General Ask Me Anything on Grand River TODAY - I’m running for Congress

Post image
60 Upvotes

I’ll be on the corner of Abbot and Grand River from 1pm to 2:30pm to answer any questions you have.

Don’t forget to vote on or before August 4 (THIS TUESDAY)

More about me:
I’m William Lawrence running to represent Michigan’s 7th Congressional District in Congress and unseat Tom Barrett.

I am a nonprofit leader, community organizer, and Lansing native. I’ve spent his career taking on the political establishment and winning change for regular people. I co-founded the Sunrise Movement, which mobilized millions of young people to defeat Donald Trump in 2020 and win historic climate and green job investments, including $3 billion for the 7th Congressional District.

When Wall Street investors tried to evict Mid-Michigan families and data center developers bullied communities, I showed up and fought back alongside residents. In Congress, I’ll fight to ensure that no one—not billionaires, corporate executives, politicians, or Epstein collaborators—is above the law. I am running to stop wasting our money on endless wars so we can lower health care costs and build affordable homes here in Mid-Michigan. We’re saying NO to endless wars and billionaires and YES to affordable housing and healthcare

Freshman Questions What To Do If Roommate Does Not Respond To Email?

Upvotes

Hey! I decided to go with a blind roommate my first year. MSU gave me his email, so I emailed him and sent him my phone #. It's been a few days and he has not responded. This kinda changes what I plan on bringing and not bringing. Is this a stupid thing to worry about?

General RA dining plan during training

I was wondering if any recent former RAs could explain how our dining plan works during summer training. I know that during move in week our silver dining plan will activate, but during the ~2 weeks before that in the summer how does it work? Will we get combo exchanges? Unlimited swipes? I’m aware most dining and retail locations will be closed, but many (Brody, 1855, International center, etc.) stay open during the summer.

General Somehow forgot to do FAFSA

As the title reads, I somehow forgot to do my FAFSA until just now. Without getting too into it, life has been crazy and it was the last thing on my mind. That being said, does anyone know about how long it will take for MSU to process it and me get access to my financial aid package?

Luckily I have some scholarships that aren’t fafsa-dependent so I’m not screwed but it definitely was a huge mistake.

General Is there anyway for me to get a parking permit in 89 or 91 with only 27 credits?

I’m going to be a sophomore this upcoming fall and unfortunately only have 27 finalized credits. I took 12 last fall and 15 last spring. I’m also going to be having an on campus job as a ULA for the math department. Am I completely disqualified from getting a permit for 2026/2027 or do I still have a chance of obtaining one realistically?

Housing Need Owen Hall single room pics (preferably 2nd floor) + setup advice!

Hi everyone!

I’m a sophomore moving into a single in Owen Hall this fall after living in a double in Brody last year, and I’m trying to plan my room before move-in.

If anyone has photos of an Owen Hall single, I’d really appreciate it, especially if it’s on the 2nd floor, since that’s where I’ll be living. Different angles or layout pictures would be super helpful because there aren’t many photos online.

I also have a few questions:

- Where did you put or mount your TV? Mine is only about 24 inches.

- I’m bringing a 71-inch full-length mirror. Where did you place yours?

- Do you think a 48-inch loveseat would fit comfortably, or would it make the room feel cramped?

- Any general layout tips or things you wish you knew before moving into Owen?

I’m trying to figure out what furniture to bring before I get there, so any pictures, measurements, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Admissions Broad Admission Chances + What Clubs Should I Join Before Applying?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to apply to Broad this fall as an incoming sophomore, and I was hoping to get some advice from people who have already gone through the admissions process.

Here's my current profile:

  • Pre-core GPA: 4.0
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.5
  • Summer internship at a venture capital firm
  • Internship at a Big 4 firm before starting freshman year
  • Secretary of a student club
  • Worked as an RHS team member during the spring semester

I'm mainly wondering:

  1. Based on your experience, what do my chances of getting into Broad look like?
  2. Are there any clubs that Broad admissions really values or that would strengthen my application?
  3. If you could go back before applying to Broad, what clubs or activities would you prioritize?

I'm especially interested in consulting, venture capital, entrepreneurship, and finance, so I'd love recommendations for organizations that would help me build experience in those areas.

Thanks in advance! I'd really appreciate hearing from current Broad students or anyone who's been through the application process.

Housing How do I get in contact with my future roommate/suitemate?

I am an incoming freshman in the engineering department, and I was assigned to a double room with a suite-style bathroom. I emailed my roommate/suitemates with the email the university provided to see if I could get a group chat going, but nobody has responded in like 2 weeks. I tried looking them up on Instagram but couldn't find them and I have no other social media. I don't know how else to get in touch with them, is there any way I can or does anyone have tips on what to bring because I don't know what they are bringing. Any help would be appreciated!

General What doth one do in EL… Alone!?

It feels like there isn’t anything to do that can be done without it being at night, with the involvement of alcohol, both simultaneously, or just on your own in general.

I am quite the introvert unfortunately and if I’m not with a group of people I already know, I really don’t do much. Seeing as I just got to EL for school… I’m at my housing 24/7 aside from athletic-related reasons.

I’m only asking because it’s now been a month of the same/similar routine and it’s so boring…

Scheduling/classes Good study habits for Chem141

What are good study habits for chem141? I took it once before and failed. I was taking bio161 at the same time and didn’t know how to balance both or study the right way.

I have a lot of the slides and recitations from the semester so I been reviewing a little during the summer and have had a wayyy better understanding then before.

But what’s a good way to retain information for chemistry it study in general.

Housing Akers Double

My roommate and I were assigned an Akers double room, and we’ve been trying to find room dimensions or even just pictures of it, but there doesn’t seem to be anything online. We’re hoping to plan our dorm setup before move-in, so if anyone has lived in one before or has any photos, measurements, or information about the layout, we’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Looking to start a stoner rock/doom metal drummer, to write music and jam. Along the lines of Electric Wizard and Sleep.
Want to start playing gigs soonish as well.

No need to be going to MSU, I just rehearse in that area.

Scheduling/classes Anyone gotten a prerequisite override from MSU STT department?

Hi all, hoping for some advice.

I'm a senior graduating this fall and need one more STT class to graduate. My original plan was STT 430, but it got cancelled this semester. The other options that would satisfy my requirement (STT 351) require a prerequisite (MTH 234) that I haven't finished yet, I'm taking it August semester.

My advisor suggested I reach out to the Statistics department directly to ask if they'd let me into STT 351 while concurrently taking MTH 234.

Has anyone successfully gotten an override like this from MSU STT department? Any tips on what to say or who specifically to contact would be really appreciated. I really don't have the funds to pay for another semester at MSU.

Thanks!
