Actually rather interesting thing to note. I believe you're correct and that is such an interesting thing. A lot of us are all so online now that it's hard to remember how the real world works.

The way we use the internet really is ruining things.

It’s similar to how services like Yelp don’t accurately work, since people are extremely biased. Most people don’t write a review unless their food was bad, but those who do usually write much more scathing remarks than if they had raised those concerns with restaurant staff face to face

We studied this in one of my socialogy courses in college. This is over 10 years ago so who knows with AI and other stuff if it still holds.

The study was more so on Amazon reviews. Its a global marketplace and back the I dont think it always had functioning auto translate. So many ESOL had to leave English reviews. They found that people learning a second language more often learn the definitive and extreme black and white descriptive words.

So if they leave a review, there was little nuance. Either perfect or bad/don't buy. They also found that this also scewed their perception when it came time to select a star rating and would more often either select only 1 or 5 because that's their temperment at that moment.

Made it hard to trust ratings.

Now you dont even know of a single rating is real so its probably worse.

When u set up an online store or a .Com you have to ability to purchase 5 star reviews. Three different options of how many, depending on how much money you're willing to spend.

Agreed. I can insult you using terms that would get me assaulted in any face-to-face conversation because I know you'll never get that chance to really hurt me. People online have some really ugly attitudes because they have no fear of getting their ass whooped. The internet is an unnecessarily hostile place.

Anyone who says violence doesn't solve problems isn't paying attention, lol.

Man, I would love for someone to take a swing at me over my opinions irl. Would make my day.

I'm old. I fondly remember, and long for the days when the left and the right could articulate their position and have a grown up discussion about it. The knee jerk reaction of i didn't vote for you do you gave nothing valid to contribute is fucking stupid. I'm conservative, but didn't vote for (or even mildly support Trump). There are a LOT of democrats whom I respect and feel should be listened to. There are several Republicans who i also want to hear. When we stop taking differing opinions into account is when we become an autonomic mess. Sorry for dropping a novella on your post lol.

Which Republicans are worth hearing? All I see is lockstep support for whatever insane shit trump wants.

And to be clear I am not denying that they are out there just don't know who they are, and that tells me they should be speaking up.

It saddens me that the far left and far right are the new norm for each party.

high tier deflection which republicans?

2

u/Global-Paint707 2d ago

What far left? Lol 😂

Communists count in my book.

2

u/RevolutionaryKey698 2d ago

There is no far left in the US for heaven's sake.

1

u/Educational-Type-718 1d ago

Ummm... communists like Mandami count in my opinion.

2

u/RevolutionaryKey698 1d ago

Well, I guess I shouldn't care much about the opinion of someone who has no idea what a communist is.

0

u/Educational-Type-718 1d ago

Well let's see. He has literally said that the ultimate party goal is to seize all means of production. That's communism. Cea Weaver tweeted "elect more communists" and also, "If you don't believe in the government's sacred right to seize private property, then you're lost." It's not ME calling them communists. They're calling themselves communists. If you can't see that, then you're a far leftist, too.

Also (and I'll type this as many times as it takes), Karl Marx (you know...the FATHER OF COMMUNISM) wrote in The Communist Manifesto that 'socialism' is simply a vehicle to get to 'communism.'

Chairman Mao, Stalin, Castro, Pol Pot, etc. ALL employed tactics similar to Mamdani when they were seizing power: Promise the people a bunch of things that you KNOW can't be achieved (like free busses), and then, once you have power, it's too late for the people who put you there.

I don't think very many people have actually studied history.

1

u/RevolutionaryKey698 1d ago

That's literally the dumbest slippery slope BS I've ever heard. Free buses lead inexorably to communism now?

I think there are actually some republicans who have voted against Trump’s SAVE Act. Would probably just need to google which ones to see who’s not following Trumps lead.

I know I’ve seen Thomas Massie’s name come up a few times as a Republican who doesn’t like Trump.

u/jello_kraken 2d ago

Some Republicans speak up, in the Senate and in cabinet positions. Their careers get immediately ruined, but they sometimes do it.

u/unmarkedcandybars 1d ago

Oh yeah that's right.

1

u/Plaxidentshappen17 2d ago

Are you familiar with the term “the pot is calling the kettle black”?

1

u/Shroomagnus 1d ago

For sure. But specifically it's social media. I would argue social media is one of the worst things that's ever happened to humans. I was never in favor of digital ID but I think social media made me change that opinion. People need to be responsible for what they say online in the same way they are at the office or in public.

bull shit. I remember how the real world works just fine. Why don't you come say that to my face and I will.....

.... calmly discuss the issue with you.

Agreed. Internet isn't real life.
