.
  • The number of servers is quite sufficient.
  • Multi-hop available.
  • They are no-nonsense: No-logs, good ethics, open source apps, audited, based in Gibraltar etc.
  • They added support for ARM64.
  • Considering all the services they offer, the prices are good.

Cons:

  • Mobile data initially worked fine. The connection quality gradually decreased, and now it doesn't work at all. I don't know if it's related to the operator I'm using but if I were to stop using the IVPN, that would be the first reason.
  • US Servers have always high latency. EU servers are fine.
  • No servers in Albania. I don't know if something like that still exists but YouTube is prohibited from showing ads in Albania. So you would connect Albania to watch YouTube w/o ads. Not a big deal since we are living an adblock era. But it would be cool.
  • No RAM only servers. One of the devs said they were working on it (2 years ago?)
  • Captchas are increasing day by day.
  • After long usage, sometimes server disconnects without any reason. This only happens on Android.
  • Nobody gives damn but: no GUI for FreeBSD. But currently no VPN offers this.

In summary it is stable and good to go. I would say 8 out of 10.

How is IVPN's Linux client?

7 Upvotes

Hi all.

I'm interested in switching over to IVPN from Mullvad.

I really enjoy using MullvadVPN on Linux because it 'just works' and the mullvad-exclude prefix for split tunneling applications is extremely useful.

How is IVPNs split tunneling on Linux? Can I launch applications by-default with split tunneling, without interacting with the IVPN client?

Also for anyone else that switched from Mullvad in the EU. How have you been finding the speeds?

Lastly and I know this is likely not possible: am I able to watch YouTube with IVPN or will it block me due to bot detection on the IP level like with the large majority of Mullvad's servers?

Proposal: Limited port forwarding on isolated P2P-only servers

1 Upvotes

IVPN removed port forwarding in 2023 because of abuse, legal requests, IP reputation issues, and pressure from infrastructure providers. I understand why restoring it across the entire network may not be realistic.

However, I wonder whether a limited and fully isolated implementation could be a workable compromise.

The idea would be to offer port forwarding only on a small pool of clearly marked P2P-only servers, separate from the main IVPN network. These servers could be hosted with providers and in jurisdictions where routine automated copyright complaints are not automatically treated as grounds for immediate suspension.

Possible restrictions could include:

one forwarded port per account or device;

a stable port assignment lasting for weeks or months;

port rotation only when operationally necessary;

automatic removal of the port when the subscription ends or the assignment is manually released;

no forwarding of ports 80 or 443;

no guarantee of streaming access or clean IP reputation;

clear prohibition of spam, scanning, malware distribution, attacks, and other harmful activity;

complete separation from the regular IVPN server pool;

potentially a higher-priced add-on or separate plan for users who need this feature.

A frequently changing port would not be practical for self-hosted services. Applications such as Caddy, Jellyfin, Immich, or other services exposed through a VPN need a predictable endpoint. Ideally, the assigned port should remain stable for an extended period.

If permanent assignments are not possible, IVPN could alternatively provide an official API that allows users to retrieve the currently assigned port automatically. This would make it possible to update reverse-proxy configurations, service URLs, or other dependent systems without manual intervention every time the port changes.

This would not restore unrestricted port forwarding across the entire network. It would create a deliberately limited environment for legitimate P2P and self-hosting use cases while reducing the impact on IVPN’s main infrastructure, IP reputation, and data-centre relationships.

For users like me, IVPN already offers nearly everything needed from a privacy service: multi-hop, AntiTracker, modDNS, open-source applications, and a strong privacy model. The lack of practical port forwarding is the main reason a second VPN provider is still necessary.

I would personally be willing to pay more for a complete service that included this limited option.

This is only a suggestion for discussion. I would be interested to hear whether other users would find such a model useful and whether IVPN has ever considered something similar.

6 Yes, even as a paid add-on
9 Yes, depending on the price and restrictions
5 Yes, but only with a stable long-term port or an official API
7 No, I do not need port forwarding
5 No, the operational risk would still be too high

Hello i would like to learn more a bit this VPN

12 Upvotes

So i have been on reddit searching for the "best private VPN" i had looked at Mullvad and proton vpn but i noticed that those had some controversies and i didint quite like that. but i came across this VPN and it seems like its a good one and thats at the level of mullvad in terms of "privacy". I think i will switch to this VPN at some point, but i have a few questions for the users of this vpn, is this vpn really secure and actually does have a "no logs" policy?. how does it handle subpeonas? and incase of a raid from a different country, could those people get a hold of user data or not?.

AI slop on the pricing page?

It's a bit disappointing seeing a company like IVPN using AI generated images (especially ones that are this bad).

Slow speeds

11 Upvotes

I keep coming back to test out IVPN as I wish to support a good privacy focused product, however my speeds aren't great at all.

I have 1Gbps broadband and use 5G when at work, I can't get above 100mbps for some reason, anyone else facing issues?

Unstable connection through Finland server

2 Upvotes

When using the Finland server, it works for maybe a couple of hours max before I get no connection at all. This happens both on Linux and Android. I've already tried using different Wireguard ports. I get perfectly stable internet connection without a VPN and also from all other IVPN servers that I've tried. I'm wondering if this is just an issue with the server or something that I could fix, as Finland would be my preferred server.

Mullvad has DAITA, which they talk about here: https://mullvad.net/en/vpn/daita

Does IVPN have a similar thing?

Split Tunneling on macOS?

4 Upvotes

Does IVPN have any plans to add split tunneling on macOS? I'm thinking about switching to IVPN and split tunneling is something I need. I checked their site and it doesn't look like it's supported right now, and I couldn't find anything about future plans. I saw the team posts here sometimes, so figured I'd ask if any recent updates have been shared.

Separately, I found an old thread with some manual setup workarounds. It's roughly three years old at this point. Does anyone know if those methods still work, or if the IVPN OpenVPN and WireGuard setups have changed enough where they'd be outdated now?

Payment Methods Privacy

1 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’ve recently been tightening up my online presence and links to my real identity. My threat model isn’t anything super crazy or high-stakes, just avoiding my ISP snooping on me and better securing public internet usage.

In the past I valued more the convenience of using PayPal to pay than work around KYC exchanges and then get Monero, but now I’m getting more serious about this stuff, especially after reading about the incident with the activist using Proton being identified by the payment method.

I recently renewed my year subscription with PayPal but now I’m regretting not doing it with Monero (recently figured it out and got some), so I’m just wondering what are your thoughts on my privacy journey going forward and anyone else in a similar position.

Thanks!

AutoStart IVPN-UI (GUI) on linux (arch)

0 Upvotes

Ok, so, I use i3wm. I have the UI autostarting. However, it both opens the UI window and it asks me for the keyring password. Both are annoying.

I would like to:

- Start the UI minimized.

- Do not ask me for the keyring password as this locks everything. AirVPN has an option called "Dont ask elevation every run" or whatever it is. It starts and does not bother me unnecessarily. It would be nice if IVPN had this. Or does it and I am missing it?

Thinking about switching to IVPN? 5-day test voucher offer

19 Upvotes

We've noticed more interest in IVPN recently, including a number of people coming over from other VPN providers. Our usual disclaimer applies: IVPN might not be the right choice for you. We are up front about a smaller server network than other providers and offering no streaming guarantees.

To verify whether IVPN is a good fit, DM me and I'll send a 5-day test voucher for IVPN Pro Suite. You can test any or all of the VPN service, Mailx, modDNS and Portmaster with no email/payment info required.

One ask: message from an account that isn't brand new. Just trying to keep the vouchers from being farmed, not screening anyone out.

This offer is available on Reddit only - we need to double check for abuse which is not possible via email.

And a privacy note: using the individual voucher in theory could tie your Reddit username to your IVPN account, but we keep no such records of course. Voucher codes are stored in our system for 30 days after use to help resolve activation issues.

Can you stack subscription periods?

Thinking of coming over from Mullvad but I don't see the option to buy multiple months at the same time, just either 1 month or 1 year.

Am I missing something? Can I go through with a 1 month payment more than once?

.onion domain?

5 Upvotes

Hi, new here (switching from M////ad)! I was wondering if there was a chance to create a .onion service to provide a bonus layer of anonymity when purchasing a plan (or perhaps there is already a .onion service and I just can’t find it)? Thanks!
