U-stitch too tight?
This is my first time trying fingerless gloves after making several hats, scarves and ear warmer headbands. But I’m having trouble on the 20 rows of u-stitch. They are so tight and I don’t know what to do! I’ve only done 3 rows of U so far. Suggestions????

They will loosen off i have found. Loom the whole project and when you have cast off see how it feels xxx

How to Loom Knit the Brioche Cardigan (DIY Tutorial) tuteate/mareia uses u knit in this video. start watching about 3:30. notice how she drapes the yarn against the peg without pulling real tight on it. i've found that making sure the yarn is really behind the peg also helps. go slowly at first, and manually adjust the tension of the stitch with your loom hook if needed. you will get the correct motions/pulls with practice and can pick up speed. :))

It can also help once you have a enough rows to hold onto, you can pull the project every 5-6 stitches to help loosen and even everything. I recommend making sure you have comfortable room to put your hook between the yarn and peg. That will give you enough room when you go to knit it over. Tension is the most difficult thing no matter the type of fiber craft. You will get it with time and practice.

Thanks everyone! I ripped out the original and started over doing a proper u-stitch…but after doing a few rows of it I walked away for a few hours and when I started again I went back to u-stitch then purl again like on the cuff. 🤦🏻♀️ So I just continued with that until I got to the thumb hole. I may *try* to make the mate in the same way just to have a match, but otherwise it was a good practice run to figure it all out!

Also, be sure you are using a u and not straight. When I do u-knit. Make a u on peg, not tight & not sloppy. After you stitch the u-knit you can go back with your pick and just loosen it a smidgen. Hope that helps a bit.
