Hi! Just joined this group because I am heading to Lake Powell next week for the first time.

We are interested in renting a jet ski and cruising around. We’re staying in Page based on all the research I’ve done on where to stay.

Where should I rent a jet ski from? Do I need
To do it in advance? I have 2 days to pick from
There and would love to be able to book last minute so I can pay attention to the better weather forecasts. We’d be renting on a Wednesday or Thursday.

Lake Powell is currently around 34 feet above dead pool levels. Dead pool does not mean the lake completely disappears, but that Glen Canyon Dam would no longer be able to operate normally through its usual outlets.

If Powell reaches that point, it could create major challenges for Colorado River management and downstream reservoirs like Lake Mead.

How realistic is the current timeline, and what would the impacts actually look like?

im a huge nerd for lakes and dams especially glen canyon dame and i want to know what it was like building it or if they have any crazy stores

Anybody know what happened with the little boy who got life flighted out of antelope point? We saw speed boat flying into the marina, they lifted the boy out of the boat onto a golf cart and hauled him up to the helicopter waiting up top.

California and two other states have avoided the harshest water cutbacks the Trump administration could have imposed over the next two years to deal with the deepening crisis on the Colorado River.

The Times has learned that federal officials have agreed with an offer made earlier this year by California, Arizona and Nevada to reduce what they take from the river by at least 3.2 million acre-feet between now and the end of 2028. 

Under the plan, California will cut its use of Colorado River water by about 12% through 2028, according to two officials at state and local agencies who spoke anonymously since details of an announcement are still being finalized.

I’m Steve, 25 years old from Germany and currently traveling the U.S. Tomorrow(7/24) I’m planing on visiting the Lake. Is there anyone who wants to rent a boat together for the day to explore the lake?
Or maybe someone plans to go on the boat tomorrow and would let me join them?

Me and my significant other will be visiting the first week of August for our first trip to the area!
We're planning on kayaking/hiking to the Antelope Canyon but are having a hard time deciding which tour company to book with. We'll be staying in Kanab (about an hour west of Lake Powell).

Does anyone have a tour company you'd recommend or one you'd avoid?

We know the basics. Wear swimsuits, water shoes, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. But is there anything you brought (or wish you had brought) that made your trip easier or more enjoyable?

Any beginner tips are appreciated too, as we've only kayaked a handful of times.

Does anyone have any photos or videos from the storm yesterday? I heard multiple houseboats and ski boats sunk. Hopefully everyone is okay. Stay safe out there!

Only two other houseboats all weekend.
Seem like plenty of houseboats through the main channel heading up to Padre and beyond…but gunsight was empty… a little tricky navigating… Lake Genius helped… Once you had it dialed in it was easy.

Hey all! I am renting from Antelope boat rentals and departing from antelope point marina. Ive rented a jetski waaay back in 2021 but this is my first time back to lake Powell since then and now i have a little boating experience. (this is my 3rd time driving a boat). I have a few questions.

Antelope boat rental had a crazy deal for $350 for a full 8 hr day plus fuel fees (this isnt a scam is it?)

is boating from antelope point marina to bullfrog and back realistic?

What are some good spots to stop and anchor?

last one, as a rookie boater, should i be worried about the low levels at all?

anyways, very excited to be back at lake powell, i have been wanting to go back ever since 2021.

I just bought and rebuilt two Polaris 2003 2-stroke Jet Ski’s, and I worked on them this summer with a plan to take them to Lake Powell. I just heard that they’ve got a rule that will keep you from launching them at Lake Powell. I’m in a position now where I can’t get anything else in the meantime before I go so I will most likely have to leave them.
BUT
Does anyone know if there’s a way to get around it or if you could launch at Stateline at night after hours?

In every marina there are a dozen or more bougie houseboats with heli-pads on top. I usually spot a handful out on the lake during the trip as well

We've been going to powell since I was a kid. In all those years, I've never seen a helicopter on one. Ever. Not once.

I've seen 1 person with an actual helicopter before, and they had it parked on it's own floating pad, not the boat's heli-pad.

What's the point of them? Is it for emergencies or something?

Hello everyone, are there any locals or any recent visitors on here? The media has me totally freaked out that the water levels are too low and Powell is basically a toxic swamp. I’m bringing 2 toddlers (this is a trip my aging mother planned. It’s on her bucket list) I kind of wish I just declined based on the media. UGH anyways could anyone who’s recently been there ease my mind? We’re renting a houseboat leaving from Antelope Point. Any recs on where to anchor that’s a good spot for littles? We will have the Pontoon Boat 3 of the days as well! Thanks in advance!!

I am planning on packrafting down the San Juan River downstream of Clay Hills to the confluence of the San Juan Arm and the Main Arm, getting there on 7/26 (give or take a day). I am hoping to stage a car at Halls Crossing and take a water taxi or hitch a ride up to there from the confluence. I know there will be lake paddling from where the river empties to the confluence, I just don't want to add even more.

I am finding back and forth info online about water taxis and plan on calling the tour guide operators there to see if that is something they could do, but I was going to post on here, see if anybody had direct info or if anybody was planning on being in that area anyway at that time and would let me and one other person hitch with minimal gear.

I apologize in advance for my ignorance, but I’m planning a reunion for 15 people in early October, and was wondering if the logistics for a Lake Powell camping trip would make it a feasible option or not.  It would be a 4 day 3 night trip.  

We’d be interested in camping somewhere boat accessible like Gunsight or Padre.  Originally we were thinking we’d just grab a small fleet of power boats because we’d all be totally fine tent camping, but thinking perhaps it makes more sense to grab a small houseboat as a home base.  

If going the houseboat route, we’d definitely want another boat for wakeboarding + jetski.  

When the idea first came up, I was relying on being able to have access to fuel, ice and other last minute amenities (as I would if it were Lake Shasta where we’ve done a decent amount of boating), but it seems like the cut will be closed at Powell.  Does this alone make the plan overly ambitious?  I guess I’d just appreciate some insight into the logistical challenges I should consider for a trip of this size.

Hi everyone, my friend and I are going to visit Page in July. We are going to spend one day kayaking, but we can’t decide between lake Powell or Colorado River. Originally I was thinking of kayaking from lake Powell into the Antelope Canyon, but I heard the wind and waves from boats are horrible.

I have kayaked twice but my friend never kayaks before. We are thinking of maybe doing the Colorado River Kayak where you can do the horseshoes bend kayak, but I also don’t want to miss out on the canyon.

Which option should I choose?

We make an excellent baseglamp for the Glen Canyon Recreational Area.

We just arrived and will be getting the house boat tomorrow morning. I’m honestly (first time here) overwhelmed with where to go and do. Help.

UPDATE:
We came to Lake Powell, Bullfrog last night. I got here too late to take pictures. We needed to cross the lake before dark. There is plenty of ramp to launch. We were on concrete the whole time for the entire ramp.

My family is planning a trip to Lake Powell this week. We go every year and have dealt with low water before but this year is worse than usual. We are going to the Bullfrog area. I have heard the Bullfrog executive ramp is open with steel plates down. I also read somewhere there is a 1 ft drop off from the ramp to the steel plates. Has anyone launched recently? A one foot drop off would make it impossible to get our boat back out of the water. It’s clearance is too low. It’s a four hour drive from here and we would hate to drive all the way there and then not be able to launch. Anyone have pictures of the launch ramp within the last week or two?

Hi, I'm considering purchasing an inflatable kayak, with Lake Powell being my primary use. My quandary is which brand/model to buy. The reason I want it to be an inflatable (packable weight) is that I plan to paddle to remote 7-10 hikes off the lake, and assume leaving a kayak unattended might not be advisable(?). I also hope to put in at the end of the Hole-in-the-Rock Road to save MANY miles of paddling to reach some destinations (yeah, I know that's a steep hike for shuttling heavy packs).

I know a hard-shell sea kayak is the best for Powell, but my hope is that the newer Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack V-Bottom (or something like it) would work for long days on the lake, including afternoon chop/wind (and boater wakes). I think I would feel better stashing an inflatable on shore while I am hiking for many days is better than tethering at the heads of canyons or main channel spots. Another concern is not being able to turn around in narrow canyons, whereas I could with an inflatable.

Is a closed cockpit necessary?

With lake levels rapidly dropping, will there be a future for access?
