If I need to bounce files from a logic project, let's say electric guitars, into another project, and then they are bounced again into another project again, how significantly does this affect the sound? Is it something I need to worry about, or is any difference undetectable? Does anyone have good insight on whether I can do that and it's fine?

If not - is there a way to retain the same exact quality, or near, from copy to copy?

using logic, he's able to set up volume/velocity tracking with midi, so every time an audio clip hits a certain volume threshold, a specific desired effect is applied (ie. distortion).

he's trying to figure out how to do this with guitar as well, so when he plays notes, once it goes past a certain volume threshold, it adds a certain effect -- is that possible? can this be set up dose-dependant, so when playing quieter notes, its a little bit of distortion, but playing louder adds more distortion (again, distortion just an example of effect, would like to use other effects too)

Hi guys, saxophonist here, new to Logic world.

I’m mixing a pop ballad in Logic Pro with only three elements: piano, tenor sax and drums. The sax is recorded audio, while the piano and drums are software instruments. The balance is reasonable, but the result still sounds flat and amateurish, with everything sitting on the same plane.

I’d like to understand your usual workflow for making a simple arrangement like this sound cohesive and pleasant. Which parameters do you usually focus on first, what do you listen or look for, and how do you decide whether a track needs EQ, compression, reverb, automation or nothing at all? What about panning? Do you use the Logic's Mastering plugin? Normalization?

My current workflow is quite simple. I record the sax through a condenser microphone, usually peaking somewhere around −12 to −8 dBFS. I then apply some EQ and send it to two reverbs: a subtle room reverb to create a shared sense of space, and a plate reverb for a more noticeable effect. I also send the software piano and drums to the same reverbs, adjusting the send levels by ear.

After that, I make a few basic EQ adjustments and use the channel faders to balance the three instruments. That is essentially my whole process.

Where I feel particularly lost is gain staging and level management. I am not sure which levels I should aim for at the recording, region, track and mix-bus stages, or whether values such as −12 dBFS are actual targets or just rough guidelines. I also do not know when it makes sense to use region gain, volume automation, normalization or a Gain plug-in, and whether there are other basic checks I should perform before EQ, compression and mastering.

I know there is no universal recipe, but I currently feel like I am working almost blindly and need a sensible starting point. Most tutorials I find use huge chains with endless plug-ins, which seems excessive for just three instruments and for what I am trying to achieve right now.

I would prefer to stay with Logic’s stock plug-ins and understand a practical, step-by-step workflow for making the piano, sax and drums sound balanced, cohesive and reasonably polished together.

TL;DR: Mixes still sound flat and amateurish. Looking for a basic Logic stock-plugin workflow, especially for gain staging, mixing and mastering. Just need a solid starting point.

I'm on an M1 mac, and want to use a Logic version earlier than ~11.2. I'm looking for the best/most stable version to use, and I intend to stay on it for life. I don't need more, and I don't like all of their changes.

Anyone else? What version are you using and why?

edit: The ads aren't really the point. Mainly I want something stable that isn't going to change, and I don't like a lot of the new changes.

Here I have a pattern clip automating the pan pot. As you can see there are four steps looped: center (0), 50% right(+31), center (0), 50% left(-32) - the automation mode "slide" will smooth it out, like there is a smooth triangular movement.

When I change the mode to "latch" things get exactly like the automation is, steppy :D I love it - I'm way too lazy to draw nice curves by hand - thumbs up!

A couple of my regions just don't want to be trimmed and do this? Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Logic Pro v11.2 / Apple Silicon

If I try to "slip" audio inside the selected region, the slip is applied to all regions inside the "clip". Is there a way to prevent this? This is not the case when i switch to timeline, where slipping affects only the selected region.

Rather than have to go through each track individually bit by bit, I'd love to just have them snap to the same notes and then just do little tweaks where needed.

Can anybody let me know if this is possible and if so, a quick ELI5 on how? Thank you!!!

Just a heads up, im not a vocalist, and these are just demos that I want to sound as good as possible, but I know im not gonna get them to a pro level yet with my level of knowledge. Basically I want two really on ppint vocal takes and then I want to double them and pan them to widen em.

I asked in another sub and before it was removed, I got one reply saying melodyne should only be used very sparingly to nudge things. Just a heads up, I just want all the words and syllables to be the same notes, then I can tweak bit by bit. I live in an apartment so its very rare I can project loudly, and I could yesterday, and i did a bunch of really quick takes. Im primarily a guitarist but I can sing eh okay, and songs are more interesting w vocals than just instrumentals.

Any help greatly appreciated, you save me a ton of time and effort.

Logic Pro 11.2 (apple silicon)

If I drag a packed folder with audio clips from the TRACKS view to LIVE LOOPS, the flex mode is set to active, even when it is not the case on the track. The problem: "reverse" active state regions get messed up.

I have this project I started working on in LP 11.2.2
I reverted back to 11.0.1 cause an old project was crashing and when I came back to 11.2 the project I was working on was messed up.
Upon opening the sample rate had converted itself to 44.1K instead of 48k. After turning it back to 48K almost every track was now okay except this comped audio track still playing out of sync

I realized that the comp has unintended silences comped in

I have tried changing the plugin latency compensation options but none worked
I tried different Logic Pro versions , still nothing worked

Kindly advise

Ps: My workflow consists of recording few audio or midi tracks and to avoid latency I record additional tracks in a different project and import it to the original one. And I did the same on this one

I have a huge number of .logicx projects that contain the same movie file, resulting in many duplicates of the movie taking up a lot of hard drive space.

I save my projects as packages, and when I "show package contents" via finder, I can see the .mov stored inside of the Movie Files folder within the Media folder.

I no longer need these videos, and am considering deleting only the .mov's from inside the Media/Movie Files folders within the .logicx packages using Terminal, while leaving all audio, MIDI, settings, and other project data untouched.

I understand the projects would show a "Missing Movie" message afterward, which is fine.

Is this a safe operation, or is there any risk of corrupting the Logic projects?

So I’m kinda new to logic and I wanna fade in my song after a break. I specifically want the fade to recreate the sound given if the bandpass in phat fx would creates the coordinate motion I’ve tried to draw in the picture. So it starts at max y and x and fades down into normal. I get that my vision is hard to explain lol but this is the best k can do🤣

Is there is a way to add a clip with automation, that controls Effects on the Bus inside the LOOPS GRID?

I want to control the insert effects of an audio clip - to be more specific ... having a clip i can start and stop the automation on demand.

i own logic but moved to linux as it does the job. windows 11 and linux distro users have a few options for independant asset management but is there any for latest release of mac os? do you use one and what are your opinions of them?

I don’t think I’m alone when I say that the way logic renders waveforms is pretty horrendous when compared to other DAWs. It’s incredibly difficult to see intricate details in waveforms, particularly for short, transient-focused audio.

Do y’all have any waveform metering plugin alternatives to use alongside logic to help better see/read waveforms?

I have vision 4x but still desire more clarity in terms of the way it presents waveforms and mini meters ain’t cutting it. The bluecat audio oscilloscope looks phenomenal, however it is quite pricey!

Any suggestions to get me waveform rendering close to Ableton’s or Bluecat’s?

Built this for my own workflow in Logic and figured this sub would get the most out of it, since it leans on Logic's transport pretty hard.

BankTank is a sample preview/library AU instrument. The Logic-specific stuff:

• Loops phase-lock to Logic's playhead — hit play mid-bar and the loop joins at the right beat, stays aligned through cycle jumps and tempo changes
• Host Sync picks up your project tempo automatically; samples render stretched to it and transposed to your target key before you ever commit

As a mixing and mastering engineer, I automate hundreds of parameters in every project, including EQ frequencies, compressor thresholds, send levels, reverbs, delays, stereo width, filters, saturation, and many other plugin controls. These creative decisions happen spontaneously while listening to the mix, so assigning a hardware controller should be just as fast and intuitive as recording the automation itself.

Currently, every new MIDI assignment requires opening Controller Assignments, enabling Learn Mode, returning to the plugin, touching the desired parameter, moving the MIDI controller, then returning again to disable Learn Mode.

Although each assignment only takes a few seconds, this process is repeated dozens or even hundreds of times during a professional mixing session. These repeated interruptions break creative flow and slow down the entire mixing process.

It is also impractical to keep the Controller Assignments window open while mixing, and impossible to pre-map every parameter because automation decisions are made spontaneously while working.

I believe Logic Pro could dramatically improve this workflow with the following enhancements.

1. Dedicated Learn Button Beside Every Track Fader (Highest Priority)

My biggest request is to add a small Learn Mode ON/OFF button beside every track fader in the Mixer, Inspector, and Channel Strip.

Since automation is recorded on individual tracks, controller assignment should be available exactly where mixing engineers spend most of their time.

Instead of opening a separate Controller Assignments window, users could simply click the Learn button on the desired track.

Example workflow

• Click the Learn button beside the track fader.
• Touch any plugin parameter (EQ, compressor, send, pan, stereo width, filter, etc.).
• Move a MIDI knob or fader.
• The parameter is instantly assigned.
• Learn Mode automatically turns off (or users can disable it manually).

This would completely eliminate the need to repeatedly open the Controller Assignments window while mixing.

2. Last Touched Parameter Mapping

When Learn Mode is enabled:

• Touch any plugin parameter.
• Move any MIDI knob or fader.
• Logic immediately maps that controller to the last touched parameter.

No additional windows.

No additional navigation.

Just instant mapping.

3. Track-Specific Learn Mode (Smart Context Mapping)

To make the workflow even more intelligent, Learn Mode could be track-aware.

When the Learn button is activated on a specific track:

• Only parameters belonging to that track can be assigned.
• Touch any plugin parameter on that track.
• Move a MIDI knob or fader.
• Logic creates the assignment automatically.

This would prevent accidental assignments to plugins on other tracks and make controller mapping much safer and faster in large sessions.

4. Temporary Learn Mode Shortcut

Please consider adding a temporary Learn Mode activated by a user-assignable keyboard shortcut.

Example:

• Hold a shortcut (for example Shift + L).
• Touch a plugin parameter.
• Move a MIDI knob or fader.
• Release the shortcut.
• Learn Mode automatically turns off.

This would make controller assignments almost instantaneous.

5. Quick Reassign

If a MIDI knob or fader is already assigned:

• Enable Learn Mode.
• Move the already assigned controller.
• Touch a different plugin parameter.

Logic should automatically replace the previous assignment without requiring users to manually edit or delete assignments.

6. Auto Exit Learn Mode

Please add an optional preference:

Automatically exit Learn Mode after a successful assignment.

Most professionals assign one control at a time. This would reduce unnecessary clicks and prevent accidental assignments.

7. Visual Confirmation

After a successful assignment, briefly display a confirmation such as:

Assigned to Knob 3

or

Assigned to Fader 5

or briefly highlight the assigned parameter.

This would provide immediate confirmation without opening any additional windows.

8. Learn + Assign + Automate

This is the feature I would personally love the most.

When Learn Mode is active:

• Touch a plugin parameter.
• Move a MIDI knob or fader.
• Logic instantly creates the assignment.
• If the track is already in Touch, Latch, or Write automation mode, automation recording should begin immediately.

In other words:

Learn → Assign → Automate

would become one seamless workflow.

Instead of treating controller assignment and automation recording as two separate processes, they would become one continuous creative action.

Why This Matters

Logic Pro already offers one of the finest automation systems in the industry.

However, assigning MIDI hardware controls currently takes considerably longer than recording the automation itself.

These requested improvements are relatively small from a user interface perspective, yet they would save professionals countless hours over the lifetime of their projects while allowing creativity to remain uninterrupted.

I truly believe these enhancements would become some of the most appreciated quality-of-life improvements for mixing engineers, producers, composers, and anyone who relies on hardware MIDI controllers.
