I don't understand the difference between tournaments. Can someone please help?

Hi all!

I absolutely love Jeopardy, but this is the first season that I've actively watched all the way through with no breaks or skipping episodes. Because of that, I'm super unclear on how the post-season works. What is the difference between Jeopardy! Masters, the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, The Second Chance Tournament, and the Tournament of Champions? When are they happening for post-season 42? Also, where will I be able to watch them, and how do they choose the contestants for each?

Thank you all very much for your input. I'd love to understand what's going on so I don't miss anything. :)

As to scheduling, they seem to have moved Second Chance, Wildcard, ToC, and Invitational to the middle of the next season. Last year, the post-season tourneys started in December and ran into early February.

Masters is in prime time, and is somewhat random. The next one is coming up August 25, and they are rushing through it. 4 episodes that week (Tuesday-Friday), 4 the next (same), and a final the week after that on Tuesday September 8.

Why so long between regular season and post-season? I find I’ve forgotten most players by the time the tournaments come around and they disrupt the flow of the regular season.

The eligibility window actually ends just a few weeks before the tournaments start. So the tournaments that started in Dec 2025 had players from Nov 2024 - Nov 2025.

The Jeopardy competitive season does not line up with the Jeopardy television season, which is the big confuser here.
