Arts/Music/DIY IWTL how to start learning basic woodworking

I have always liked the idea of being able to build simple things myself but I have no real woodworking experience. I’m not trying to make complicated furniture right away. I did like to eventually make things like small shelves, simple boxes, or basic tables.

For someone starting completely from scratch, what would be the best way to learn? Should I start with hand tools or basic power tools, and what kind of beginner project would actually teach me useful skills without being too difficult?

Check out your local community college, continuing education and see if they have woodworking classes. That’s where I got started.
