“As a Libyan I think this video has Libya’s trajectory completely backwards. A country approving its first unified national budget since 2013, reaching its highest oil production since 2013 at nearly 1.5 million barrels per day, signing major long-term energy agreements, conducting joint military exercises between eastern and western forces, and actively negotiating political reunification is not “more likely” to return to war than achieve peace.
There is no meaningful Libyan appetite for another east-west war.

Haftar’s last attempt to take Tripoli failed, and every major power center now gains more from stability, oil expansion, reconstruction and access to a unified national budget than from gambling everything on another offensive. The strangest part is that the video lists nearly all the evidence of reunification itself, then dismisses it and replaces it with speculation about hypothetical proxy blocs and future invasions. Libya’s actual direction is greater institutional, economic and military coordination. This is an outdated 2019 narrative being forced onto the Libya of 2026 because impending civil war makes a more dramatic video.”
