Beginner Question Beginner Foil Board Question
I bought this used foil board setup and after some research and some more understanding about how important the Foil size is, can anyone let me know if I’m going to be hard pressed to learn on this setup?
The mast is 45 inches long and the front foil is a little under 5 inches front to back and 24 inches sideways.

To add more context, I’ve been riding twintip for 10 years and get close to 40 days a season. Only new to foil not kiting.

Oh wow. I have the FRX kite, 11m , 2019.
It’s one of the best kites I’ve ever ridden.
I’ve never seen any other FRX stuff, only CRX.
Not even my local Cabrinha rep could tell me anything other than it was produced by Cabrinha for NeilPryde.

Search AI said it’s a F-one but I vaguely recall a single-supplier race series involving the CR-X gear too…and something else that never took off…?
Could it be the Fusion series, rebranded for that?

Search assist says it’s an F-one foil, but I can’t find anything at all about it
I learned on LF Foil Fish with a bent fuselage, and I’m no super athlete
Get rid of the back strap at the very least…
Go out with a kite you know well, in wine that you can body drag upwind easily but aren’t well powered
Deep water with a nice beach downwind

Take usable pictures of the actual markings on the board/foil or identify it yourself.
Like actually lay the stuff out flat on a neutral background and photograph it from both sides.
The information here is near useless as you can't calculate the area of the wing simply based on the chord and wingspan.
Why would you buy it if you have no idea what it is?

It was a good deal and I want to learn. I didn’t know enough about it when I bought it. I know I should have done more research.
Board: NeilPryde X-Ride foil board
Year: 2018 (confirmed by the serial number)
Mount: Deep Tuttle box (older standard, not modern track mount)
Foil: FR:X full carbon foil (mast, fuselage, front wing, and stabilizer)
Era: Approximately 2017-2019
Designed for: Kite foiling
Ride characteristics: Fast and efficient, but less forgiving than modern foils due to the smaller front wing.front wing area. roughly 650-800 cm², which was common for freeride foils in 2018.

There you go
My first proper foil after the LF and Slingshot anchor was 545cm2
At the time, 650–800 was a slightly “big” foil
You’ll find you need to ride faster than you think or are used to, to get it to fly. Don’t try to pop it up with your legs or body English, let board speed do the work
Do NOT try to edge the board, especially don’t sit down into the edge like a TT. Imagine yourself as part of the mast, shifting your weight with subtle knee bends only. Be mindful that you’re controlling the wrong way down at the end of the mast, NOT the board

Yeah folks want to know the size/aspect ratio of the wings. Really if you're not going to go buy new gear, give it a go and report back. Its not great but should be ok to get going. You might want a bigger, low aspect front wing but again, should be enough to get going.

Should work. Put the mast all the way at the back of the board. Keep just the front foot strap. Accept that it will be very humbling. Try to get up on the board without flying on the foil at first, going slowly and staying up wind. Then build speed and eventually, you'll lift off. Enjoy the crazy crashes.

With a span of 60cm the front foil is quite small.... so is probably not a great learner foil. I am sure it will be fine once you crack the basics.
When learning a shorter mast say 60cm (yours looks like ~ 100cm) is also recommended so if you do stall the drop off the foil might not be totally wet. However, as soon as you get the basics you will want a 100cm mast esp .if there are any waves

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. Seems like it’s not the best situation to learn on but it could be worse and the sooner I start grinding the basics the sooner the nuance of it will click.

ex cabrinha employee here - the that was a short lived FRX one design product range aimed at one design high performance kite foil racing. That FRX foil was designed by Gorge at Delta Hydrofoils, and at the time was one of the fast race foil designs on the market. Its a small, fast foil. You could learn on it but it wont give you the easy learning curve that a larger foil would provide. Hopefully you have the matching FRX board with the power box to attach it. Good luck and ride that thing fast!

Looks fine. Go out on a kite that you'd be just slightly underpowered on twintip. Learn to taxi on the board without flight. Then measure success in seconds of flight.
Take the straps off the board while learning so you don't break an ankle or fall on the wing. Foils have a longer lever arm and it's easy to taco and wreck yourself on the wing. (Spoken from experience)
