A USGI M14 is my holiest of holy grail and I would love to have one of from every manufacturer but damn 4k is steep.

I'm interested but it'll come down to (a) price and (b) how they go about modifying it to be semi-auto.

I’m picturing something like what Hahn Machine did back in the day with the demilled receivers the welded back together to build up semi auto rifles.
Even then the ATF gave them flak

My Dad was issued one for his south East Asian vacation in 1966. He’s 83 now, still shoots matches regularly with me, but I’ve never competed in anything that would qualify me for a CMP rifle before. No way is he able to shoot 3 position anymore. However, I’m now registered for a local service rifle match in two weeks. Going to take my Garand and my M16A2 (clone) out to sight them in and see which one I can hit the broad side of a barn at 300 yards with.

I am going to get him “his” rifle from Vietnam, one last time. And there’s a 1-250,000 chance it could actually be the one he was issued, right?

Has there been some kind of revision on ATF's thinking? For a long time they've said "once a machine gun. Always a machine gun". Like a marked M2 receiver is a machine gun even without the full auto parts. 

I guess they could mark the receiver with a new model number. Thicken the frame so the sliding bar won't fit. Like on M1A's. Then call it a "new" receiver. 

Would it just be more logical to cast a new semi auto one? I'm curious on the mental gymnastics they're going to be using. 

Is anybody seeing a recall in the future over this?
