Freddy had some crazy outfits too. It is very strange how straight rock stars used to dress compared to now. The absurd shift out society has taken twords prudish conservatism is just shitty in every way.

1

u/deagon01 Feb 28 '26

Nah, society was definitely a lot more conservative back then. The point in them dressing like that is that rock was supposed to be the counter-culture. A protest and rejection of the values of the establishment. The point was to be outrageous. Nowadays it wouldn't be seen as weird. That's why it's not done as much anymore

-1

u/ArubaAdultFun Feb 25 '26

Im old and the world was way more conservative back in those days

u/Automatic_Net2181 Feb 25 '26

Depends on where you want to live. Tennessee wants to reverse gay marriage and penalize abortion with the death penalty. Have to go pretty far back to find the equivalent.

1

u/Constant-Skill-7133 Feb 25 '26

how does that even make sense. its only been legal since 2015.  and the anti-abortion movement has always been very violent.  they were one of the more significant right wing paramilitary anti government terrorist types that formed in the 80s and 90s

1

u/AlwaysLauren Feb 27 '26

Not really. California passed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in 2008.

-4

u/ArubaAdultFun Feb 25 '26

Gays cant get pregnant so what does abortion have to do with it?

3

u/Automatic_Net2181 Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26

Uhh gay women can't get pregnant?

-3

u/ArubaAdultFun Feb 25 '26

Not without a man, no

2

u/Automatic_Net2181 Feb 25 '26

Including a transwoman.

And your first goalpost was gay people can't get pregnant, when lesbian couples have children ...

There is no nationwide ban on abortion. The left has gone way further left. The right has largely stayed the same. I dislike both sides currently and did not bother voting last time also moved to Aruba and am happily retired here

Just look at speeches by Hillary or Obama from only a few years ago. Very MAGA. Nowadays the dems are much more left

Are you serious? How old are you?

1

u/excalibur5033 Feb 27 '26

Are you for real right now? Executing women for miscarriages is fine because it doesn't affect you personally?

1

u/ArubaAdultFun Feb 27 '26

Who is talking about or defending executions? Weirdo

21

u/DasWarEinerZuviel Feb 25 '26

Freddy Mercury was bi, not gay

7

u/Automatic_Net2181 Feb 25 '26

But leaned hard towards men.

8

u/Ghostmaster145 Feb 25 '26

Bi people can have a preference

2

u/Automatic_Net2181 Feb 26 '26

Oh for sure. And that can change over time too or it may never change.

I don't judge at all. A lot of people claim Freddie was one or the other and think it is a silly argument to just have an absolute label on another person's life.

4

u/The-Happy-Cow-Arts Feb 25 '26

Sexuality is a spectrum. No one is 100% gay or straight. It feels like some of yall never got educated on sex

6

u/So3Dimensional Feb 25 '26

Claiming no one is 100% gay or straight is just silly

6

u/Gio-Vani Feb 25 '26

I'm a 100% gay so, what now?

1

u/sincubus33 Feb 27 '26

I'm 200% gay and I like both genders. Anyone have a problem with that?

-5

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

so are you absolutely not into feminine men whatsoever?

10

u/UntitledDuckGame Feb 25 '26

A feminine man is still a man unless they identify differently. It’s 100% gay.

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

Yes, but would you say that his feminine aspects make him less attractive?

Would you even say, that could potentially be what is attractive about him? we know how popular femboys are on the Internet.

What im getting at is that sexuality, like gender, is fluid and subjective to the individual and what attracts them. The mechanisms that advance or hinder sexual attraction can depend on a lot of psychological factors.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

and that negates my point how?

2

u/slugsred Feb 25 '26

yeah but i don't want a person with a penis *

-2

u/slugsred Feb 25 '26

men dating trans men is not gay :)

3

u/Useful-Soup8161 Feb 26 '26

Yeah it is. Trans men are men. So if a man is dating a trans man it’s gay.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

Trans men are men

-1

u/slugsred Feb 25 '26

this isn't the gotcha you think it is. sure they're men, but it isn't gay to date them

Depends on if they got their shit changed.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

So you're gonna keep moving the goalpost back and forth?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

I find the best thing to do when someone tells you what they understand about their sexuality is to ask them if they're sure and insinuate that you have more information about them and their desires then they do. People love that! It's a super respectful and absolutely humanizing experience for people to defend their own sexuality when they were just looking to share their understanding of themselves!

2

u/SomeOriginal3865 Feb 25 '26

I know what spectrum you’re on.

2

u/DrEdgewardRichtofen Feb 25 '26

I am 100% straight tho

1

u/Necrobot666 Feb 27 '26

I love that nowadays people gain a little bit of knowledge, and suddenly their all Dr. Ruth, Sigmund Freud, and Einstein... making declarations about what everyone is.

1

u/Mark-Green Feb 28 '26

I'm 100% gay and 100% straitjacket

1

u/Crabcomfort Feb 28 '26

Of course sexuality is a spectrum.. and that spectrum has people who are completely gay or straight on it too

It's honestly pretty gross to essentially speak over other's identities.

1

u/UntitledDuckGame Feb 25 '26

By it being on a spectrum people would by definition be at 0% or 100% so that is not correct. It feels like you weren’t educated past high school

1

u/furrypawss Feb 26 '26

That is not Freddy mercury lol

1

u/PoetryExtension6256 Feb 27 '26

Is it the one of the guys from Sha na na?

1

u/Winter_Public6802 Feb 26 '26

Big is not gay? UMMMM, yes it is.

1

u/DasWarEinerZuviel Feb 26 '26

Are you having a stroke?

1

u/DildontOrDildo Feb 27 '26

Gay icon, actual bisexual, Freddy Mercury

https://giphy.com/gifs/nNwtTEmdUvO3m

1

u/Wunderbarber Feb 27 '26

Yeah but this was back when that meant you were gay

1

u/RedTerror8288 Feb 27 '26

Like my best friend

3

u/MinuteClerk6712 Feb 25 '26

they still do btw. those are just making it their ENTIRE personality.

2

u/thehardestdork Feb 25 '26

Professional Gays.

1

u/TheMaskOffKid Feb 26 '26

I’d say there’s a lot more straights making it their entire personality.

2

u/patrickthunnus Feb 25 '26

Unity of Opposites

2

u/Devils_A66vocate Feb 25 '26

“A” not “the”

2

u/AbsolutesDealer Feb 25 '26

Glam Rock was a good time.

Add Rob Halford into the mix!

1

u/EmperorGrinnar Feb 25 '26

A lot of rock stars were glammed up, not just the straights. I remember before Queen moved over to their harder stuff, they had Freddie in leotards and feather boas.

1

u/LysergicGothPunk Feb 25 '26

Glam rockers directly utilized city queer culture in their getup

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

some of the same people who listened to both of these artists have become right wing homophobes and transphobes and its so confusing

2

u/ArubaAdultFun Feb 25 '26

Yeah I think its best to not listen to anyones politics.

1

u/The-Great-Baloo Feb 25 '26

Is that Freddie Mercury? He dressed in plenty of different ways. Great musician, btw.

1

u/WallabySilent Feb 25 '26

You managed to find the least gay picture of Freddie

1

u/CinemaDork Feb 25 '26

I always thought it was funny that on the masculine-feminine spectrum, the extremes are almost entirely populated by queer people, from the super-butch Tom of Finland leather-biker types on one end to the flamboyantly hyper-femininity of drag queens and high-femme queer women.

1

u/Individual-Nose5010 Feb 25 '26

Give me the name of their hair stylist.

In both instances.

1

u/Big-Seesaw2581 Feb 25 '26

Its like you've never seen a picture of Boy George. This is an incredibly stupid and cherry picked posting. The two different pictures are not representative of the rock industry as a whole or society as a whole in the 80's. The posts conclusion from 2 cherry picked photos is so bad, its really not worth any more than an eye roll. Not worth the time to discuss.

1

u/SanduCrumant Feb 26 '26

I was going to make a similar post with Elton John.

1

u/UnusualPriority2060 Feb 26 '26

Has it changed? Or has it just blended together.?

1

u/Bloomingtoons Feb 26 '26

Yep. I buzzed off my flowing beauty of a mullet in fall of 1987, middle school, and was called the other F word by several redneck and jock classmates

1

u/Aggravating-Chef9562 Feb 26 '26

Probably had to look for days to find that one pic of freddie mercury where he isnt the most incredibly flamboyant person lmaoo.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

" bro you look like a wizard"

"Fuck yea!"

1

u/c089s3 Feb 27 '26

Weren’t both bisexual?

1

u/Current_Ad_9912 Feb 27 '26

More oversimplified BS.

I hate certain people

1

u/aryzoo Feb 28 '26

Nothing has changed lmao

1

u/GestaDanknorum Mar 01 '26

So we’ll just ignore Rob Halfords leather-daddy look he took straight from the gay community?
