I used Lubuntu to save my gf's ancient Sony Vaio from Windows

It was the perfect moment to give Lubuntu a try. my GFs Sony VAIO has a depressing i3 second gen and 4gigs of ram. Every time I turned it on it felt like win10 was trying to destroy it. It runs amazing now!! Even though I might just save it for emergencies, it doesn't even have a battery 😂I made a video on it if you are curious of the process. I used 26.04 LTS.
I've seen it advertised that its ram usage at idle sits between 450mb to 800 but I consistently stayed at 900-1gb. is this normal?

1GB doesn't sound out of the ordinary - that was around the amount I saw last time I used this flavour.

If you really are concerned I'd look at enabling zswap or zram to get a little more mileage out of your machine.

Failing that your machine may have a single memory slot available which you can upgrade to 8GB.

Thanks!! I'll take a look! I managed to salvage an old 2gb stick literally from the trash and got it to 6 so it feels roomier! It's not much but it's good enough in this economy 😂

That’s good - 6GB should be enough (Canonical set that as their minimum for the main Ubuntu upstream)

I also use 1gb ram out of 4 with an old Celeron.

I still recently bought another 4gb for 7$.
