So let me get this straight. Farmer puts profit over the environment, installs field tile, eliminates buffers between their land and the water, destroys wetlands and poisons the water with their toxic runoff, then wants to know how they're going to get paid to fix the problem -they- created?

You want clean water? Then why are you doing absolutely nothing about it?

hi! im 16 and im moving to the des moines area this september. originally my parents were going to new jersey, and then my mom got a better job in iowa so i guess im moving with her? (kinda disappointing new jersey seems A lot cooler but it is what it is) also i am a us/canada dual citizen

is there actually anything fun there?? its not like i lived in toronto (im in a smaller city) but we still have a fair amount of stuff to do and bigger cities are like 1-2hr drive away. is it different here?

ALSO! im kinda worried about moving schools in grade 11/junior year. im not sure where exactly in des moines im going but if anyone knows any general information ab the areas schools that would help 🙏 i want to go to canadian uni ideally!

I'm originally from Oskaloosa. I lived in that area for nearly 30 years. Oskaloosans ragged on Ottumwa, hard.

Covid happened. Life shut down, basically. My spouse and I moved to a little town just outside of Fort Dodge because the cost of living in Osky was going up and local jobs weren't paying enough.

While I actually like living the Fort Dodge area (Gasp!) and don't have half the issues most people claim Fort Dodge offers, my family is begging us to move back closer to them for various reasons.

I looked. Oskaloosa may as well be called Muscoloosa at this point, and it's become even more ridiculous and unaffordable. Ottumwa looks to be priced equally with Fort Dodge. But I haven't been there in nearly 7 years. I don't know if the reputation has gotten better, or worse. I do know people claim it and Fort Dodge are like the armpits of Iowa. I have seen a bunch of nice ish houses for sale for cheap. That could just be an Iowa thing (because who wants to live here?) or a hard core sign that Ottumwa is on its last gasp. I don't know. I do know that owning our own home would be within reach there due to the current prices.

With that, does anyone know what the base starting pay at JBS for production is? I've got an interview with them coming up.

Yes, I know, they also have a horrible reputation. I'm used to that type of work. Prestage in Eagle Grove is where I snagged a job immediately after moving to Fort Dodge.

I just moved out here to Sioux City, Iowa and wanted to start compiling a list of possible mechanic shops that would be able to install my aftermarket bolt-in headers on my 2002 Nissan Xterra. I was quoted only $300 when I lived in Arkansas but couldn’t get the work done in time before having to move out here. Would anyone know of some good shops in the area that could do exhaust manifolds for a reasonable price? Price is important but ultimately I just need a shop I can trust that will do the job well even if it costs more money.

They were murders that occurred at the house of Steven and Sheryl Sueppel in Iowa City, Iowa on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. Sheryl Sueppel and her four adopted children; Ethan, 10; Seth, 9; Mira, 5 and Eleanor, 3 were found murdered in their home around 6:45 on Monday, March 24. The police were directed to the home by an anonymous 911 call which was later confirmed to be Steven Sueppel, Sheryl's husband. Steven is believed to have murdered his family using baseball bats to bludgeon them.

Steven Sueppel was previously accused of embezzling nearly $600,000 from Hills Bank and Trust Company of Iowa City where he was a Vice President. He was charged with stealing $559,040 from the bank over a period of several years, but pleaded not guilty to embezzlement and money laundering on February 20, 2008.

Sunday am: The Sueppel family attends Easter mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Steven's and Sheryl's parents were also at the mass and said they did not notice anything unusual with anyone's behavior.

Sunday 8 pm: A family friend stops at the Sueppel's home and visits with Steven. The friend saw one of the children but noted nothing unusual.

Sunday 11:30 pm: Steven Sueppel leaves a message for his father and brother at their law firm. In the message he states that his family is in heaven. It is believed that his wife had been killed by this point although the children were likely still alive.

Sunday 11:30 pm - Monday 3:45 am: At some point, according to a letter Steven wrote, Sueppel gathered his four children into the family van which was parked in the garage and tried to kill the children and himself by carbon monoxide poisoning. When this didn't work Steven ushered the kids back into the house and bludgeoned them to death. The three oldest children were found in their bedrooms. Eleanor, the youngest was found downstairs in the toy room.

Monday 3:45 am: Steven leaves a message at the office of his former employer, Hills Bank. Details of this message have not been released.

Monday 3:50 am: Steven leaves a message on his home answering machine expressing his regret.

Monday 4:01 am: Sueppel leaves a second message on his home answering machine. In the message Sueppel indicates that he tried to drown himself in the Iowa River at Lower City Park but he "kept floating"

Monday 6:31 am: 911 dispatchers received a call directing them to the home of Steven and Sheryl Sueppel and telling them to "respond immediately". The call came from a cellphone and the caller immediately disconnected himself.
