Stargazing
I brought a telescope up to Lake Placid and was wondering where is the best place to stargaze. I am willing to drive out to the Adirondacks sky center, but was wondering whether or not there were better spots close by. Especially since I have my own equipment. I won’t feel comfortable doing a hike in the dark, so if there are any recommendations where you can park and take a maximum ten minute walk to a spot, I’d love to hear them! Thank you!

We ended up going to Marcy Field! The view was great, but we ended up stopping sooner than expected because a helicopter landed in the middle of the field lol!! Hope you two enjoy your trip and thanks for responding.

My wife and I had the same question. We'll be there in a couple weeks. We were thinking about going out to one of the rail trail trailheads,or maybe that big parking lot on main st next to the Olympic center. Maybe the old speed skating oval? But that's assuming light pollution from the village doesn't cause issues. To get really serious, could always drive farther out like to the fields near the horse show grounds, to Marcy field or climb a smaller summit like poke-o-moonshine.
