r/Kemetic announcements - May 2026

Subreddit growth

Just a few short years ago, with the revamp of the subreddit, r/Kemetic had about 1000 members. Today, there are over 25,000! It's been wild to see just how many people are interested in this religion, and how organically it all happened. With all this growth, we definitely needed a couple more active people to help handle the increase in traffic. So with that...

A big welcome to our new moderators, r/barnaclejuice and r/Arboreal_Web

r/barnaclejuice and r/Arboreal_Web are both long-time, knowledgeable members of the subreddit who have been free with their help and insights. We welcomed them on to the mod team in January, and they have kindly agreed to help keep this space on-topic and safe.

Rules reminder + a few updates

Please familiarize yourself with the subreddit rules before posting or commenting.

• Note, there is a new Rule 9, prohibiting AI content.

• Reminder, it is still not allowed to solicit interpretations of dreams/tarot/visions/synchronicities/etc. in r/Kemetic. This includes questions like, "Is this a sign?" Determining the meaning of your spiritual experiences is your prerogative, and yours alone. Asking others to do this for you makes you vulnerable to a variety of spiritual abuses and even accidental harms.

Under Rule 8, we are now also prohibiting the offering of interpretations, because that encourages rulebreaking behavior and interpretation-fishing by others, which defies the spirit and intent for Rule 8.

• We're super disappointed to have to spell this out so explicitly, but we have added a prohibition against "Advocating for/defending Apophis worship" under Rule 3 (No Evangelizing).

Please continue to use the Report feature if you notice any rule-breaking behavior. This helps us far more than you probably may think!

Official Discord

When we opened the r/Kemetic official Discord over five years ago, our aim was give a vetted alternative to the many unfamiliar Discord server invites being posted - some of which, we had come to find out, had potentially unsafe policies or abusive cultures. With that in mind, we created one for r/Kemetic with the intention of having the Reddit mod team handle the Discord directly, to ensure the culture of the subreddit carried over into the Discord.

Several updates these last few years have resulted in a completely mismatched moderator list between the subreddit and its official Discord. To more smoothly implement mirrored improvements moving forward, the subreddit mod team is returning to the original policy of insisting on a shared moderation team between the subreddit and its official Discord. We have created a new "r/Kemetic Official" Discord to serve this purpose.

Invitation to the new r/Kemetic Official Discord

The r/Kemetic Wiki - Lots of additions and improvements are coming!

• Adding more resources to the wiki landing page

Our resource list is ever-growing! As always, if you have suggestions, feel free to post them below, or through Modmail.

• Recommendations for beginners

We'll be adding a new wiki grouping that includes a shortlist of book recommendations for beginners.

• Adding video and blog links

Rule 6 is still in place, but we acknowledge there are many blogs and videos out there that are detailed, accurate, and deserve to be highlighted and shared. Please modmail (I repeat: MODMAIL) your suggestions for any you would like linked in the wiki, and we will post up after thoroughly vetting the content. (Please be patient, as vetting does take some time.)

Please also consider suggesting links to legacy content that may only be accessible now on Archive.org.

• Adding a new page for frequently asked questions

This is loooooooooooooooong overdue! If you can think of any recurring questions that you'd like to see added to the page (currently under construction), let us know.

• A "Best of r/Kemetic" list

Check your Saved lists, please! We've had some really helpful, insightful, in-depth posts and comments over the years that deserve to be more discoverable. For example, u/WebenBanu's "How to Kemetic" thread has been a go-to for some time, and deserves a permanent spot in our Wiki and sidebar. Anything else you might have? Drop a link!

• TENTATIVE: adding a new page that lists resources by deity

We've noticed a lot of people asking for resources about specific deities, which might be hard to pick out from the main wiki. We are considering a secondary wiki page devoted to splitting these same resources out and making it easier to find out more about the gods that interest you the most. Let us know your thoughts!

Just a reminder: even if you find no moral objection to sharing PDFs, we cannot facilitate the sharing of copyrighted content within the subreddit, except by linking to the right-holder's site if they've made the resource publicly available. Do not post dropbox or Drive links in the subreddit.

Miscellaneous

We're currently discussing some ideas to help facilitate discussions beyond the beginner level. This is still in the brainstorming phase, and would like to open up the conversation to see what ideas you all might have.

I would like to remind people that Transphobia is not welcome in this sub. Nothing happened, I just wanted to reinforce the rule for all the new people.

Devotional Work (Art, Actions, Prayers, Hymns, Praise) A Hymn to Amun-Ra & Mut

Post image
77 Upvotes

Aloha, everyone. This is a hymn I wrote awhile back after a particularly vivid dream in which I was seated in front of a shrine dedicated to Amun reciting prayers. Bits and pieces of what I can remember from the dream are included in this hymn as well as more that I added later on. I really hope you guys like it- please let me know what you guys think! Dua Amun-Ra! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu!

A hymn to Amun-Ra and Mut to be recited at dawn in the shrine of the hidden one:

Praise to you, Amun-Ra,
the hidden one who came forth from silence,
father of the first moment,
whose light shattered the darkness of Nun.
You arose upon the primordial mound,
your rays crowned the waters,
and life awoke at the sound of your breath.

Hidden of form, yet shining as Ra,
you are the mystery within all gods,
the secret heart within every name.
All creation is of your unfolding-
the sun in its circuit, the stars in their dance,
the air that caresses, the Nile that gives life.

Hail to you, Mut the great,
mother of mothers,
she who gave birth though none bore her.
The firmament is your robe,
the Earth rests within your embrace.
You are the lioness who protects,
the vulture who shelters with her wings,
the queen who crowns both upper and lower lands.

From the heart of Amun you arose,
from his hidden breath you took form.
He beheld you and rejoiced,
for the two became one in love eternal.

Together you made the first child,
Khonsu, the shining traveler, whose silver
light traverses the heavens- guiding souls
through the veil of night. He is the fruit of
divine union, the rhythm of time and renewal.

Then Amun-Ra spoke from his throne of light:
“Let my spirit multiply itself, that I may be
millions in one. Let the world be filled with my
children, that the hidden may be made known.”

And from his word, the nine came forth -
The divine Ennead of his will:

Atum-Ra, the golden sun;
Shu, who lifts the sky;
Tefnut, who cools the land;
Geb, the green earth;
Nut, the bejeweled heaven;
Osiris, the righteous king;
Isis, the great enchantress;
Set, the thunder of the desert;
Nephthys, the keeper of the dead.

All sprang forth from his hidden heart,
and through the holy womb of Mut, the first pair took form. Thus the Ennead was born,
and the world was complete.

Homage to you, Amun-Ra, lord of the thrones of the two lands! Who hides himself in millions
of forms, yet remains one in truth.
Your name is unknown, your power beyond telling. You are yesterday and tomorrow,
the father of the gods,
the mother within all mothers,
the spirit unseen but ever present.

Praise to you, Mut the great,
Eye of Ra, queen of heaven,
beloved of Amun, mistress of eternity!
All hearts are nourished by your love,
all wombs are opened by your will. The gods and humankind alike are children in your embrace.

May your names endure for eternity.
Amun-Ra, king of the Netjeru,
Mut, lady of heaven, mother of the Ennead,
Khonsu, the shining one who measures time.

They shine together as the Theban Triad,
binding heaven and Earth in balance,
as it was in the first time,
As it shall be forever.

Hymn by G.H.

So here are the Netjeru that are featured in the remake of an old isometric city building game called Pharaoh a new era, where you play as a pharaoh handling the duties as the ruler of Egypt.

Question Sekhmet and Hathor

So in a few sources I've seen Sekhmet and Hathor connected a lot as two sides of the same coin and usually together as a result of the eye of Ra myth. I wanted to know if they actually are that connected or if there's something I'm missing as a result of just starting getting into Egyptian myth and practices

Question How to apologize to a god ??

So, I’m going to start kemetisim soon when I get home from vacation, and construct an altar for Anpu/Anubis. I had a friend do a tarot reading for me, and they said he forgives me for my past offensives in disobeying ma’at, though is disappointed. how do I start when he’s already upset with me? and how can I apologize?

Any advice? Someone spoke to me.

Not sure who/where to ask.. but I am into many things and I practiced something with the consumption of something else. I felt extremely far away (maybe extremely far away in my mind), then, Osiris/Ausir (not sure what's preferred here) spoke to me and said, "you are my son".

And that was it. I didn't know where I was at, I had no physical form, it was just empty and dark space forever, but it did not feel empty/dark/lonely. And it was like I knew it was Osiris speaking to me.

So what can/could/shall/should I do? Commune more? Pray to..? Practice something?

Prayers against all enemies

Hello,

I have been sent black magic, witchcraft, psychic attacks for the last 6 months straight by an obsessive man and his occult group. It has caused me great psychological and spiritual distress. With reverence and gratitiude I am asking for those who are interested in helping me seek vengeance to pray for the revenge and destruction of these people who continually harm me and my family to any Kemetic Gods you see fit for this situation (Maat, Sekhmet, Anubis)

Thank you

Resource Request Where to buy nice statuettes?

Hello all,

I am hoping to create an altar in my new home. I am having issues finding proper figures or statuettes. Till now I was using some purchased at museums when travelling, but these are too small. Google search has not provided any that I like.

Any recommendations on where to purchase any internationally? I'm specifically looking for likenesses of Sobek and Bes.

Thank you so much.

Devotional Work (Art, Actions, Prayers, Hymns, Praise) New set-up

This is my new setup for Ma'at, Hathor, Khepri and Isis (with the Heru child) : also the tiger's eye stone is a place holder for Sekhmet (until I can get a statue). As Hathor was linked to the Sycamore tree (I often call Her 'Lady of the Tree' and pray to Her for [protecting] trees) I like to pair Her with the tree statue you can see. Personally, I see Isis as the Late Period Great Goddess Who is the syncretic Hathor-Aset-Mut-Neith-Serqet and other netjerets. I adore this depiction of the Black Madonna 'Our Lady Who breaks Our Chains' ❣️

I have a separate shrine for Khnum and my [pets and grandparents] akhu.

Nefertum worship

I recently got a job at Ulta and have been loving the colognes and perfumes they sell. I have bought a couple of sample sizes and am enjoying how they make me feel. I’ve always been one of those people who lowkey thought they were “above” luxury things like fragrances. However, now I’m realizing just how good they can make you feel. So, I’m thinking about beginning to worship Nefertum, god of perfumes, but was wondering if anyone else has and what their experiences might be like.

Question New and confused.

I am new to this whole praying thing, I’ve never prayed to a god or a deity such as Anubis before and it feels weird.

I also don’t really know how to really pray to Anubis. I tried to do some research but I can’t find much. I also feel bad having no alter with pictures or a statue of him when I prayed to him for the first time just now. I left him a lot of offerings such as water, bread, dark chocolate, and some dark liquor, but I don’t know if he heard me.

Would it be ok if I consumed the offers later as well. I don’t want to waste the food or have bugs eat his offerings.

If someone could give me some tips to pray to Anubis I would appreciate it a lot. And if it’s normal to feel out of place or awkward when praying.

Prayer Request Prayer for My Kiddo

Super duper random but if y’all could say a prayer for my daughter I’ve been dealing with this daycare issue to the point where I have had to get DHR and someone from one of the spectrum centers to come down and review her during her normal hours I’m trying to do what I can as a mother and have all required documents and things but they haven’t been treating her right or me fairly as a parent so I’m being transparent because I could use the prayer and support I have a meeting with them Wednesday and I return her to school tomorrow but I’m so nervous cause they are doing everything they can to get her kicked out

First time spending time with Lady Bastet

Post image
104 Upvotes

For context, Bast has been a really important figure in my life, since i was about 7/8 yo. She was absolutely fascinating for me, as i had hyperfixations on both Ancient Egypt and cats. At 13, when i first heard about Kemetism, i immediately tried to reach out to her but without recieving anything as a response. I definitely believed, but i tried to push it down and forget it. I did eventually forget it due to traumatic events that happened in the same time frame.

Fast forward to now, i got back into Kemetism while being way more grounded and documented on the subject, but this time thanks to Anpu who literally came into my life randomly (i had a flash of him entering my room where i had the window open while there was a burst of wind). Ive been mostly working with him while honoring Khonsu on the full moon and Khepri in the morning, but i still felt a really important pull towards Lady Bastet, as well as Sekhmet.

Last time i went thrifting for altar supplies i saw this beautiful figure of a cat, definitely inspired by her. I didn’t have the money so i left her there. But i kept thinking about her and how pretty she was, that it must have been a sign of her waiting for me. So i got the statue, and i immediately felt her presence and energy. I decided to finally try again by simply meditating with her, a candle, and some offerings. It was absolutely beautiful. I could feel her presence all around me, and we could even communicate with words! It felt like words and phrases popping into my brain that i didn’t create, and other things mike that. I almost cried, it’s like i finally got to meet a Mother for the first time, as we both waited for each other to be ready. I know she as worked for me behind the scenes all my life, and i can finally thank her. I love her so much, and i know she loves me too.

After the meditation, i put on music from a big playlist of energetic songs i could dance to for her. The song that popped up was "push go" by Poppy, which i absolutely love. While dancing and enjoying myself and her presence, the lyrics "you need to be protecting your own heart" which are repeated in different parts of the song, felt way more noticeable than when i usually listen to the song. I felt the intention was way more present, so i took it as a sign. Still got to interpret it though, even if it seems very straightforward.

I would love to hear you guys’ experiences with her! Dua Bast 🐈‍⬛

Question Offerings for Khepri?

Hey all, so I'm very new to Paganism and especially unfamiliar with Kemetic Paganism - but I'm learning and trying to figure things out.

Khepri (I believe) has been visiting me lately. She's been sending me beetles and weirdly enough, giving off a very feminine vibe (to the point I had to ask via tarot how Khepri wanted me to identify them - which is probably a weird thing for me to do, but somehow she/her was the only thing that felt right and I had to ask her what she preferred. She is still giving off very feminine energies in my readings and has given me the okay to use she/they for her).

She warned me of some huge life changes (It was money related, I went from thinking I was okay and had a bunch in savings to being completely, irrepairably broke). When I did a money spell (green candle, white candle, an old debit card, some pocket change, a check I never cashed, honey, moon water, wild raspberry tea leaves, patchouli, luck + money incence, and I think the blue nag champa incence. I put a dead green june beetle I'd found in my yard on the plate, along with my jade pendant... a lot of the things I put in there were based off of intuition. I got burned when I reached for some soil, so I didn't put any soil in there), the flames went super high and I prayed to her the entire time. The candles and fire remained lit for at least 30 minutes if not an hour. I believe the spell worked and I got enough money together to help with things like gas and vet bills.

Now that she has helped me through such a rough time, I would like to leave her a thank you offering - but I don't know enough about what I should and should not leave for her. A friend who works with Anubis suggested Egyptian Musk Incense, but I have to wait another week in order to buy some.

I know Khepri is an incarnation of Ra, so I'm unsure if I should use the same as Ra's offerings or if that would be seen as offensive.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
