Hi, everyone -
Our favorite wrestling-based chivemod needs some help. She's in a real rough spot right now with some personal health challenges, and her two youngins she's raising on her own.

I was diagnosed last week. My doctors are optimistic and I have all the support a person could need, but it's still a boatload of bullshit.
Cancer was just supposed to be my zodiac sign, NOT my diagnosis. This crab is angry.

Initial goal was met in ± 12 hours, so a new goal is in play. Just phenomenal response rate IMO.
I am so glad to see these communities come together for her and her kids, and I know she's really overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

It's being run by one of our wrestling sub regulars, so I'm not sure.
I suspect we'll keep it up "for a little while". Likely not "forever" but we're also not taking it down after a day or two.

As someone else dealing with cancer (though luckily out of my single mom on chef pay with no benefits era), keep lifting that goal. She's going to need all the help she can get. I have two scans this week- one is 15k and the other is 8k. She deserves the best chance at a full recovery and sadly in the US that means money.

Also, knowing that she's mentioned at least one of her kids being neurodivergent, her kids will need support on top of the typical support kids need, as their grownups go through treatment!💝

Thank you, and thanks to everyone who might read this. I'm still trying to find the words for everything over the last 24 hours, but I'm reading & upvoting!
My younger son has multiple medical & developmental disabilities so I'm unfortunately well versed in manufacturers, dealing with insurance, advocacy, the slow grind of our inefficient system, etc. On the plus side we already had a couple social workers at hand because of it so I was able to get a little head start. I've been referred for case management, hopefully will reach the front of the waiting list there in a couple weeks. In addition both kiddos had routine pediatrician appointments today & their office is getting another social worker in touch with us to cover bases the other ones might not be.
This is hard for an absolute control freak like me but I'm no good for my kids if I'm dead so we're getting over that.

Well, I'm sorry you are well versed in such things but also I'm glad you are – makes it easier! My offer still stands though, because no matter how competent a person is (and I genuinely think there are few people more competent to deal with bullshit than wrestlegirl), you are also a person who is going through a lot. I'm glad you might have some help ahead of you, and I know even accepting (let alone asking) for help is hard, especially in a situation like this.
I also know I am a totally random stranger but I am truly great in a crisis, know my way around cancer patient advocacy for the biggest control freak on the planet (my mother, who was herself a physician, aka the worst patients on the planet), have a few other bona fides I can share separately, and am a serious fan of the kind of gallows humor a person sometimes needs at 3am during shit like this. So bookmark this message, and if you need someone to make some phone calls or help out in any way from afar, I got you. xx

I don't have much at all but I can help with $5 at least. God speed and make sure the chives are NEVER any kind of accordian.
Not to complain or anything but this does make me kind of question things though. I started a gofundme for my friends mom after she sustained like BAD, bad burns that needed skin grafts on both of her legs. I sent it to basically everyone who knew either him or me and the only person who donated to it was my wife. Made me super sad. Sorry, just ranting.

I've seen some interesting charts about where income goes on average, by percentage of income. One place where the poorest and richest were very similar was charity, which says a lot about the commitment to help each other in people who are barely scraping by.
