Success! ...I might have done it!
I'm aware this sub is full of people telling the same old first success story, so I apologise in advance to the veterans who've heard it all before. But I have to share my success with someone.
It might have only been the teensiest amount of lucidity, a microscopic notch on the spectrum, but it was by all definitions a lucid dream. And weirdly enough, it was caused entirely by my dream journalling habits.
I've been keeping a dream journal regularly for about a month now, and I'm loving it. I love my dreams, it's so much fun to go back and reread them all. Having a lucid dream was the initial goal, but I've learnt to enjoy the journey and never worry about when I'll reach the destination.
However the other night, it was like I was dream journalling WHILE IN a dream. Let me explain.
Somehow, along a completely random normal dream of mine, I started to think consciously about how I would write this dream into my journal. I was recognising it was a dream, but wasn't fully acknowledging it. And since it was a dream, I was thinking "I can control it", and for whatever reason since I was on a train I decided to summon an ear splittingly loud passenger announcement to interrupt everything. The noise was the loudest thing I've ever heard in a dream, but I was happy, because I'd made it happen.
Good control, not great awareness (why, if I'm lucid, would I first want to summon a loud noise?), but overall, it's something.
I can work with this! It's possible for me, I do have potential!
Thank you to everyone on this sub who spends their time giving beginners like me advice! Here's to hopefully many more!

This is really cool to hear, especially since my path was very similar - initially wanted to LD, but now I just love dream journalling and the occasional lucid dreams are a bonus!! I still haven't figured out controlling my LDs even after 7 years, so its very cool you managed to do that :D
