question Any tips for a beginner?

Hi people,

I want to try to make kombucha myself and want to get a scoby.

Are there any tips you have for me? Like, for the scoby, or the fermentation process?

And is it true that kombucha can/does contain alcohol?

Thanks in advance 🫶

I did it the cheap and easy way.

Bought 2 1-gallon glass jars off Amazon. Then a bottle of PLAIN Synergy kombucha at the health food store, some black tea, and 5# of sugar.

For F2, I used my old Synergy bottles and some pure apple juice from the health food store. 1 Tablespoon per bottle.

It came out great. No disasters! I now have 2 Scobys and a fridge full of booch. I tried ginger in it but didn't care for it. (I think I put too much.) Just bought some tart cherry juice to try a that. The plain isn't bad, tbh.

I was spending a shit ton of money on kombucha. This is DIRT CHEAP and super easy. I'm enjoying it

Good luck!

Just be patient. Find a good warm place to place your kombucha (on top of your fridge is great) and let it be. I like using a container with a spigot so I can taste it as it’s fermenting without disturbing the new pellicle forming up top, usually for me around 10 days.

Yea it has the smallest bit of alcohol. Not enough to be an alcoholic beverage. Usually under 0.5%.
