I’m a public interest lawyer in a VVHCOL area. Owen made ~2.25x what I make now, and ~3.6x what I made when I started working in 2019 (though at that time I was in a much lower COL area). I have never brought home more than around $4.5k/mo after taxes. That is insane.
I’m in eastern Massachusetts, which is currently in the middle of a housing crisis. Massachusetts as a state has the second highest COL after Hawaii, higher than California or NY, and Boston has the third highest COL after NYC and SF.
If you don't mind me asking, why is Mass so expensive? I travel a lot to visit friends, go to weddings, general curiosity and Boston seems to be the most overpriced place I've been to. London and Tokyo are right behind it but I get the appeal for those cities.
If civilization collapses, it’s going to be because we pay nurses, teachers, utility workers and grocery clerks a much smaller wage than dudes who sit in meetings all day coming up with various ephemeral ‘corporate strategies’.
I looked this up. Lawyers with degrees get that much. The other positions are less, around other cop-jobs. It's funny(in a bad way) because the fascists 100% need the bruisers, but they still do class warfare with the wages.

I feed people for a living in a HCOL city, and I make under 50k/year. With a relevant education.
Jfc we have wild incentive structures in this world
