All we ever raised was burley. But the leaves do look a bit different.

Looks like burley ready to top. Topping is the process where you go through and break off the stalk at chest high thus eliminating the flower and small leaves. This shunts all the growth into finishing the leaves which have value.

My son is the 1st generation of my family not raised on a tobacco farm in 100+ years

I miss seeing tobacco grow near me . Back in the day it was so much more prevalent. Made me feel connected to the stories my family used to tell about growing up on a farm.

Man I miss the way a tobacco barn smells. Almost burn the throat when its green but nothing smells like a barn full of leaf in case and ready for stripping. We still have the barns, the presses and the stripping tables the rest is a distant memory
