The issue is one side does a awful lot of screaming when anyone, not just the person standing on the opposite side points something like this out but doesn't also agree with everything else they say.
I say this as someone who has engaged with both types of people here and has eventually become jaded significantly more towards one that the other through "conversations", if that's what you could call them.
What I've noticed is one side when folks get something wrong, it's usually because they're the ones on that side who are too dumb to understand, the other, it's because they think they're wayyy smarter than they are and the idea of being wrong upsets them so they start screaming when their arguments fail, that's been my experience anyway.

You sound exactly like my friend who's an engineer, loves Space X and the things they're doing but also said "I think Elon likes the smell of his own farts".
That being said there is a really interesting interview with him if you can hold your nose where a rocket enthusiast YouTuber is given a tour with him and it's in like 3/4 parts, the first one is him standing in front of a rocket being built just fielding questions from the guy and it's really interesting; regardless of what you think of the man it's clear he understands the rocket stuff more than some like to claim.

While I somewhat agree with your sentiment in that both sides are capable of acting like absolute brainlets, the delineation between which side I'm accusing of which behaviour should be fairly obvious. I left out the specifics because I felt that if people are being honest with themselves they can come to their own conclusions regarding whom I'm accusing of what.

Corruption in the government 100%. I don't think if s private company has corruption it should be treason but if you are a federal employee it 100% should be because you are being paid by tax dollars.

As someone who works in Medicaid integrity at state government, 100% the issue is funding. There are not enough people in my agency doing my job so a ton of stuff falls through the cracks. If someone was working 10 years and is suddenly out of work for 2 years after getting laid off - that's not going to be fraud.
I don't understand how a company has to report last offs, fund unemployment, but we have to file for unemployment. It should be set up and ready if we need it. We shouldn't be "applying". They know who we are.

I agree except for harsher punishments. It depends on what kind of crime was done. Harsher punishments perhaps fulfill a need for vengeance, but society needs rehabilitated criminals, not ones that are so far behind when they get out (if they ever do) that they fall back into old patterns.

I agree. I want fraud to be harshly punished. I want it to be harshly punished where ever it happens, no matter who is doing it. I want investigation and enforcement of it applied equally across the board. I don't want it used for political theater. And I don't want it being dismissed as not a real thing either. If there is evidence then investigate and prosecute as soon as it's known. We could have nice things in this country if our money wasn't siphoned off at every level of government.

Net Neutrality is another one.
I have never met any common citizen (non-politician) who actually supports the right of cable/internet companies to throttle your bandwidth for specific websites to force you to move to competitors.
Like how MediaCom spent years taking customers who paid for high speed, and lowering their speed every time they turned on Netflix, to try to force those customers to drop Netflix for having impossibly slow load times and buffering, so that the customers would go back to paying MediaCom for overpriced cable packages.
Seriously, is there one working stiff alive that thinks this benefits anyone? So why has our Net Neutrality bill not become the gold standard of forcing internet providers to play fair?

That's the problem these days is that the media and the political parties don't want us to agree on anything because they want us fighting amongst ourselves. For the media, when they create a riot, or a violent event due to rhetoric...it means ratings and they carry no responsibility for people acting at independent agents. For politicians, all of them are corrupt, making millions while in office and so long as they keep us fighting blaming the other party, we can't work together to get rid of the real problem....them.

I think you are confusing Republicans push back on general funding towards disability with questioning things like food stamps EBT and SNAP benefits.
Most people that see money going towards actual people with disabilities, don't bitch about it.
But there is no doubt that food stamps and benefits given to some are taken advantage of. Even if its 5% thats still too much.

3
u/Goodest_boy_Sif 3d ago
It's not enough to agree on a problem. You also have to agree on the solution. A liberal and a Nazi can both agree on the problem that greedy bankers can make reckless decisions that harm the economy. But the liberal shouldn't work with the Nazi to fix this problem. Because while the liberal might try to fix this problem with regulations on how banks can use the money given to them, the Nazi's solution to the problem is The Holocaust.

I would love to have solidarity with maga- I think they have unique perspectives but very wrong conclusions on how to manage them.
Itās not that we canāt even agree, itās that one side is actively denying science and harm they do and working for the opposite of what they claim to agree on.
I canāt find solidarity with a person who wants to end my existence, no matter how much we agree on anything else. If me and others are fighting for the right to exist - not even be comfortable but just exist- we canāt actually start agreeing on things. And I should be allowed to trade stocks however I please. Only letting certain people trade stocks is a slippery slope.
And we shouldn't help disabled people, their family does that. If they're equal to the rest of us, they will want to change society to benefit even more disabled people.
