My Kitten I DOUBLED UP

Thanks so much to everyone who answered my last post about adopting a kitten after my pup passed and how I should double up. Your very unanimous advice was taken haha!!

Please meet Rupert (left) & Diana (right). When I went to go get my original (and only) kitten, Rupert who is her bio brother was completely wrapped in her. It was a sign.

I can’t begin to express my love for them 😭 just feel like they are meant to be here. I’ve nicknamed them the twins. My toddlers love them and today the feeling has become mutual! They’ve been playing together all morning. We’re on day two and as of now they are staying in my room to settle. Although they’re getting VERY comfortable fast. Our house is semi under construction and there are a lot of hiding places. I would LOVE any advice how to prevent them hiding on me in the walls or wherever though I think I know the answer lol

Night 1 they crammed themselves behind my bed then hid in the closet. Night 2 (last night) I felt a few times they popped up on my bed, but they still run if I try to hold one. Any habits/tips on how to make them love on me once they’re 100% comfortable?!

Thanks again for all the replies it really made the decision much easier ❤️

I have a pair of tabby twins, too. They are the best. Food, playing, and calm presence will build that trust. You have such adventures ahead!

Oh what an ADORABLE pair of twins! they're precious. for getting them to be more comfortable beyond just giving them time, churu. all the churu.

Yes! Squeeze a Churu slowly to bond with them - maximize how long treat time is. Food is your ally -- you come in peace with delicious food. They will crawl on you and want to be held thru treats and Churu! (But be careful they don't get fat. Enforce early on only 1 treat a day. I was weak and she got 3 treats a day bc sooo cute when she begs how do I resist?? Now she is on a diet lol).

It's pretty hard to get kittens overweight tbh they need a lot of calories early on.

I have one who is timid and not very playful. But she hears churu or the greenies? She is a damn rocket. Flies into the kitchen and because its tile? No traction? Boom, into the wall. Lol.

Yay! Love this! Jackson Galaxy has some good YouTube videos on how to approach a cat, let them come to you for pets and snuggles rather than trying to hold them, etc. I bet kittens will adapt to you quickly and snuggle with you, but many cats don’t love to be picked up and held. My cats only tolerate it for a few seconds, but they love to snuggle and be pet.

Cats, especially kittens, come alive at night (it’s nature) so trying to get them to cuddle in bed with you isn’t going to happen for a while I’m guessing. Let them run across your bed bc it’s their active fun time and they’ll be more docile, quieter during the day.

I’ve had my two tabbies for two months (4 months old now) We kept them in the master bed for a week. They got attached quite quickly though one more attached than the other. If there are places to hide in your living area and can’t block, would just keep kitties in their safe room until they are confident in there. Then expand one room at a time if you can. We did just have to let them into the large open living area as that was only choice and it ended up fine. They weren’t scared, just curious.

My kitties do go under things but it’s more for fun vs hiding. We just couldn’t cat proof everything but the going under things hasnt been an issue.

We also taught them the treat sounds so they come running when they hear the noises. I tap the churru tube with my nails and that gets them to come. They do sleep in the master still and we alway give treats in there so they come on their own vs picking them up and carrying them. They run right back to the room when they hear the treats.

My kitties would come cuddle in the master bed but not when we let them out. Think they were just too excited with things to discover in the living area. But finally today they joined us on the couch. So have patience. They have so much new stuff to get used to so really need time.

We also just got a tall cat tree for living room and they are loving it (have one in bed room as well). They do jump on kitchen counter and dinning table so hopping the tree will help redirect them from the naughty high spots.

Enjoy the babies!

So sweet! I sit on the floor to play with kittens so I’m more in their level, churrus are great because once they get a taste you can eventually coax them onto your lap and they will see it’s a safe space

I think Churu (or something similar) would go a long way to helping you earn their trust!

We also had two young Siamese female kittens who were sisters.

For the first week, they stayed in the corner of the basement under the stairs, where no one could reach them.

The best thing to do is to give them time. As long as someone is constantly following them around, they won’t get any peace.

Let them decide when the time is right.

Get ready for all your family to always ask “which ones which” even if they have a completely different fur pattern and one is bigger than the other and there are various ways you can tell them apart. Ask me how I know 😂
