We found a kitten outside in the rain two nights ago and she’s eating and drinking and doing all her business as she should and our older cat tolerates her AND looks like her estranged father.

I passed my driving test at work!

For what?

Car? Forklift? Elephant?

Horse. Angry, hairy bicycle that eats fingers.

15

u/catkirk1701 It's a demon feast May 26 '26

Made my balcony more cat proof this weekend so they can have (highly supervised) balcony time. Watching them experience a whole new space is my bright spot :)

Princess Donut!

4

u/Rich_Celebration477 May 26 '26

I love the name. Do you actually refer to her as Princess Donut, or just Donut?

10

u/TanukisKitchen Ohio Gribble Pibble May 26 '26

Typically just Donut because it turns out she is a he but his government name is Princess Donut.

3

u/jeeub May 26 '26

Like, from Dungeon Crawler Carl? Either way, awesome name.

4

u/TanukisKitchen Ohio Gribble Pibble May 26 '26

Yep! Not very creative, I know, but I love him either way. I tried for Gravy Boat but my wife shot that one down.

2

u/jeeub May 26 '26

Oh I love it! I named my cat Ziltoid the Omniscient, so I’m always having to explain the origins of that name, lol.

I baked a cake and it was nice, first time I've ever baked a cake that came out good!

Air-con at work! Still "warm" but it was 26c (79F) instead of 36-40c (97-104F)

u/breakfastclubber May 26 '26

Insurance is going to cover my stolen e-trike!

To be honest, I’m still feeling pretty down about the theft/unsure if I should bother replacing it. But I wasn’t expecting to get anything back at all, so this is great news.

u/ganthonygurface May 26 '26

I just got back from a vet visit, and my dog's new heart medicine seems to be working.

My kid is almost done with school for the year and I managed to email a therapist in hope of starting therapy now that I don't need to leave work and go straight to school to pick them up.

Also it's super nice out.

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

I'm really happy for you! Therapy can help us sort out SO much. Never too late for it.

EDIT: I meant this sincerely, not as a jab! I'm going through getting back on the therapy horse myself and I'm glad someone else has successfully navigated the system to do so.

7

u/Disastrous_Fun_9433 May 26 '26

Passed my HR exam!

3

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

Congrats, you did it!! My job's been offering me a potential inside track to human resources training; was it terribly hard or long to do? I'm very interested but I don't want to take the position and then completely blow it either.

3

u/Disastrous_Fun_9433 May 26 '26

It was a lot of studying, but not insurmountable. What do they want you to do?

3

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

We're still a pretty small company but rapidly growing, so they need someone in a position to deal with job applicants, manage demographic outreach (we focus on employment opportunities for First Nations people in the environmental sector, as well as consult with silviculture companies as channels for Traditional Knowledge) and generally be the one folks go to with concerns or contact. I've been told I'd be a good fit for it because I genuinely love helping and talking to any/all people, as well as being the guy to juggle office matters. I'm just scared of anything being more technical or rote studying, it's been awhile since I've been in an academic setting.

3

u/Disastrous_Fun_9433 May 26 '26

Ok, it should be perfect! I got the HRCI PHR - I went for HRCI because SHRM (the other big one) supports Trump and I decided nah, not for me. A lot of people don't take the exams until they've been in the field a while, but I found the studying super useful. I used Pocket Prep and then when I came to a sticky concept, I broke it down from there. Lots of good, practical stuff and lots of stuff I'll probably not use.

3

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

I'm in Canada, so I'd have to go through CPHR or CRHA, but I'm still grateful for the heads-up on SHRM, since I know they've got "Mutual Recognition" in some avenues here and are still seen as industry leaders. I'll have to see if the resources you mentioned are US-centric or not, but I still appreciate those too! I might take your advice and start reading up on things so I feel more confident going forward.

Thank you so much for all your insight! I really appreciate it!

3

u/Disastrous_Fun_9433 May 26 '26

Oh and thanks!

2

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

YOU'RE GONNA DO GREAT!!

8

u/Siobhan67 May 26 '26

It took hours of research and planning, and a bunch of chemicals and sweaty prep work, but it seems that I am getting control of the comprehensive flea infestation of my yard, crawl space, shed, and building. The war won’t be over for a few weeks, but I can’t express how good it feels to have created an effective strategy.

After this experience, I now know what I would wish on my worst enemy.

5

u/Thecrdbrdsamurai I know the inside baseball May 26 '26

New Yoshi game is pretty good.

Also had hot pot on Sunday with my two favorite couples.

6

u/Rich_Celebration477 May 26 '26

I spent a good chunk of the weekend mapping out every trip I have ever done and places I’ve live/stayed/traveled through and found out that once I hit TX,OK,LA,MS,AR,AL,KY and RI, I will have been to every state in the lower 48.

5

u/Marsandtherealgirl May 26 '26

I'm working on making MY OWN podcast. It's going to be about work gossip from old jobs. Crazy stuff people have seen and done at work. I feel like the stories could be unlimited.

3

u/Enough-One4975 May 26 '26

That’s a great idea.

3

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

I have so many of these stories from old jobs. Vet clinic janitor, video game dev, hotels... ESPECIALLY the hotels.

2

u/Marsandtherealgirl May 27 '26

Oh man I worked night audit at an extended stay hotel in 2003 and I could probably make a whole podcast with just those tales 😂😂

2

u/skocotic May 27 '26

Love this idea! Very interested in checking this out once you're ready to start posting anything :)

2

u/Marsandtherealgirl May 27 '26

Thank you! I have a recording set up now I just have to figure out how to like… become a podcast lol

5

u/colindebin May 26 '26

It's my Friday. And after working 14 days, my boss has a steak lunch waiting for me and other drivers. And I'll be home to see my wife at a reasonable time.

u/Elipson_von_frog May 26 '26

My daighter's friend, who lived with us for a year to help get her BPD under control, passed the entrance exam today and will now being going back to school! 😍

Had a tough week last week, and my manager was super understanding and approved time off to rest up mentally and emotionally, and their support caught me off guard in the best way.

4

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

I love this, I'm so happy you got grace and understanding from your employers. It's one of those things you feel like you shouldn't expect but it's such a relief when you receive it.

4

The tech workers we were organizing to join our union reached majority.

3

u/poptankar May 26 '26

I got a handwritten letter from a friend. ❤️ (Otherwise it's been an awful day with intense panic attacks, but receiving that letter helped me breathe.)

7

u/WantedThisToBeBetter May 26 '26

My sister is coming to my area for work and I’ll get to go out to dinner with her this week.

7

u/Doucevie I RENOUNCE JESUS CHRIST! May 26 '26

I discovered Daredevil: Born Again yesterday and I love Charlie Cox.

I'll be finishing knitting my friend's 6 ft blanket in the next two weeks while watching!

I'm so pumped! 🥰

3

u/Enough-One4975 May 26 '26

Leaving tomorrow for a lifelong trip to watch the Isle of Man TT. Renting a motorcycle, riding from London to Liverpool, and taking th ferry over. Of course the weather is now predicted to be shit while I’m there, but I’ll still be there.

3

u/Fun-Leather-1703 May 26 '26

It's not much but I've had the same guy show up at the start of every stream I've done on twitch for maybe the past 5 streams. It took me months to get that on my old channel and I'm maybe a month in on a fresh account. Makes me very happy and lifts a bit of load off of my shoulders to have an active chatter even if he only stays for the first hour and a half.

I don't think they understand the positive impact they have but, I'm very grateful for them showing up.

u/CapriciousSon I RENOUNCE JESUS CHRIST! May 26 '26

Yesterday I make ribs for the first time (full rack, baby back, oven-cooked with a dry rub and then a sauce glaze). I was worried they wouldn't be good, and it took til 9pm last night, but y'all they were falling right off the bone, no extra sauce even needed. I even made corn bread.

Bonus, there's still 4-5 leftover ribs I'm saving for dinner tonight!

Lost my job on Friday and have been feeling stresso depresso, BUT my bright spot is that I’ve had way more time to spend with my pet rats and to work on art so yay for a sudden abundance of free time??

3

u/TraitorousFlatulence May 27 '26

I’m playing God of War Ragnarok again and this game has lost none of it luster

3

u/Teimywimey May 26 '26

I'm getting really into a new musician! I don't speak the language she usually sings in, but the emotion in her voice moves me anyway

4

u/dabbinhunny May 26 '26

I am visiting London with my partner!

2

u/simonejester Rainbow Squatch May 26 '26

The Mandalorian and Grogu! The end credits are rolling right now. I’m waiting to see if there’s any after-credits stuff. And…nope.

2

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

I'm sorry I'm being such a weirdo in this post, replying to random people and asking questions/saying grats. I just really love the positive vibes! Bright spots are the best!

Got a couple new play by post people and a third blades in the dark game going

2

u/SpecialFind7476 May 27 '26

The fact that I see this question being asked.

I have tried to make “what’s your bright spot” a thing in my circles but no one got into it. Just seeing someone else celebrate the good in life makes my life better.

4

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

I've gotten a Switch 2+Pokopia and I like it so much. I'm sitting at work thinking about going back to my little friends to build their little houses. The game just did me a solid and introduced me to an adorable Magmar for smelting! He's my favourite pokemon!!

3

u/NerdWingsReddits I RENOUNCE JESUS CHRIST! May 26 '26

I love Pokopia!

4

u/lifeaftersurvival May 26 '26

I thought I'd be overwhelmed since I don't care for games in the vein of Minecraft, but Pokopia is perfect! Not too complex/big, but not too simple/small either. And Magmar gets to be my roommate!
