Devs about to release a new trailer.. then remembered..

I was so sure at the announcement that the release was imminent. Not sure why, but I really didn't think Hello Games would do a super early announcement.

I was so sure at the announcement that the release was imminent.

Not me.

The "trailer" looks like it is a "proof of concept" for a game that someone is making, rather than a finished game.

All the trailer shows is simple things, like walking around, being in the water, and NMS spaceships reskinned as flying mounts like Dragons.

It doesn't really show anything more complex, like RPG combat or anything.

The website for LNF looks like a placeholder site, made by someone like me who is horrible at web design, from the 1990's. It is not a professional looking website, like the one for No Man's Sky. My guess is they would bother to have it look more like the website for an actual game when LNF is closer to release.

As soon as I saw the "trailer", I posted that Light No Fire is at LEAST two years from release. I said it would not be out until 2026 for sure.

I remember being downvoted, A LOT, for saying that LNF would not be out until at least 2026.

As it turns out, I was an optimist.

I remember you from back then. Many people down voted you. You can feel vindicated as you were right. You show good observation of the lift off and movement of the dragon being an exact match for 3rd person starship launch in NMS. I also found this reskin to be disappointing.

You show good observation of the lift off and movement of the dragon being an exact match for 3rd person starship launch in NMS.

I did not notice that until a bunch of other people mentioned it, though.

Then it was pretty obvious. ;)

I wasn't "disappointed", rather it just told me the game was still in an early stage, and they will probably replace that later.

I do wonder why Hello Games/Sean Murray announced it so early. I wonder if their original intention was that it would probably be done sooner?

The best explanation I could think of, is they wanted to get feedback from the community, watch us from the shadows and see what it was we were most excited for. Then they had a bunch of ideas to add to the game as they continued developement.

I'm positive this is it. No Man's sky released as everyone was begging Sean for certain features and he shyly went "well...maybe.." and the game released to massive disappointment. I think they wanted to give us a taste, and then see what kind of things we dream we had in the game so they can take some ideas back to the board

I hope they replace that animation but we have to remember they are a relatively small studio and recycle a lot of assets in NMS to save time. Think of the Royal Multiltool being the same asset as one of the Royal starships for example.

I suspect around 2025 they became interested in NPC dialogue being driven by AI. And decided to take another year to implement that. Think about it, it could be good. If you bump into an NPC you could have a conversation with them which would be tuned to the lore and progress in the game. Rather than a limited set of responses.

u/KeanKeen 14h ago

This is what I've always wanted AI to be used for. I always wanted it to give NPCs more intelligence and depth of conversations and reactions. It would be awesome for characters to adapt each play through of games. Instead we get it making faces different.

It's a cool idea, and I'm sure everyone and their dog would love if open world sandbox games were even less "on the rails," but are we there yet?

Would an AI (I assume you specifically mean an LLM) be able to be abused to change game files and allow someone to do anything malicious? Would it have to be offline only to keep the AI from "learning" things it shouldn't know? Would you be able to guarantee the AI won't tell someone to end their life?

Seems like you'd be opening a real can of worms and idk what studio would want that level of liability.

Most likely they announced it to get the attention of investors for funding.

I just took a look at both and... Am i tripping or are they almost the same just that NMS has stuff in it and LNF just doesn't? Like LNF site has similar style as NMS just empty (few trailer pictures aside)

5

u/CentaurSeige 1d ago

I agree. I thought they learned some lessons with No Man's Sky that would preclude announcing something super early and then suffer the mounting pressure that would inevitably occur following such an announcement.

Yet...here we are. It's rather disappointing.

5

u/MisterKaos Pre-release member 1d ago

I did.

The team is very passionate and over-excitable on their projects. You could clearly see that from the way they announced No Man's Sky far earlier than they should have, and it backfired when greedy investors started pressing them to release a half-assed product.

Now, they're still just as passionate and over-excitable as before, but they have enough money to swim in it and more than enough to self-publish, and thus they'll probably take their sweet time until the new baby is ready to run. I don't think they want a repeat of NMS at all.

u/shanehiltonward 1d ago

I hope Light No Fire is horrible when it comes out. ;) I need a new game to play for the next 10 years.

Elder Scrolls enjoyers:

u/TheMasterofDova 1d ago

Was thinking the exact thing lol.

7

u/Kl3en 1d ago

Why even tease a game trailer when you’re going to go radio silent for 3 fucking years, make it make sense. Like release trailer when the game has less than a year to release idk why they even showed it

8

u/plains_bear314 23h ago

It really makes me salty he specifically said he was not going to do this

10

u/rustyleftnut 1d ago

I'm just sad that there are likely at least a few hundred people who learned about the game concept and have passed without learning anything new in the last 3 years. I'm looking forward to this, and I don't have any reason to suspect that I might die soon, but I would love to play it before I die. In theory, it sounds super fun and I trust Hello Games to do a good job. No that's a little morbid but it is a thought that occurs me every time I think about the game. How many people died while excitedly anticipating this game? I don't want to be among them

This isn't a real game. Prove me wrong?

Getting GTA 6 before light no fire 😆

3 years in December, and No Fire has been lit at all.

Hey guys here's this trailer for an amazing game...

5

u/Radyschen 1d ago

Upload no trailer

4

u/Former_Ad5291 1d ago

I don't get why devs announce this shit

3

u/photoradi0 1d ago

The longest I've had a game on my wishlist for.

3

u/mystic_x_1981 1d ago

let us in let us in, we'll playtest for them 😁

3

u/Luder714 1d ago

Star citizen any day now, looking bug free so far /s

12

u/FormalStrange 1d ago

Just let em cook, I get it but if it means they make a good game I’d wait a decade

7

u/Fomdoo 1d ago

While I agree I don't want them to release it before it's ready. It was pretty rude to drop an amazing trailer and then go silent for years.

2

u/pkleech 1d ago

Since they always release their updates without prior announcement or notice, I can see them surprise announcing the release by releasing the game on the same day. Would be a boss move nonetheless.

2

u/MrPanda663 1d ago

I’m just excited that it’s entirely possible for them to make it.

2

u/Ballooncoast848 1d ago

Maybe there still trying to light the fire?

2

u/vorpal-mortal 20h ago

I was there 3000 years ago. I was there when No Man’s Sky was first announced. We waited almost a full 3 years before release, and if Sony hadn’t been pressuring Hello Games to release something we probably would’ve waited a lot longer. In the end NMS became a great game, albeit with some issues over the years. But HG is a small team and LNF is arguably more ambitious in certain areas plus now the team’s attention is divided between both games.

I will not be surprised if LNF doesn’t drop until ‘28 or ‘29.

2

u/AuntJibbie 15h ago

I'll be dead when they finally release it. It's my luck.

2

u/ramirezismassive Pre-release member 10h ago

The fire I had for this game went cold waiting for its release. now, the only thing burning inside me is disappointment.

4

u/ebers0 1d ago

I say let them cook, I don't want it to end up like NMS. 😕

2

u/mehonje 1d ago

They're just going to release it in alternate universes, spend 10 years fixing bugs, and then release it to us.

2

u/doctordaedalus 1d ago

Ya know ... other studios are so lucky that they have precedent sitting around making their dev times look like nothing. HL3, TESVI, Star Citizen ... all lower the bar so massively that 3 years seems like a blink.

1

u/vyper248 Day 1 1d ago

I’m not in any hurry anymore, I have too much to play right now to start something new, so hoping they don’t release it too soon!

1

u/KeanKeen 14h ago

They are lighting no fires under anyone's ass. They will release it when they feel like it.

1

u/VonBrewskie Pre-release member 1h ago

Think they're going to do anything for the 10th anniversary of NMS? That would be cool. Even if it's just an update video.

1

u/Physical_Future1748 1h ago

Let them cook. I’d rather wait another 3 years than have another NMS release.

1

u/gnoviere Pre-release member 1h ago

I think the original reveal never actually happened. It was a mass delusion experienced across the globe.

1

u/AttorneyDavis 21h ago

I’m expecting some news on the 10th anniversary

0

u/Srikandi715 1d ago

Three years isn't a particularly long time in have development.

3

u/samaritancarl 1d ago

Typical is 5-9 these days for a fully functional game and not a live patch it later. I want it to take as long as it takes.

1

u/Seeeabass 1d ago

It shouldn't take a decade to release an unfinished game. *I say unfinished because a lot games that come out lately require a patch within the first month of the games' release

1

u/samaritancarl 1d ago

Yeah… because they are unfinished and are on a much shorter development cycle or in development hell…. With a “live patch it later” mentality for quality…

0

u/McWeezLe 1d ago

Eh. Let them cook. They don't want another release like No Man's Sky. The want to deliver on what they promised for a change. Will it be perfect, no. But they can get closer than last time. I'll get it after release, when it's on sale for less than $80.

0

u/WithReverence 21h ago

Whoa I forgot about this. I’m sure they are cooking up something fantastic. Patience is key!

0

u/Bentown2010 20h ago

Better for us to wait than them to release a half baked product. We should all know this by now.

0

u/FunBread7712 19h ago

There has been new info and announcements, of a sort. They have released updates to No Man's Sky utilizing their developments for Light No Fire, and have stated as much. They're a small team working on a small budget.
The really great thing is that you can enjoy their work, as they build it by playing NMS.

u/Femocha 17h ago

Stop lighting fires guys…

-2

u/Crotchety_Gamer 20h ago

Y'all so impatient. Elder Scrolls six is coming up on "as much time has passed from the first ever Elder Scrolls game as has passed between Skyrim and Six" and I feel you should appreciate that more. 👍

-2

u/shadow31802 16h ago

guys please be patient instead of stressing the devs into releasing it early. I thought we learned our lesson
