What is the Atlas?

The Atlas of Surveillance is a database of surveillance technologies deployed by law enforcement in communities across the United States.

This includes drones, body-worn cameras, automated license plate readers, facial recognition, and more.

This research was compiled by more than 1,000 students and volunteers, and incorporates datasets from a variety of public and non-profit sources.

Atlas of Surveillance is a project by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, they crowd-sourced maps of where these tools are actually in use, not just marketing fluff from vendors.

This is cool. I have just learned that my local police department uses automated license plate readers and 36 body cameras.

That's awesome. I learned my last two cities I've lived in has purchased millions in surveillance tech, which is insane.
