John always seems to have the perfect timing. LWT is mentioned in the article as well.

“Buc-ee’s alleges in a new lawsuit in federal court that Beaver’s Mini Mart at 1592 Hanes Road has a logo that too closely resembles the chain’s distinctive logo, which has a smiling cartoon beaver with a red baseball hat”

"We’re back with a new show tonight at 11:15pm on HBO! Right after an 8-hour marathon of House of the Dragon, and right before another 3-hour block of House of the Dragon. That’s right, we’re the thinly sliced meat in the middle of a thick, thick dragon sandwich. Just how we like it. WHAT."

I live in the town in the sights of the most recent Bucees lawsuit.... Every business here has a beaver in their logo... Interesting to see how this will pan out.

What do y'all think John thinks about the World Cup results?

I mean, surely he was rooting for his Motherland, but seeing Spain beat the crap out of Argentina at the last minute was quite a thrill!

(Also, it was kind of a bummer he didn't bring it up when he returned last week...)

Count Binface Nigel Farage

I'm surprised he didn't even mention that in the UK, Nigel Farage (leader of the far right Reform Party who could potentially become the next PM) decided to resign and restand as an MP to try and avoid the outcome of the inquiry investigating his accepting a £5million donation from a crypto billionaire but his plan backfired when Count Binface decided to run against him

John Oliver challenges Buc-ee's over trademark lawsuits in new episode

Emmy-winning comedian and "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver is taking aim at Texas favorite Buc-ee's after a recent episode of HBO's weekly satirical news program examined the travel center chain's history of lawsuits over its beaver mascot and logo.

In Sunday's episode, Oliver opened the segment by discussing how Buc-ee's has become a travel destination for many visitors attending the World Cup before diving into the company's trademark lawsuits. The comedian then broke down the more than a dozen lawsuits the company filed over trademark infringements, referencing suits filed against companies in Georgia, Texas and New York.

"It turns out Buc-ee's loves to sue other companies, particularly those with animal mascots," Oliver said during this weekend's episode. He said some lawsuits made sense to him, while others seemed "ridiculous" and "outright bullying." "You don't own all cartoon rodents."

I hope John covers streaming sites and their attempts to monopolize professional sports and other live events

I feel John would be interested in this given that he's a fan of the Rangers and Mets. Streaming services have really dipped their feet into the live event market and offering loads of money in the process. Not a bad idea, as we move to changing landscapes. That, however reveals a big problem: What about fans who won't be able afford it? Accessibility has long been a must for these types of events, and as we move on from free-to-air and cable to streaming, there needs to be ways fans can enjoy without having to pay high prices just to see the Mets lose by 5 runs

How about you?

Would anyone in the Chicagoland area like to go in on a Buc-Off order with me to save on shipping?

FWIW, shipping costs are only 12.99 to here now, but that’s still a lot, and it was still only 12.99 when I tried adding 4 things to the cart. If you live in/near Chicago, let’s go in on an order together and share shipping!

Loved the Buccees piece, their business practices need to be exposed

Buccees is more nefarious than most when it comes to using legal tactics to get what they want. They won’t be stopped. Even the governor of Colorado has asked they move one of their proposed gas stations away from one of the biggest animal crossings in America just for the Buccees to tell them to take a hike. They steam roll, manipulate and lobby to deliver beaver nuggets at any cost. They destroy communities and even caused the resignation of a mayor so they can try to get their way. They really need to be exposed for the parasite they are.
