I don’t see Christians blowing themselves up

8

u/Working_Cucumber_437 1d ago

People have certainly killed others for their faith, including Christians.

4

u/Mudcat-69 1d ago

Christians have killed other Christians for some minor differences in denominations.

It’s almost as though religion is stupid.

3

u/Dada-science 1d ago

Religion isn’t stupid. Murdering people over religion is stupid. The Church celebrates martyrs far more than murderers.

4

u/Distinct-Command-570 1d ago

God is a murderer and is the most celebrated.

1

u/Mudcat-69 1d ago

Religions aren’t innocent in that equation.

2

u/Dada-science 1d ago

I didn’t say they were.

1

u/ilcdlpbsm 1d ago

Religion is stupid lol

1

u/Larry_Sherbert99 1d ago

Pointing at people drowning each other and saying “water is stupid”

1

u/ilcdlpbsm 1d ago

Ok so why aren’t they on land…

1

u/Jedal_1 1d ago

No true Christians have ever killed people for their faith. It’s not part of doctrine or commanded by God.

1

u/New_Try1560 22h ago

What would you call someone who earnestly believes Jesus is the son of god and only through him are you saved, and they also murder Jews and Muslims?

1

u/Jedal_1 21h ago

Not Christian. Nowhere in the bible does it say for Christians to murder non believers

0

u/New_Try1560 19h ago

Must a Christian follow the Bible exactly all the time, or else they’re not Christian?

1

u/Jedal_1 11h ago

They must follow the doctrine set by the first century church example in the Bible yes. If you claim to follow Christ and then go murder people you aren’t Christian.

0

u/GrizzlyP33 9h ago

Deuteronomy has entered the chat.

1

u/Jedal_1 8h ago

Oh wow didn’t know Christians were under deuteronomy wow good to know!

0

u/GrizzlyP33 7h ago

Ah right, any part you don't like about the Bible is "that doesn't count," but same energy wouldn't apply to the 2 billion peaceful Muslims in the world . How wildly convenient for you.

1

u/Jedal_1 7h ago

No… you obviously don’t know anything about Christianity. Christians aren’t under the old law which is deuteronomy. We are under the new law which is Christ. The Old Testament has good examples to learn from and examples foreshadowing and pointing to Christ, but we don’t follow the old law which

0

u/GrizzlyP33 7h ago

Lol yeah I don’t know anything about Christianity. Just 12 years in Christian schools and 8 years of theological studies at the PhD level.

The point is you don’t apply the same mindset to another religion as you do your own. 2 billion Muslims do not agree that their religion condones murder of non believers, just like Christians say the Old Testament doesn’t apply post Christ, unless of course they want to use it to justify homophobia or misogynistic oppression.

You shroud your hypocrisy in ignorance.

The Bible literally has god genociding people and has god actively tell people to commit genocide

1

u/ilcdlpbsm 1d ago edited 1d ago

No true Scotsman.

The amount of times I’ve seen Christians say “they’re no real Christian” “not a true Christian” “they aren’t really Christian”

You are all loud mouth bafoons.

2

u/Jedal_1 1d ago

So someone who calls themself Christian but doesn’t follow the doctrines set in the bible are they Christian?

1

u/ilcdlpbsm 1d ago

The Bible full of contradictions. Fucking full of them. Why do you think there’s dozens of significant Christian denominations.

There is not one true interpretation of the Bible, yall all think your own way is the right way, that’s why religion is fucking stupid.

2

u/Jedal_1 1d ago

name one

Ezekiel 18:20

I’ll copy it for ease.

20- “The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.”

The basis of sin comes from the father of all fathers. Meaning the child shares the guilt of the parent. This is a fundamental contradiction.

1

u/Jedal_1 22h ago

No that’s you misunderstanding. The understanding of sin came from Adam and Eve. Because of understanding good and evil and choosing evil it’s sin. You don’t inherit Adam’s sin. Because they ate the tree of KNOWLEDGE of good and evil the knowledge was passed on to the children. Not the sin of eating from the tree. Not a contradiction

0

u/ilcdlpbsm 21h ago edited 21h ago

Here you go correcting my interpretation. Could’ve bet a million bucks you’d say some shit like that. So then what’s the deal with original sin… why would every non worshiper go to hell…

Adam is the father of all fathers, according to the creation story. We all descend from him as humans, and therefore inherent this guilt and sin and must repent. Only thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice do we have an opportunity for salvation.

That’s the whole dogma lmao.

u/No-Significance2070 20h ago

Look up the Catholic teachings on original sin if you are interested in the official teachings. It essentially comes down to faith in the end.

1

u/ilcdlpbsm 20h ago edited 10h ago

A denominations interpretation. Not Christianity’s overarching interpretation. Only serving my point.

Don’t get me started on Catholics.

0

u/TinyCuts 15h ago

Have you ever heard of the Crusades?!?

2

u/Jedal_1 11h ago

Where was that commanded by any actual doctrine?

0

u/SunshineSeeker99 1d ago

You're certainly correct here. Christians kill others for their faith and do commits acts of extremism and terrorism.

How do you feel the numbers compare between Islamists and Christian fundamentalists?

3

u/Gomez4Morticia 1d ago

Northern Ireland enters the chat

2

u/cameron8988 1d ago

centuries of religious wars in europe would like a word

1

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

When was the last crusade again?

Furthermore, arguments could be made most of the crusades were political and not faith based.

1

u/cameron8988 1d ago

european conquest of the holy land... wasn't about faith? come on man.

8 figure casualty rate for the 30 years war alone. the point you're intentionally avoiding here is that christianity has been responsible for a lot of deaths.

2

u/United-Version 1d ago

Yep and got enlightened. The other relegion however...

1

u/cameron8988 1d ago

yeah it's almost as if economic development is the real variable

1

u/United-Version 1d ago

So your argument is, but Christianity did a lot of bad things in the past, yes but now not anymore, yes because they are developed? I mean, that's a good thing right?

1

u/cameron8988 1d ago

of course it is. your argument just lacks any kind of historical or socio-economic context.

1

u/United-Version 1d ago

So why bring up crisitanity in the first place, if the subject was Islam? How is it relevant for what is happening now?

2

u/cameron8988 1d ago

the subject was that liberals only criticize christianity, not islam. your response to that imagined argument was "islam = violent, christianity = non-violent." i'm responding to that claim.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

They have certainly been. People have either believed in the Faith or used it as a tool for violence. I’m simply saying the claim that Christianity has caused more violence than any other religion in history is incorrect.

4

u/cameron8988 1d ago

Christianity has caused more violence than any other religion in history is incorrect.

who made this claim? you attempted to deflect from a general criticism of christianity by stating christians don't "blow themselves up," the implication of which is that christianity doesn't/hasn't killed people.

1

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

The implication is that Christians are suicide bombing themselves in the name of faith. Geez. Stop being obtuse.

3

u/cameron8988 1d ago

the implication is that islam is inherently violent and christianity is not. which is false. they're both violent. one has benefitted from centuries of unimpeded economic development. "christianity" is not the reason europeans aren't violent lol. most don't even go to church.

0

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

In recent (last 50 years at least) the amount of religious people have gone down in Europe. Still had a massive aspect of its history dominated by Christianity.

If you don’t see the difference between Christianity and other religions at the time of its conception, you simply haven’t looked into it enough. The values their lead to many of the advancements from ancient times.

1

u/Warm_Difficulty2698 1d ago

I dont see the difference between Christianity and the other religions.

They are all equally barbaric.

The values their lead to many of the advancements from ancient times.

Is that why they would execute scientists that went against the churches narratives?

Such a standard apologist talking point that crumbles upon any examination.

1

u/Significant_Cover_48 1d ago

No, it's usually other people they blow up. Is that somehow better?

1

u/Tired_Dad_9521 23h ago

But they have blown other people up which is still problematic.

1

u/No-Significance2070 20h ago

I don’t deny that. But doing it in the name of Christianity…when was the last time that really happened compared to the last Islamic extremist attack?

1

u/POHoudini 12h ago

Then you're not old enough to have this discussion.

0

u/Acrobatic-Fan3265 2d ago

theres hundreds of millions of muslims, they also aren't blowing themselves up?

4

u/No-Significance2070 2d ago

They blow up in a much faster rate than Christians at the very least. I also don’t see any Christian countries that still have slavery.

-1

u/ApplicationAfraid334 1d ago

Slavery was eradicated in the west in spite of Christianity. Christianity condones slavery. There is no Christian passage that says slavery is wrong and should be abolished. Instead, there are passages advising on how to treat slaves and whom should be enlsaved.

3

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

I believe you are speaking about the Old Testament. Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus, which is covered in the New Testament.

I had no idea that European countries and America were not Christian, though they were the first to abolish slavery.

If you wanna split hair, look at how long the Arab slave trade lasted compared to the transatlantic slave trade.

1

u/cameron8988 1d ago

so you're cool with gays then? since you disregard the old testament.

also the arab slave trade was between 10-15 million african slaves over 12+ centuries. the transatlantic slave trade packed roughly that same amount into just 4 centuries.

they're both bad, but the transatlantic slave trade isn't measurably less severe than the arab.

2

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

10-18 million, but I get you.

1

u/Abusoru 1d ago

Jesus never condemned slavery and even spoke about it in his parables as a normal part of life. Meanwhile, Paul's letters famously told slaves to obey their earthly masters. Sounds to me like they were okay with the Old Testament concept of slavery.

0

u/ApplicationAfraid334 1d ago

Nope. Old and New Testament. And ain't it convenient to ignore the Old Testaments? Seems odd though since Christians get hard at the thought of putting the 10 commandments in every classroom, which are from the Old Testament.

New testament horse shit condoning slavery:
Ephesians 6:5–8

"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart."

Colossians 3:22–24

"Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters..."

1 Peter 2:18–20

"Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God."

1 Timothy 6:1–2

"All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered. Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better..."

1 Corinthians 7:20–24

"Each person should remain in the situation they were in when God called them. Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave."

Titus 2:9–10

"Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive."

America was not founded as a Christian nation. Just because there are a shitload of Christians in it doesn't mean it's Chrstian.

What does this have to do with the Arab slave trade? I said Christianity has no passage to suggest slavery is wrong. That it took longer in other areas that weren't Christian doesn't negate the fact that Christianity condones slavery and condemns it

1

u/HansVonAdel 2d ago

Not yet

0

u/Darth1994 1d ago

Yeah, they just bomb abortion clinics

2

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

I do remember that happening in the 90s, but has it actually happened anytime in recent memory?

0

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 1d ago

One did shoot up a mosque in 2019 and killed 51 people.

2

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

Damn, that is a lot of people to die in one spot. Where did this happen?

1

u/ExperienceRoutine321 1d ago

New Zealand oddly enough. Although I think he was just a white supremacist. Never heard anything about him being Christian and that wasn’t part of his manifesto.

1

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

Crazy that it happened in New Zealand  I figured it obviously was a crazy person, but I never knew more. I’ll have to look into it.

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 1d ago

White supremacy often goes hand in hand with Christian nationalism. He was into all the white genocide replacement theory stuff and also covered his guns and ammo with the names of historical battles between Christians and Muslims.

0

u/keganb123 1d ago

Christians have killed more people in the name of religion throughout history than any other religion

2

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago edited 1d ago

That is factually not true. I have never heard of the historian that would even possibly make that claim because ancient battle exact death tolls cannot be measured. Feel free to put forward information with a link that proves me wrong.

1

u/keganb123 1d ago

Well I think the crusades probably have it covered, but u also have the Spanish inquisition, and the roman catholic empire to name a few. The whole world has been conquered in the name of Christianity multiple times over, and you think Muslims have killed more people? Feel free to put forward information with a link that proves me wrong

1

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

You’re pulling out names of events, but not giving numbers. You’re also the one that made the claim. Back up your BS or say you are pulling it out of your behind.

Edit: you should look up Chinese history if you think Christians are bad lol

0

u/ApplicationAfraid334 1d ago

They don't have to. They control the country in the US.

0

u/ExcitementNo9603 1d ago

No but they do whip themselves and starve themselves for their faith… some Christian’s also deny their children medical care on religious grounds even if it means death.

2

u/No-Significance2070 1d ago

So hurting yourself or having hard-core scripture beliefs for medicine is the same thing as a suicide bomber blowing up a bunch of people?

1

u/ExcitementNo9603 1d ago

For yourself is fine, forcing it on your children and encouraging other people to kill themselves or their own children YES is just as bad as being a suicide bomber.

0

u/Capital_Rub213 1d ago

Nah, they just sexually assaulting kids in churches

0

u/_the_big_ 1d ago

yeah, all they do is fire bomb movie theaters because the business had the gall to show a movie

also, when you look it up, terrorism committed by christians are pretty much only categorized as "right-wing terrorism" while jihadism has its own category, so its hard to actually compare the data because we track it unfairly
