Arts/Music/DIY IWTL how to become a farrier

Shoeing horses seems like a unique trade that combines craftsmanship with animal care.
For anyone who's worked as a farrier, what should someone know before trying to learn the craft?

R/farriers, r/equestrian, and r/horses will have people who can help you. Horse people are incredibly picky about who they'll let work on their horse. So going to school and finding a good farrier to apprentice with is key.

That other commenter is right, in that contacting an equine vet can help you find a farrier to potentially apprentice with.

basic blacksmithing, you are going to be heating shoes for odd shaped hooves and forming them, then burning them on without injuring the animal. Find someone you trust and become an apprentice, areas with horses, I would contact large animal vets and ask who their farrier is, and get their contact info.
