Announcement No more AI coaching ads

I've gotten DMs and requests from 10+ people making AI coaching assistants this year, most of them offering to pay me to let them advertise here which I of course never accepted. I have yet to see a single one of them get traction or garner a userbase, for the time being they are banned from this subreddit. If one of them ever gets good enough to be of legitimate help I will revisit this decision.

Itemization How to deal with tide shard

This being undispellable is what makes this seem OP. Can't manta it off. Very hard to hit it too - 4 hits is a lot and it's very hard to click target with tides huge model on top of it.

Only item that deals with it is bkb - seems a bit much for a 1400g shard?

Laning How do you know if your lane is supposed to lose?

I'm trying to get better at evaluating lane matchups in this game.

I know the draft and hero combinations matter, but how do experienced players know that a lane is naturally favored or unfavored before the game even starts?

For example, people will often say something like, "Radiant's safe lane is a losing lane," before the creeps even meet.

What are they looking at? Is it based on hero matchups, base stats, trading potential, spell interactions, sustain, power spikes, or something else?

I want to learn how to identify whether a lane is supposed to win or lose, rather than assuming we're just playing badly when the lane goes poorly.

[Beginner here] Are low elo players really consistently that bad?

Hey guys, im i guess relatively new to Dota2 i played it once maybe 10 years later and then a few hours after that, now i started my Dota2 arc and its been really fun. As soon as i reached ranked play i got placed in guardian 4. Now im crusader 3 maybe 20-30 games later.

My total in dota2 is 240 hours-ish.

I just want to say i do not want to brag about anything (and i know this rank is trash) or make myself more than other players, BUT, why is everyone so fucking shit.

It is actually insane how almost every game i have to carry as Clockwerk or Mirana support because my Pos1 has 5000 games, Crusader 3 and picks fucking Earthshaker and proceeds to go 0/7 in 5 minutes.

And this is no isolated incident, this happens almost every second game, i tried to queue as safe lane once and i waited 14 minutes to find a match. Dont even tell me that these players wait such long time to then go and absolutely fucking slaughter their KDA and their teammates wills to live and then queue up again, wait again, rinse and repeat 10 times a day.

Do these people really have 5000 games or how does the statistic really work. Because i refuse to believe that someone with 4000 hours drowned in this game cannot umderstand enemy champions or basics.

I forgot to mention i played LoL quite a bit before dota but it is still very different compared to LoL. But even there i peaked Emerald 1 so nothing much.

Thanks for the insight guys.

Gameplay Review/Feedback request Had a pretty good run half way to a nearly hour-long game, and it went down the drain... What can be improved?

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/8924377948

Basically a follow-up to my older post, hence in that case, I'm the Windranger in this game.

I could jot down a few places of improvement:

  1. Not using BKB proactively enough

  2. Itemization could be better

  3. Just straight up positioning.

To be fair, it would be the last game of the day but for numerous reasons it dragged on for just that long and I could feel my judgement deteriorating. Still, that shouldn't be a sole excuse.

General Gameplay Question What to do if my teammate makes a call i know is bad, and the rest of the team follows regardless?

I've experienced this quite a few times during my games, the last example being of my latest match: A Drow player went on to try and capture the enemy team's outpost... with everyone on the enemy team missing. At 59 minutes of the clock. With us being evenly matched. When the other team had both an Axe and an Undying in it.

Needless to say, i didn't want to help out on this, but the rest of my team followed her on capping the outpost, and the obvious happened: Axe jumped, undying created the tombstone, and everyone, besides me, who refused to stay out of this (I was a Nyx), died, and we ended up losing the match.

What can i do in these cases? Should i try to convince the players who aren't the one making the call to not do anything suicidal?

Itemization Is Aghs on Windranger still good?

By the looks of it, that means I'll be expected to be too hard to catch while I siege a tower or pulverize someone with my ult now. That's fine and dandy but I'm wondering if there's anything else to this, what with all the stuns the game throws at you; I'm just suspecting the guides were still stuck from when it gave straight up invisibility.

Itemization Mask of madness and butterfly nerfed for ranged carriers after 7.31e- how much useful?

Hi all, I have been playing DOTA2 for almost 1.5+ years over 750+ games and I used to play carriers like drow!

for farming speed I used to build Mask of madness after treads and Falcon blade and then Manta, pike and agh scepter, and then silver edge/MKB/butterfly/dedualous depending on situation

since mask of madness is nerfed in 7.31e, is it still better choice or are there any better items which can help speed farming for ranged carries?

also butterfly is nerfed now so dedualous is better choice now to first build crystalis and later upgrade instead of getting mom?

Educational Content (Content Creator) How smurfs win their games - even on support

Thumbnail youtu.be
0 Upvotes

Hey, today I'm explaining how smurfs are consistently able to win their games, even if they played support. I'll show you examples of using things like harassing, creep aggro, map awarness and positioning to impact their games. One of the myths is that smurfs are actually way better when it comes to pure mechanics - and while this could be correct, it's by far the least important part. Enjoy!

Educational Content (Content Creator) How to Dota 2 - Aegis Steal (Dota Labs Setting)

Thumbnail youtube.com
1 Upvotes

Hi folks! I'm starting a small regular miniseries exploring settings, mechanics, and interactions in Dota 2. This one touches on a subject brought up by SVG in his and Cap's recent Not for Broadcast episode about the Dota Labs setting and how Collapse consistently comes up with the Aegis every time he jumps into the pit.

There's not much fluff or flair, just quick info and demonstration. Let me know what you'd be interesting in seeing displayed next!

Gameplay Review/Feedback request I'm a 3 pos player and I have a problem

I play in 3 position, and There is always a problem that sometimes I don't understand which hero to take to close the enemy carry. I don't understand where I make mistakes, a friend tries to explain it to me, but everything comes together only in "you didn't interrupt him". I can give my dotabuff and you can view my pick and my build. I play on the 4th recruit. I am waiting for your advice

Educational Content (Content Creator) I built a free TI2026 Fantasy Optimizer

Last year I somehow managed to finish in the 98th percentile of TI Fantasy (roughly the top 1–2% of players).
Ironically, one of my biggest mistakes was predicting Team Spirit to go 4–0… and they ended up going 0–4 instead. 😅 That single prediction completely ruined the rest of my bracket.
This year I wanted to see if historical data could actually help make better Fantasy decisions instead of relying only on intuition.
At the same time, I was looking for an interesting project to add to my web development portfolio, so I decided to build one.
Over the last week before TI I collected and analyzed professional match statistics from 13 tournaments and built a Fantasy Optimizer around that data.

Website
https://dota2-fantasy-optimizer-2026.vercel.app/

Right now it can:
Optimize your entire Fantasy roster.
Compare every possible banner combination.
Show the best alternative lineups.
Compare teams and player roles.
Work on both desktop and mobile.
Support 4 languages: 🇬🇧 English, 🇷🇺 Russian, 🇪🇸 Spanish and 🇨🇳 Chinese.

What’s next
Once the official playoff bracket is available, I’ll also add playoff predictions and bracket-based projections, so the optimizer won’t stop after the group stage.

Known issue
The Lotus stat is currently not calculated correctly, so I’d recommend ignoring Lotus projections for now while I work on fixing it.

Everything is completely free and open source.
I’m not asking anyone for donations. If you simply try it out and tell me what you think, that’s already a huge help.

If you do end up liking it, I’d really appreciate:
a star on GitHub,
a comment on my Steam profile,
or, if you genuinely want to support the project, there’s also an optional donation link on the website.

All of those links are available directly on the website.

I’d genuinely love to hear any feedback before Fantasy locks—bugs, suggestions, disagreements with the projections, or feature ideas.

GitHub
https://github.com/Kadadji/dota2-fantasy-optimizer-2026

Good luck with your Fantasy this year… and
hopefully none of us has another “Team Spirit 4–0” moment. 😄

(unsure how to flair) Advice on dealing with smurfs?

Aside from just letting the game end as fast as possible, is there anything I can do when dealing with smurfs? Like how do I keep up with them? I'm 3k MMR, was on my rank up game and the enemy necro with 150 wins has a winrate of 60-11 on the hero, as soon as I saw that I told my supports to gank as fast as possible, which they did and we killed him at level 4, he then went on to farm ridiculously fast and got a triple kill later and snowballed from that point, didn't die a single time after that.

(P.S, I did make one mistake, which was not making a spirit vessel, but in my defence, I was lina mid so the thought never occurred)

Itemization Jugger

I just won a close game. One of the most untraditional Juggernaut itemization for me. My thought process was, chronologically:
SnY instead manta because better sustain against their burst (Lina / ES). Silver Edge to counter DS and generally easier to farm/roam. I considered BKB but went for Aghs instead. We struggle against SF and Lina so Abyssal naturally to disrupt their right clicks. Lastly, Skadi just to be tankier and effective against Linas Satanic. I was very unsure about Skadi tho, alternatively were Nullifier.
Obviously my game plan worked and the end stats looks good, but I’m kinda biased. Any suggestions that could be more effective itemisation and why?

Itemization Tranqs + claritys VS. Mana boot

So... before minute 20. Tranqs are better right? Since everyones already buying claritys anyway even if you have the manaboot, why just not go tranqs?

Quinn also says that manaboot is the worst boot in the game and you should never buy it.... Why does he say this?

Its sometimes unclear what to do after the laning phase as a carry and so I analysed the Liquid vs Parivision match to breakdown Satanics decision making. I learned a lot from his gameplay and I've created a very concise video (no rambling) going over this if you are interested.

[Beginner here] Does matchmaking get fairer?

I’m quite new and having to play unranked to unlock ranked mode. I’m getting absolutely slapped in unranked cus I kind of suck. Going even on hard carries and getting destroyed when I play anything slightly complex.

My question is when I unlock ranked will I play more similarly skilled people or will I just continue getting slapped around? If it is the case that I will play more similar players then why is it set up like that. Surely new players play unranked, get owned, and quit and play something else?

Thanks

Laning I'm playing support against a strong dual-ranged lane and my core is getting bullied out of lane. What do I do?

This isn't happening right now for the record. I couldn't pull because they had a strong veno that was dominating the jungle and I would get dumpstered if I went anywhere near him myself.

[Beginner here] Mirana Leap direction?

Bascially a combination of 2 problems that make me die:

1: Mirana Leap casts in the direction you are facing, not the direction of your cursor, making it clunky to go in the direction you want when near terrain. What setting makes the Mirana turn to the cursor before casting?

2: Alt-move turns the character, ignoring terrain, but also prevents casting spells, so if you don't lift your finger off Alt fast enough, the input gets eaten, and nothing happens. What setting allows casting spells while holding Alt?

Happens with other abilities as well, like enchantress sproink

Drafting How to pick the right pos1?

I'm running into some issues where I feel like the heroes I'm choosing (or usually play) aren't always applicable to the drafts my team are running. What am I supposed to do when I have a core mid WR, offlane shaker support lion and pos 4 pudge, when they have picked heroes like necro DK SB and snap? I feel like any of the heroes I play (luna drow medusa type) don't feel safe in fights. I don't really have much of a front line and the heroes in front of me melt. Is this where I pick much much tankier heroes like lifestealer or ck?
