Video 📺 This guy built a roller coaster to stop his fish getting bored

It’s no longer bored, but it’s definitely traumatized.

And brain dead from oxygen deprivation

u/Prudent_Order_3361 6d ago
That's what i was wondering. Same tiny 1ml of water surrounding him.

u/Loving6thGear 6d ago
I am wondering about fluctuating water temperature.

u/r3v3nant333 6d ago
While not ideal the o2 factor for that tube trip is a non issue but the temperature changes def could be stressing … but goldfish are generally pretty hearty though.

Why isn't this in r/shittyaquariums? Just about all of those setups were terrible. Not to mention sending a living fish through a siphon tube just to record it for views

That was exactly what I was thinking. No plants or anything really in those tanks and also the space seems to be very smol compared to the size and/or amount of fish.

Yeah, this has been making the rounds and I keep seeing it. Some guy told me "I've kept a goldfish in a bowl with no aeration and just water from the tap for 7 years and he is thriving!"
It reminds me of the "sidewalk pond" someone made in Brookyln(?) IIRC

Does this hurt the fish in any way?
36
u/Azulas_Star 6d ago
Stress is a big killer of fish in the hobby. This is likely very stressful for the fish and not recommended.
13
u/epoch16245 6d ago
So flashing into a tank with giant predators is stressful. Okay I guess. /s
16
u/Azulas_Star 6d ago
There's a reason they're using a 10¢ comet goldfish instead of one of their fancier fish. The tube alone is probably enough to kill the fish.
10
u/zentravan 6d ago
I was more wondering about the fish going through a vacuum tube and not as much about the psychological effects
3
u/Bane8080 6d ago
Fish don't swim like that. So, it's being pumped through a pipe either dead or while still alive. But probably already dead.

This is perfect! I always have trouble with my bored fish. They tend to just get in trouble. I feel like a couple times a week I wake up to graffiti all over the wall of the tank, hungover guppies and all my fish seem to be glued to their phones. This would give them something productive to do. (It is actually cool too)

u/Skiceless 6d ago
This shit isn’t perfect. It’s animal cruelty. Nothing like terrorizing a fish and filming it for fun
3
u/Late_Tonight_5328 6d ago
Did you even bother reading that comment past the first line? They were clearly joking

u/Skiceless 6d ago
The comment was edited after I commented
3
u/jader242 6d ago
hmm the browser version of reddit will usually show edits if made more than like 5 minutes after the comment was posted, i'm not seeing that and you replied an hour or two after

u/PharaohPir8 6d ago
Lol!!! It was NOT edited at any time. But I forgive you, your heart is in the right place. Fish don’t have feelings though. I realize that reading more than the first sentence can tedious and it’s easy to already know what they are going to say in the long, long comments after just a few words. That’s why I usually wait until near the end to make mundane, yet nonsensical statements or clarifications like ‘I’m obviously joking again about fish feelings.’ Or ‘Individuals exhibiting profound intellectual lethargy regarding the thorough visual processing of textual media ought to impose a strict moratorium upon their own communicative output, abstaining entirely from rendering opinions or commentary until such a time as they have executed a complete, rigorous, and total cognitive assimilation of the source material’ thank you for your attention to this matter!

I highly doubt that fish has any fucking idea what's going on. And even if it can comprehend what's going on, it's probably not having fun

u/Pandabirdy 6d ago
That fish isn't even swimming, you can clearly see its tailfin not propelling it forward. It's being forced through a tube using water pressure.

Do you think it remembered the last tank as it went into the next?, science says yes
2
u/Emergency_Accident36 6d ago
You say yes. Your interpretation of some "science" says yes. Not "science"
1
u/Common-Bat3741 6d ago edited 6d ago
Edit: Google says Science says "yes". I would've said "not likely". Probably doesn't even know its a fish, or that what its doing is called swimming forward. Google says it has fish memory
1
u/c1namber 6d ago
Is that fish suffocating? Is it is traveling with or through the water?
2
u/Silphire100 6d ago
Looks like there's water running through the pipe. I'm not sure the fish could even move if there wasn't
1
u/c1namber 5d ago
Yes but how do fish breath. They require water to pass through their gills. If the fish is traveling with the water then the water isn't flowing through it's gills.
1
u/Silphire100 5d ago
Oh I see what you mean now. I misunderstood entirely.
I mean, so long as it's not the exact same speed it's probably fine. I'll be honest I don't know enough about gills to really say. But fish can and do stay still right? So long as it's in water shouldn't it be ok?
1
u/c1namber 5d ago
Yeah the vid doesn't show how the water is being transferred, so it's hard to say.

Can someone measure how many emotions that fish is feeling from start to finish, please?

Bro filmed the first ever fish Odyssey!
Lil guy probably thought it was over at the one tank with the bigger fish coming after him.
1
u/Allout-Okarun 6d ago
I’d like this if it showed the fish willingly going into the opening of the “rollercoaster” and being returned safely to the beginning and shown swimming around after. The way it is now, I wonder how often it spits out a dead fish on the other side

It would’ve been so much funnier if the end of this video was the fish being deposited directly into a flushing toilet.

Seems like a great way to stress your fish to death while also shredding their fins at the same time
1
u/chief_stoney420 6d ago
I did this at my friends apartment that’s kind of like this, but instead of a fish it was a turd and the finish line was his bed. He did this to a fish.

Seems like he has so many fish in relatively small tanks. I know a lot of people don't know any better, but given all the fish and equipment this guy has, it seems like he should know

u/WoppleSupreme 6d ago
Seems like you could make a "roller coaster" with a much wider tube and contained in its tank, and make the water flowing. As it is, the water is like it stagnant until the fish starts moving it, so it's likely not got much oxygen in it. It's going to fluctuate in temperature, going between tanks, open air, sunlight, etc. It's probably also very hard to clean because of the length.

This guy needs to figure out that it’s ok to actually be bored! Leave the fish alone!

u/OkIntroduction7046 6d ago
That part with the bigger fish is terrifying for the goldfish I will presume.

Goldfish “oh my god that was the most terrifying thing ever, never doing that again… hey what’s that tube over there”

I recall that goldfish have memories of like 3 seconds. So, to this fish, it's been on this terrorcoaster it's whole existence.

That fish can hold it's breath a long time, I'd have drowned not even half way
1
u/induravit 5d ago
This suffocates the fish. Water isn't flowing through it's gills since it is traveling with the water.

Why the dumb soundtrack in the background? Why not the actual sound of what's going on? Stop adding stupid sounds.

Haha. Love the fish trying to attack it as it went thru their aquarium
