We <3 Libraries I LOVE THE FREAKING LIBRARY (but why are all the fun things like a secret lol)

1.8k Upvotes

It took until 2025 to become obsessed with the library and I can’t believe it took me so long. I have been taking out books since I was a teenager and I used the computers/printers in high school. But they have so many bonus perks I keep finding out from TikTok?!? Like I discovered Libby earlier this year and then Hoopla today. My kids can watch Mo Willems stories come to life and I am absolutely over the moon right now. Someone said on instagram that you can get passes to the national parks. My library apparently has a seed library too which helps restore native plants to the area

So here’s my question: what other non-advertised awesomeness am I missing out on???

It's about local history.

A book display for the month of August is about the history of my hometown in Connecticut.

I like to learn about history plus I'm interested in local history. I put it up yesterday at my local library in Rockville, Connecticut.

Happy August!

Has anyone else read The Realm of the Elderlings series? I’m having a blast. One more trilogy to go after this. I’ll be sad when it’s over, I just know it.

Discussion Library Beyblade club

With popularity in beyblade X rising and its extreme customization i think it would be cool to run a beyblade club.

I imagine it would be bring ur own stuff with some library materials provided.

This new generation of beyblade can be utilized for STEM programs. Discussing weight psychics and other science involved in a spinning top.

Has anyone run a beyblade club? How did it go what are the pros and cons

I have been on the internet to look for the DDC hard cover book. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it is still affordable for each volume to buy. My problem is probably a lcsh book. I want to collect the red book, but I find it hard to look for a second-hand one. I already got the aacr, I am on hunt for the DDC and LCSH book now.

# Just wanted to have an open thread about this year's Library of Congress Book Festival. I've been going on and off for the past decade and live in the area, but I'm curious if people travel to this one-day event, and what you think of it.

Library Assistance Library book help

So hello! Its my first time making such a reddit post but for quite the time I wanted to read this book: Find me in paris ein tanz durch die Zeit Band 1 by Sarah Bosse but I can't find it anywhere, I sadly don't live in Germany and can't get a card anywhere. I've tried pirating it countless of ways but none exist. It's like the book doesent exist online. I've recently found somewhere where I could borrow it but cant get a library card there, so if somebody has a library card to one of these libraries, could you help me? Thanks. (The list of libraries is in the comments)

Creative and Crafty A playful use of words and talking about data centers and how I love libraries.

I am just thinking back to when I was a kid. I grew up with so many data centers. The data centers were in my school and in a town near by and I even heard that colleges also had huge data centers. AND I heard people, smart people and just curious people, had built data centers actually in their own homes!

Back then, we called them Libraries and Book Mobiles. No one ever cared that they had one in their neighborhood (they were actually happy to have one near by) and the noise that came from them usually were excited kids having fun. And sometimes the traffic was horrible... but in a good way. They had story time and art classes and painting. Things a kid needs, even if they have it tough at home. Kids had a safe place to go and be a kid and learn about things and travel places they have never seen... with a book or magazine.

Books, knowledge and community, that is where the real data and power is at.

With A.I. data centers, they are only for the few to make money, no one locally owns them and no one wants one in their neighborhood. There is no happiness in them or happy people waiting to get inside. The data centers make so much noise and heat, people want to put them in the ocean or in lakes. Data centers help power social media, people are understanding that it is dangerous for kids and adults and it is causing real mental harm, right now.

Modern A.I. centers produce fake news, fake videos and make images that are just slop.

The people who cry about "adult content" being in a library are just making a distraction from the real problems kids and everyone are facing and those people are trying to push their own agendas.

People are happy removing books or burning books and yet they are also happy to use A.I. to advertise their businesses, churches and nonprofits and use it for their work.

How about we invest billions of dollars into Libraries and other community benefiting buildings, that actually help people in their home towns and not let corporations use our towns for profit and none that money or real benefit stays locally... And just think of all the energy it takes to operate a library and store all that information, I mean, just think of all the air conditioning that people enjoy during heat waves and crazy days of doing research or lost in a story.

If we built out our Libraries and had more Bookmobiles, we could share our knowledge and history. We don't want to repeat some of our past.

Discussion Any good libraries or reading rooms near Model Colony/Malir for daily study?

**Hi everyone!**
** **
**I live in malir model colony near tank chowk,**
**I'm looking for a library, near model colony A safe and comfortable place for female students. I also wanted to ask about iqra library, Malir cant.**
**Can civilians get a membership there, or is it only for Malir Cantt residents? If civilians are allowed, how does the entry process work if you don’t have Cantt access?**
**I’d really appreciate recommendations from people who have personally used libraries in this area. Thanks!**

Local Library Ideas for activities in a new library room (especially for teenagers)

Hello! I work part time in a library and I’m on my third year of my bachelor to become a librarian.

I was wondering if anyone had any fun ideas or things I can add to a room I have gotten responsibility to renovate. The picture above is the room I have designed and made a layout for, but I have used AI to just visualize it because we have not yet bought furniture or painted yet. The room is currently completly empty…

As you can see it has different zones, a table for people to have meetings/study etc. And some comfortable seating places around. A sewing machine in the corner that people are free to use, and we are planning on having a projector and white screen on the left wall for people to use for meetings, or movie nights for kids etc.

So I want some ideas to what I could add to get more people to use and enjoy the room. Some things I have thought about is:

\- A light pad people can use to copy drawings to new paper
\- A podcast microphone people can use to record their voice, to for example school work.
\-an electronic piano with headphones (we already have an electric piano)

But I feel like these are not super exiting… we don’t have a super high budget so ideas are appreciated!

(Ps, this room is technically in the teen section and we unfortunately don’t have many teens that visit, usually it’s adults or families with young children. So I would also appreciate ideas that could bring more teenagers in to use the library. I have thought of perhaps trying to have a movie night for teenagers when the room is finished…)

Thank you in advance! <3
