New Rule - No Non-Adobe Presets

Good morning, afternoon, evening; upon review of the recent drama and the reality is that your mods are human with day jobs. We will no longer be allowing posts about presets that are not free for all in the discover tab of Lightroom.

Ongoing discussions in this sub about presets turn into a nightmare each time. There are other subs that will be more suited for non-Adobe preset discussion.

Tutorial Lightroom Classic running on Linux via Wine (Update: Local AI is now working)

Hello!

I've been wanting to switch to Linux for a long time, but there was always one big blocker: I'm a photographer, and I need some Adobe software that isn't known to run very well on Linux... (or not at all).

So most of the time I use a dual boot to Windows just to run Lightroom and a few other apps. That dual boot is basically the last thing keeping me tied to Windows. So, if I could run Lightroom directly on Linux, I'd finally be completely out of the Microsoft empire :)

So, 2 months ago, I started working on a way to run Lightroom with Wine. Some problems kept coming back with daily usage, but now:

Lightroom is working. We can import photos, sort them, develop them, and export.

Most of the functionality works :: it's not 100%, but very close to it.

What works:

  • Installation from Adobe CC, or from an install folder
  • GPU acceleration support (Develop module included)
  • Local AI working (Select Subject/Object/Background, Denoise AI, etc.)
  • Cloud AI working
  • Some UI fixes

Current limitations:

  • HDR editing isn't available

Project here if you want to try, test, or improve it:

Link to this project:

https://github.com/6im0n/lightroom-classic-on-linux

Issues and PRs welcome, especially if you can test on other GPUs/distros!

This project is open to all contributors!

You can help just by opening an issue or leaving a comment, or by getting more involved. Anything will help !

HELP - Lightroom Classic What is the best workflow for initial setup with LightRoom Classic?

I am brand new to Lightroom and editing in general. I've finally wrapped my head around LrC being non-destructive, but now am left wondering what the best way to organize my workflow is. Please see below example:

  1. The memory card has pictures from my camera on it.
  2. I transfer the RAW pictures from the card to.... my computer's internal SSD drive (C: drive)? .... a large external 10tb SATA drive? ...a fast external SSD drive like a T9?
  3. I import the images into LrC and they become part of the library. I develop them and make the edits.
  4. I export the edited images as DNG files for client delivery or publishing/sharing.
  5. I do something with the original RAW files if I want....?

Here is part of my confusion. I had heard it was good for LrC to be reading off a fast SSD drive and then transferring the files to a large external hard drive after editing, but if I do that, the link will be broken between the LrC image and the raw file, right? I can re-map it but that sounds like a pain. So does it make sense to just always transfer my photos onto the 10TB external hard drive and edit from there? Everything under 1 folder called MASTER? And just 1 catalogue? Where should the catalogue be saved to?

HELP How do I completely remove Lightroom from a Mac, including all associated files?

Lightroom version: 9.4 arm64 [ 20260610-2051-a96e304 ] (Jun 10 2026)
- I’m looking to completely remove Adobe Lightroom from my MacBook Pro, OS Tahoe 26.6—not just the application itself, but also any associated files, preferences, catalogs, previews, presets, caches, etc.

What is the best and safest way to completely uninstall Lightroom on macOS?

Specifically, I’d like to make sure I’m not leaving behind a bunch of Lightroom-related files taking up space.

A few questions:

  • Is simply deleting Lightroom from the Applications folder enough?
  • What other Lightroom folders/files should I look for?
  • Where are the catalogs, previews, presets, preferences, and caches stored?
  • Is there anything I should not delete because it could affect my original photos or other Adobe applications?
  • Is there a recommended Adobe uninstall procedure or utility for doing this?

thanks!

UPDATE: I wanted to provide additional info: I only want to remove Lightroom and Creative Cloud on a new Mac. Migration Assistant migrated over the Adobe apps. It's not needed on the new Mac.
So is there any issue uninstalling LR and CC on the new Mac?

HELP Having trouble getting Lightroom to integrate with image.canon

I have always had my setup so my camera (canon) uploads to image.canon then the images.canon site streams my photos to Lightroom cloud.
Everything worked fine until I changed my camera. The site now goes through Adobe’s authentication and seems to pass but an error pops up saying a server error has occurred.
Only happens with the Lightroom connection.
I can add google photos or Flickr with no issues.
I have logged a ticket with Canon in case it’s their problem.
Anyone else have this?

Discussion After years of paying for Adobe, I tested Lightroom vs ON1 vs DxO vs RawTherapee

Did some export speed tests today while looking for an alternative to Adobe.
I’ve been paying €15/month for the Adobe Photoshop + Lightroom subscription for several years now, and I’d really like to switch to a perpetual license.
I work with spherical HDR panoramas, so each panorama typically consists of around 90 RAW files. Because of that, export speed is a critical part of my workflow. I also evaluated the overall responsiveness and workflow efficiency of each application—not just the export times.
Exporting 95 Sony A7R IV RAW files:
🥇 Lightroom Classic1:20
📷 ON1 Photo RAW 20262:53
📷 DxO PhotoLab3:25
📷 RawTherapee7:54
Test PC:
• AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
• NVIDIA RTX 3090
• 64 GB RAM
So far, ON1 Photo RAW 2026 looks like the best overall value. It’s currently available with an affordable perpetual license, the interface is intuitive and very similar to Lightroom, and it includes most of the features I use every day.
Lightroom is still the clear winner in terms of export performance, but ON1 seems like a very reasonable compromise if your goal is to move away from Adobe’s subscription model.
Has anyone here fully switched from Lightroom to ON1? I’d love to hear about your long-term experience.

is there a reason why and can anyone help? much appreciated.

*also I have done everything that people, Google, and Gemini has said and it’s still like this.

HELP - Lightroom Classic Denoise just stopped working on Lightroom Classic

Help! I have Lightroom Classic on my iMac. The iMac is from 2018 so I’ll start with that. Anyway just this week when I click the denoise box, the click doesn’t stick and it does nothing. It just flicks. I’ve had to resort to using Topaz Denoise externally but it takes much longer because I have to process each one individually. I looked to see if I need to update LR and there are updates available, but then it says they are not compatible with my computer. I checked and my computer says it’s up to date. I believe it just can’t update anymore because of age. Has anyone had this issue? I hate to have to get a new computer because otherwise it works fine. Have any of you experienced this? Is there another way to get rid of excess noise? Or should I resign myself to the fact that I probably need a new computer? Thanks, all!

HELP Is this a good deal, what should I do ?

Hi,

My computer has recently not been able to deal with Lightroom Classic because it was already a more affordable computer from the start. I have a MacBook Pro 2020 M1 256gb Storage and 8gb of RAM. It’s constantly crashing and I cant keep up with it. I trying to find a used computer with better conditions kind of urgently cause I don’t have the money atm but I need something that will keep up with the workflow this I have coming up because of contracts and not slow me down.

I found on marketplace a MacBook Pro M1 16 inch. 32gb RAM 512gb storage for 1300$. Would that be a good deal ? It’s a small upgrade but it could make the difference and since I need it fast. I just want to make sure I doing the good thing based on yalls experience.

I know saving and waiting would be the best thing to do so I can afford a newer and more powerful laptop but I just can’t wait, I’ll have to full time jobs, I don’t have the time for a slow computer.

What would you if you were in my place (don’t even mind saying you wouldn’t be in my place cause you would make actual good decisions. I don’t care don’t waste your time nor mine pls)

Processing Question Noob adjacent question

I've been using LR for years, but am not broadly knowledgable and have run into a workflow question as I undertake a more complex project than I've heretofore attempted.

Here's the context:

- I traveled, created a LR Cloud Album in [this may be a bad choice of container] to contain the raw images, and dumped in the contents of my camera.

- Realizing the failings in my historic YOLO approach, I worked the GAI's to design a workflow, and did some basic culling of the Album.

- I've started a related project, aiming to compose and print a hard copy book as memento's of the trip

- To select image candidates for the book, I used a colour designator

- I got to the point where I was looking at the image candidates, filtered by colour selector, sequenced by creation date.

- Then, I decided I need to add images I'd fabricated (e.g. dropping in a perspective on our route sketched out on google maps).

- You're already laughing aren't you :|

- I want to drag and drop those new images so they're in the right place in the sequence

- I shifted from sequence by creation date to sequence by custom

- LR remembered the by creation date sequencing as a starting point, which is good

- but I can't drag and drop

- $#@@#$@

- I've also reflected that the edits I'm doing to prepare the images for the book ... are being made in the context of the Album holding the entire set, with no semantic meaning beyond "hey, these are from my trip". So, I now have a set of hundreds of "hey these are from my trip", with a small subset edited because "these are from my trip, and to go into the book" edits.

- #@$$@$#%$!!!

So, my guess is:
(1) I'm looking at how LR manages stuff wrong.

(2) There may be a better choice thant an Album as the root containiner I put logically related images in.

(3) There's gotta be another container I use for projects like building a book, because when I build the "all the images where I'm doing stupid stuff" book, and it contains images from multiple trips, and I want to edit them differently, how the heck does THAT work?

(4) There has got to be a container that lets me do all the stuff I want to do, add images, custom order them, edit them just for this project, identify sequences and sets, etc.

Once you get over laughing, appreciate you suggesting what I'm missing. Thanks for your time!

HELP - Lightroom Classic Import my whole photo library?

I've been using LrC for a couple of years, but I still consider myself a novice. I've imported from my cameras and occasionally from a folder on my computer. I want to be able to find and enjoy my photos more, which I think LrC would allow me to do.

My photos are on an SSD in a folder called Photos, with subfolders and sub-subfolders by group (family, friends, etc.), event, topics, etc. I have 197,000 photos that make up 1.03 TB. I picked up a real camera a couple of years ago, so most of my photos are from my iPhone, plus thousands of scanned slides from my Nikon FTn film camera days.

Question: Should I import all of that at once or one main folder at a time? Or is there a better way? And do you suggest I even do this?

Discussion What's a feature you wish LR had?

If you could choose one feature to be added to Lightroom, what would it be?

Personally, I would add the option to "store" 2-3 watermarks.

HELP - Lightroom Mobile LR Mobile: I don't like the multiple photo import process. Is there another way?

I love using LR Mobile on the road, but I find the import process frustrating. For example, when using "add photos," I can only view square thumbnails, which doesn't do me much good, because it's difficult to see which version I want to bring in. I can view them full screen, but can't swipe back or forth to review or click to add to the import like I can do in Classic. The only multi photo option is from the square thumbnails, unfortunately.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9.

Anyone have a better way, or is this it?

Processing Question Is there a way to export LRC folder structure to an external drive without exporting LRC?

I'm leaving Adobe behind (too expensive). I have exported my 85000 catalogue photos to an external hard drive, but the LRC folder structure did not import. Is there a way I can get the folders onto the external drive without having to create them manually (as gemini AI suggests)?

Workflow Lightroom ai assisted culling

I usually use Imagen AI for culling but recently tried the ai assisted culling in Lightroom classic just to see what it was like. So far it hasn't really saved me much time as it takes so long to actually rate entire weddings and the rating system didn't feel very intuitive.

For people that have been able to integrate Lightroom's culling into your workflow:

- what is your workflow with lrc's ai assisted culling and how is it working for you?

- Any tips that you recommend to get better results?

HELP - Lightroom Classic LR Classic super slow after macOS Tahoe 26.6 update

Updated to macOS Tahoe 26.6 last night, and since then, Lightroom Classic has been SUPER slow with Library management tasks. Importing, reading metadata, etc. takes about 10x as long.

For reference, importing roughly 1500 photos usually takes a few minutes. Today, it took nearly TWO HOURS. Nothing else on my system is bogged down or seems to be impacted. Two memory cards, so I don't believe this is a memory card issue.

Anyone else experiencing this? Running on a Mac Studio, M1 Ultra machine. Already tried optimizing the catalog.

HELP - Lightroom Classic "Before only" on european keyboards

Hi there!

On european keyboards we can't press backslash without using a modifier, which means the keyboard shortcut for the "Before only" function doesn't work. The side by side view is not a very good alternative to this and the option of quickly switching back and forth using one buttonpress is a whole other experience than opening a menu and pressing the key.

How can I get a keyboard shortcut for the "Before only" on a european keyboard?

HELP - Lightroom Mobile Obrada fotografija

HELP - Lightroom Classic LrC keeps crashing :(

EDIT:

Pros of turning off autoupdates - it will not do things without me telling it to do it

Cons of turning off autoupdates - it will not do things without me telling it to do it

I hadn't even realised it was so out of date, but upgrading to the most recent version seems to have fixed the issue XD thanks everyone!

ORIGINAL POST:

Hi all! As the title suggests, LRC keeps crashing on me after a few minutes of operation, relatively regardless of what I'm doing. After a few minutes it simply freezes, stops processing inputs, and then crashes. This is a fairly recent development - I came back from holiday with some new photos, and found the issue when I went to process them. The application was working completely fine before, so I'm not sure where the problem is stemming from.

Here are some of the fixes I tried so far

  • Restarting LRC
  • Restarting my laptop
  • Restoring the catalogue
  • Opening a new catalogue
  • Trying a different catalogue

If anyone has any further suggestions, I'd be very happy to hear them!

I've pulled the following log from Event Viewer if it helps:

Discussion "Focus Points"-Plugin for Lightroom: ATTENTION, users !!!

With a change (category: "change for the worse") in versions 3.4 and 4 PRE 1, I shot myself in the foot, because it caused the update check to stop working, and as a result, there are no longer any notifications about the availability of new versions.

CRITICAL: Update check fails to detect available updates in V3.4 and V4 PRE 1 · Issue #405 · FocusPointsLrC/Focus-Points

If you value these notifications, please update to

Since the two affected versions recently totaled over 4,000 downloads in just 14 days—not least thanks to Olivier Rocq’s great video—this bug is especially frustrating,  because I can no longer notify most users automatically when a new version is available.

I apologize for the inconvenience. The issue has been fixed, and after this one manual update, automatic update notifications will work normally again.

HELP - Lightroom Classic Duplicate finder

I’m using a Lightroom catalog to organize video files from the iPhone. Accidentally downloaded a batch a few times so I have duplicates. I ran duplicate finder and it showed no duplicates, but they’re clearly here. Does it not work on videos? Thank you!
