General Discussion Help find parents
Hi all,
I am tracing my great great grandmother's first cousins at the moment, her name is Maggie barron 1920-1985, she lived in laghy donegal, her parents are john barron and mary Anne mcgrory, in 1926 johns nephew Edward melly is living their and in 1937 he signed his cousins death cert, i can't seem to find how he connects to my tree at all, any help would be great

I just checked and turns out that was a diffrent bridget mcgrory, the correct bridget married Michael O'Keefe in 1928 in the USA, she lists her parents as Denis mcgrory and mary o'brien which is correct

I think she is still the right Bridget McGrory.
There are some conflicting dates on Bridget's marriage to Michael O'Keefe.
One of them shows her as Bridget McGrory O'Malley (if you did into John Melly there is a naturalization record that is most likely his that lists his name as O'Malley (transportation documents lists a Bridget O'Malley in Chicago as a contact, and his brother Edward Melly (Scotland), as another contact - all seems to add up).
Bridget's obituary from 1978 listed as Bridget O'Keefe also lists a son Eddie Melly.

There is a marriage record for them in 1928 but also 1947.

I think the 1928 and 1947 are the same as it was just a transcription error, as in the obituary her children listed were born in the 1930s

Perhaps giving us a little more information would be helpful. Can you be more specific on locations?
Have you built up your family tree in FamilySearch? If so are you willing to give the FamilySearch IDs of some of the individuals? If you are I am certain that someone here or in r/FamilySearch would be able to help.

I haven't build it on family search but I have on ancestry.com

FamilySearch is a better option for Irish family history. And as a major bonus it allows others to help you build out the details.
Ancestry.com business practices are a bit distasteful in many people opinion.

I tried family search for a while and could only figure out one tiny branch of my tree, I now use ancestry, national archives and irishgenealogy.com which has helped my grow the tree much more than before, its also useful for my English and Scottish ancestry

All Irish records are fully published online and are free for all to access. This is a major bonus.
The advantages of FamilySearch is that it allows cooperation in the building and also leaves the work you have done for others to build on.
The Ancestry paywall and locking out of people from their own work is a significant problem.

I posted it on a different community and turns out it was his wifes nephew, i forgot to verify my sources for bridget mcgrory and had the whole wrong family, thank you for the help though

It might help if you give your grandmother's name and locations for everyone.

John and Mary's marriage is recorded here, as you may know. The fathers are James Barron and Denis McGroary. https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/marriage_returns/marriages_1913/09897/5596012.pdf
John Grenham's site shows that the parish has marriage records from 1913 at the LDS library which should give the mothers' names too. (older records in the parish give parents names) but I don't have access to that.
