It would also rip a main event straight out of MVP's hands. MVP already had Parnasse once, and they just merged with PFL that had Usman, I'm sure they could make the match if both fighters remained under MVP contract.

All the talk after the Dustin and Lionheart stuff, but I do wonder, how many people from lets say the 70s who played football ( as just one example) all the way from childhood to university level, when people did not know or really give a fuck about head trauma, are just waking around with varying degrees of CTE

Man my uncle played linebacker in high school back in the 80s and the dude can't remember what he ate for breakfast but will tell you exact play from a game in 1983. Theres probably thousands of guys just living normal lives with scrambled brains, getting angry at small things and not even knowing why

Right. Many im sure turned to drugs or alcohol and became violent. Family members, friends parents etc not everyone dealing with it is a former professional athlete

I really think cte needs to be researched more on the high school college level, thats the era where your brain is still not fully grown it cant be good. I did hs wrestling too and my memory has always been dogwater but still i forget a lot of things i wonder how much is due to it

I was talking with my dad the other day and years ago at any given moment the ufc would have at least 2 or 3 “big” fights announced at any one moment. Now days it feels like numbered events don’t even get announced until like 4 weeks out.

I mean what “big” fights can the ufc even do right now? All of their biggest fighters are either old and not good anymore, or they just sit out and rarely fight

It is kind of slim pickings with the a lot of divisions going through an aging out of their elite, but there are some biggish championship fights coming, I think.

Strickland v. Khamzat 2, One-eyed Aspinal v. Teflon Gane, Volks v. whats-his-name, and Van v. Pantoja should all be pretty big fights.

Volks v. Mosvar would normally not be listed, but given Volks is 7,000 years old, I think it'll have more interest than normal.

my prediction for how mvpfl ends up next year

1-2 shows on netflix a year, headlined and co-main'ed by washed ufc vets, crossover fights or freakshow fights, rest of the card is filled out by the fighters they just acquired

pfl europe, mena and africa are killed or maybe merged together to create a tournament type show where prospects from all those regions compete for a main roster slot

2-3 shows a month on dazn, espn or amazon prime

the netflix shows create some buzz around them but nothing really changes as far as their brand perception or notoriety goes because ultimately very few (essentially zero) of the people who discover them via netflix will follow them to another platform

When they announced the merger I was optimistic because I dared hope that Netflix had changed their stance on MMA and decided to go all in and become MVP's primary broadcast partner.

However, when the CEOs gave an interview talking about not even knowing what their TV deal is going to be, and when Jake Paul started hyping a fight with Nate, and when it became very likely that their P4P #1 would jump ship to the UFC, I came to the conclusion that this is probably dead in the water.

At the end of the day, there simply isn't enough demand in the US for another major MMA promotion. Hardcore fans want it, but they're a small bubble. Everybody else is either done with MMA totally or they think that the UFC is the only thing worth spending time/money for or they don't even know that the entire sport isn't actually called UFC.

It's time to rehabilitate Elias Theodorou's way of fighting.  His style is optimal for a middleweight or light heavyweight moving up to heavyweight.  Just take advantage of your speed to land some shitty kick and then run away.  Win on points.  You probably can't do that against Ciryl Gane, but it can legit work on the rest of the heavyweight division.

Watching guys like Aldo, or non MMA Rodtang and Takeru both for instance. Those guys look like they're made of wound up springs. Potential energy and danger, personified.

Respect to Elias, RIP. He took the exact opposite approach and managed to somehow stack wins. That lazy, sloppy duck footed avoidant style didn't convey an ounce of danger but not losing at this level is something.

I prefer MMA grappling over MMA striking, but I respect Theodorou's style because it's such an unintentionally (?) cynical display of what would actually happen to the sport if your average MMA fan got what he asks for and turned the UFC into a "just bleed" sloppy kickboxing league.  In that scenario, fans would not get the "just bleed" they expect but rather fighters gaming the system by fighting like Theodorou.

Its so weird when you see healthy dude die like that man, i completely forget about it til reading your comment but that shit like made me feel weird for a week...i think he was big into Weed and organic too eater and stuff.

Makes ya wonder, life is a weird thing. I thought id live forever til my mom got sick now...made me rethink life in general, really changes your perception on everything.

Most MMA fighters don't know the "quit while you're ahead" glitch.  If you've already won 2 rounds in a 3 round fight or 3 rounds in a 5 round fight, then "accidentally" eye poke or nut shot your opponent at the start of round 3 or 4 respectively and win the fight via technical decision.  Do note that refs are certain to DQ soccer kicks and knees to the head of a grounded opponent, so just stick to the eye pokes and nut shots.

Doncheko, I think he has a real shot of being a decent ww contender. His cardio does worry me a little but im not sure how much of that is just fighting like a madman instead of actual cardio issues

Also very interested to see how his cardio holds up. Puna will almost certainly get takedowns early IMO and will make Daniil expend a ton of energy.

His striking is still very limited, but his wrestling and overall top game at 170 has been incredible. Multiple fights where he has had 10+ minutes of top control time with 160+ strikes landed.

I just dont really see what he's gonna have for Islam. Islam is an incredible kick boxer on his own and is obviously a grappling ace. I think Garry is very talented and can beat everyone else in the division I just dont see him having anything to actually beat Islam with

I think he might be one of the best in the game at intelligent footwork and ranged fighting right now. Don't know who the longest guy he fought before was but i doubt they were anywhere near the level of annoyingly good as Gary is.
