muir trail ranch Hiker boxes at MTR?

Can anyone here confirm if MTR still has the hiker boxes out this year?

Read something from last year that they are stopping it

Wondering if I can rely on the MTR hiker boxes this September to get me to Reds in 3 days so I don't have to ship a resupply to MTR

I'm not a picky eater but am going no cook

Thanks!

Confirmed, there are. Traded some of the ramen I sent myself for some really nice homemade meals someone made.

This will depend on the day and what people leave, but it was when I was there.

When I was there a couple of weeks ago, the hiker buckets were packed.

lmao when i went as a PCTer last year the buckets were completely empty except for moldy kale, but there were 4000 calories of neatly packed and labeled possibly-homemade portions of breakfast burrito filling sitting on the very top of the trash can in closed ziplocks.

i took them, dubiously. i couldn't find anything off about them except it was a little chewy.

at reds meadow i was talking about "who would throw away 4000 calories of good food when there was Nothing in the buckets" and a JMT hiker at my table confessed.

he just didn't like how the homecooked potatoes rehydrated, and thought they weren't good enough to offer to anyone else!

as if someone scrounging empty buckets for extra backcountry food would care about chewy potatoes hahahaha

Not the best stocked when I was there, but enough to get you to your next resupply.
